• New Study Claims iOS Apps Crash More Than Android Apps

This isn't that surprising when you realize that Android has built in Google apps, and those apps are arguably some the best iOS or Android has to offer. I know for my sister who has an iPhone, she often downloads random apps that offer new features or something a Google app would do. I guess some people somehow miss apps that are made by Google and instead download some obscure developer's app. Also, I'd say Apple encourages app downloading far more than Google does.
The thing is that there are only a few availible iOS devices while Android needs to be compatible with lots of different hardware. So it's easier to make apps that are tailor made for the iOS devices but nigh impossible to do so for Android. This makes it relatively easy to create a stable app for iOS. My guess is that most of the iOS apps are created for the top of the line apple devices which causes them to crash when used on older ones.
This is peculiar, seeing as I've had the music app crash on me an astounding two times while, say, the Spotify app for Android pretty much crashes every 2-3 minutes.
The only apps on my Android that crashes is Facebook. But for some reason so many apps on my iPad crash and it doesn't even say why.
I had an iPod Touch at one point, safari crashed ALL THE FUCKING TIME, didn't matter what iOS i was using or if it was jailbroken and modded or not.
"it just works"
2.97% vs 3.66% = 0.69% isn't particularly a margin to get excited about. unless i'm reading this confusing graph wrongly?
Wait, they can crash? What
IOS has a larger app market, IOS is more popular. No shit.
Do you know how percentages work?
2.97% vs 3.66% = 0.69% isn't particularly a margin to get excited about. unless i'm reading this confusing graph wrongly?
I think the graph shows pretty clearly that programs crash more often the closer it is to christmas.
I have 4.3.3 on my iPod just because AFAIK there's no untethered jailbreak for iOS5
I have an iPod Touch and a Macintosh. Both are actually more stable than my Droid and my Windows machine. I've had an app crash maybe a couple times [Black Ops Zombies is an exception. That piece of shit never works ]
A custom ROM on my Android deleted itself. The phone booted only recovery mode.
A custom ROM on my Android deleted itself. The phone booted only recovery mode.
That sounds like a problem with the ROM.
I have 4.3.3 on my iPod just because AFAIK there's no untethered jailbreak for iOS5
Just don't turn it off
IOS has a larger app market, IOS is more popular. No shit.
Have you been living under a rock for the past couple of years? Android is now more popular and has more apps, especially since Android has more than one App Store, there are even third party app stores like Amazon's App Store
A custom ROM on my Android deleted itself. The phone booted only recovery mode.
And that, children, is why we make backups when switching ROMs.
Just got reminded of this "useful and incredible" iOS app that was pulled from the market
And that, children, is why we make backups when switching ROMs.
Same as when changing or reinstalling your operating system on your computer.
Funny, most Android apps used to completely crash the moment I launched them when I used to own a tablet, yet my iPod never ever crashes.
Imagine the shitstorm if this was about Android apps crashing more.
Funny, most Android apps used to completely crash the moment I launched them when I used to own a tablet, yet my iPod never ever crashes.
Guess the launcher on the tablet was buggy
This is the opposite of what I'd expect honestly. Getting apps on the Apple App Store costs more money ($100 per year IIRC) than the Android store ($25 one time fee), so you would think all the amateur apps on Android would skew the results, but apparently not. [editline]5th February 2012[/editline] Hell even I have two buggy as shit apps on the Android market, if I can put out crap like that anyone can. :v:

Crashing has never been a problem for me, but I'm noticed that there are certain apps that crash for EVERYBODY (based on the reviews) and the developers are too lazy to ever fix them, so I avoid those.

My iPhone almost never crashes, while my Android crashes every other day. And it's slow and unresponsive. Gonna get rated dumb because of the Apple hate bandwagon.
My iPhone almost never crashes, while my Android crashes every other day. And it's slow and unresponsive. Gonna get rated dumb because of the Apple hate bandwagon.
*Bandwagon hate right here.* But in all fairness, I've had reliability issues on both. I've had Safari on my iPod Touch crash so hard, it took the entire OS down with it, while the worst that happened on my Android on the same page, was that the app force closed. Likewise, I've had my Android decide to say "fuck that" and the ROM decides to corrupt itself so it won't boot (thank god for recovery!).
Also, most of the time when an app crashes in ios, if it is running in the background, it does not tell you
I'm familiar with both apple iOS and android OS. iOS usually runs a lot smoother than android and though apple apps may crash more, I have yet to see an apple app cause any real problems (unless you have jailbroken it). Usually you're back at it right away. Android, on the other hand, doesn't run as smooth and when it crashes it goes haywire an tends to make users very angry. But this could be because the people I know that have droids aren't very smart. Overall, though, iOS is a better operating system in my opinion.
