4/5 of those are because of Christianity. So that's not even including the other major beliefs of the last thousand years, and completely excludes the polytheistic beliefs from 2000+ years ago.

Esplain to me how 4/5 of those are because of Christianity? Hitler didn't kill Jews because of Christianity, he killed them because he thought they and other groups of people were sub-human.
I see nothing wrong with practicing science and having beliefs.
It is unhelpful and uneducated.
It is unscientific and a thing that keeps us from progressing.
It makes people narrow minded and unquestioning, it restricts people from learning.
Think about what you are saying, you are basically denoting that it is wrong to think about things that do not affect the real world.
Religion is something that majorly effects the world.
It effect the way people think, how they form their opinions, how they meet other people, how willing they are to evolve.
Their opinions effect our society, our laws, our scientific researching, often for the worse. The quicker we give up religion, the faster we will evolve.
The things that do affect the real world are religious discrimination and extremism. But that isn't your point. Stephen Hawking didnt say what he did out of spite, he did it for his understanding of physics laws.
Yup.
I'm not saying it out of spite, I'm saying it out of fear.
I don't like religion, because religion is a threat to human progression.
Religion is not systematic like you think it is, it is percieved differently by everyone.
Religion is stupid in all forms.
It is something people resolve to because they're afraid to face the real world.
Because 6,000,000+ people were tortured and died horribly in WW2 because of religion.
Because the Dark Ages were because religion had total control on society.
Because almost every war of the medieval period was because of religion.
Because of the crusades, where people raped, pillaged, tortured, and killed in the name of religion.
Because we're in Iraq because some people think that their religion calls for them to kill us.
4/5 of those are because of Christianity. So that's not even including the other major beliefs of the last thousand years, and completely excludes the polytheistic beliefs from 2000+ years ago.
:colbert:
3 of those where in the medieval times, and thus do not apply to today's religion, and two of them had nothing to do with religion at all. And hardly any wars in the medieval time where because of religion, the religious ones just get more coverage.

What does that even mean?
How is anybody, not facing the real world?
Because 6,000,000+ people were tortured and died horribly in WW2 because of religion.
Those 6,000,000 were perpetrated by Atheists AGAINST Religists.
Because almost every war of the medieval period was because of religion.
The majority of European wars were fought over land and power, not religion.
Because we're in Iraq because some people think that their religion calls for them to kill us.
Islam was founded on peace, but radical leaders took it to masscre. It's not Islam's fault.
Also, two more mass-murders perpetrated by Atheists:
Stalinist purges, arrests, tortures, and murders of religists, leading to the deaths of some 10,000,000.
Mao Zedong's Glorious Revolution, which involved wiping out religists other than some Asian religions. Total deaths from this revolution total about 60,000,000, many of whom were religiously affiliated.
So let's tally this up.
Religists killed by Atheists in these 3 eras alone: around 30,000,000 or more.
Opposing religists killed by CHRISTIANS (not other religions, which very few religions have done mass-murders) throughout the modern era: around 5,000,000 total.
The majority of European wars were fought over land and power, not religion.
Religion was power back then
[editline]02:47AM[/editline]
Not so much these days, though there are fanatics.
Those 6,000,000 were perpetrated by Atheists AGAINST Religists.
I'm going to have to jump in and say no. Hitler was raised Roman Catholic and anything beyond that is unknown. The Nazis however wore belt buckles that said "God with us" and were obviously not atheists.

Hitler was quoted saying he "didn't want to be like Jesus, because Jesus was weak".
Sounds like he wasn't Atheist, but he definitely hated religion. He burned Bibles and other religious texts, massacred untold millions of people for religious reasons or otherwise, restricted religion in Germany.
[editline]07:53PM[/editline]
But as my tallies show, even without Hitler's murders counted, the number of religists targeted for religious beliefs, among other reasons, by atheists is about 6x that of how many atheists or opposing religions have been killed.

As far as I know, their mass murders were not because they were atheists who were bent on killing theists, it was because of their political beliefs. Sure, they may have been atheists, but that was not why they killed all those people.
Unlike religion, who has, for the most part, killed out of their beliefs.
Also, I know that it's an exteme minority of Muslims that want to kill us. I specifically refrained from saying all Muslims. But thanks for re-informing me.
Esplain to me how 4/5 of those are because of Christianity? Hitler didn't kill Jews because of Christianity, he killed them because he thought they and other groups of people were sub-human.
I thought Hitler was a Christian. Didn't know it was unknown. Oops. Also, he thought that Jews were sub-human, only explanation I can find for that is a religious one, like "Jews killed Jesus", "They're greedy", etc.
The Popes in charge were total power hungry douchebags who got fat and lived in lovely palaces, while people starved. You always had to bow down and suck his dick, because if you didn't, he would tell your peasents that if they didn't rebel against you, they went to hell. Religion was a huge tool of power in that time period.

Except the majority of the deaths during mao's regime were a result of famine. Not because of religious affiliation. Religious leaders were declared "enemies of the state" and were given the lowest priority of food, but they were a small subset of that group.
Where are you getting this information, by the way? The extreme (read: not likely) counts of deaths during mao's "great leap forward", where the vast majority of the deaths during his regime were from, are around 55 million. And what the hell is the "glorious revolution"?
long like Hawkings
Wow, always entertaining reading these threads, hilarious watching the odd religious dingbat around here flail around trying to argue against logic and reason. Amusing how some concepts that seem so basic and obvious to a lot of us seem to totally elude the likes of Gmod_Fan77 and Akayz.

I would gladly bend over for you if I was a woman, Garry :3:
Not to imply that I wouldn't mind bending over to you now either, just that you probably wouldn't appreciate it as much as if I was a woman.
So thats just great...
Someone saying its "obvious" that there is no existance of God. And another saying it is detrimental to the species to have thoughts beyond what we see.
Great ignorance right there.
Believe whatever the fuck you want, but as soon as you start denying well grounded science I will rip into your beliefs because they are severely handicapping you, and I've known the folk who ardently deny science despite the fact it has a profound effect on their lives, more of an effect than any belief in a higher power.

Agreed. That's why I believe in God AND evolution. Evolution is impossible to deny.
you start denying well grounded science
Stirring the arguement into something that isn't what it is.
Closed mindedness is what it is. Have I once said not being religious is wrong? No, because I have respect for certain people's views.
I think it's offensive to say you have greater intellect than someone who is, when the person knows fuck all more in terms of the real world.
Now this I agree with. It pisses me off when Atheists claim to have higher intellect than those who are Theistic or Religious.
Isaac Newton was religious, Charles Darwin was religious, Galileo was religious, and the list goes on.
I'm not saying Atheists are dumb and Theists are smarter, but whether or not you believe in a god or not doesn't dictate your mental capacity.
Not once did i say I was fucking superior to religious folk, as I've said believe whatever the fuck you want but if you deny sciences I will grind those beliefs into the dust, cause if they keep those beliefs and teach them to their kids, over time it gets worse, and that really shouldn't be allowed to happen, believe in a sky god, believe in Tangaroa if you want, believe in Vulcan, believe in the almighty mole people if you want I don't give a fuck, but if you say "Hell no we ain't evolved from monkeys and the earth is the centre of universe and god created everything" then I'll jump in and say:

For one simple reason, it is.
I love that pic.
Not once did i say I was fucking superior to religious folk, as I've said believe what.
Simski. Not you.
:smug:
That's lovely, I really don't care, cause you're counter productive to my argument :v: to jeep eep btw :v:
I am a person of greater intellect than those people then obviously..
