From half the responses here, it's pretty clear none of us sitting here safely behind a computer have ever felt dedication to such as cause as this man has. Especially those people who rate Funny or Winner.

You wouldn't of died if you hadn't set yourself on fire

Although I do think his dedication is admirable, what he did was stupid and China isn't going to give a fuck. Like some other user said, when dealing with a cold SOB of a country like China it's much more effective to just light things that AREN'T yourself on fire.
Reason why people think it was a meaningless act? Because people, like in this thread, keep saying it was a meaningless act.
Reason why people think it was a meaningless act? Because people, like in this thread, keep saying it was a meaningless act.
I agree, I believe it wasn't toward the government, I believe it's more directed to the people, showing that they should fight for their rights. Although there is better ways to get attention, this is still effective.
Dear Tibet: Over twenty of you have set yourselves on fire to protest Chinese authority. Do you know how many fucks were given by China? Not even one fuck. Not even half a fuck. The amount of fuckage given may be so low that you OWE china fucks. You should probably stop setting yourselves on fire and start setting Chinese authority figures and structures on fire. That tends to be a pretty effective means in the course of human history of eventually getting what you want. Peaceful protest works only under very specific circumstances. This is not one of those circumstances.
Reminds me of that saying about how you don't win wars by dying for your country. Instead, you win them by making the other man die for his.
and in such a painful way
It's obviously pretty hard to find out for sure, but it's supposed to be excruciatingly painful for a short while but starts destroying nerves and shock sets in quickly, meaning that you don't feel it after too long. Still not my method of suicide, but it's designed to be dramatic.
No no no silly, that only works for extremist Buddhists!
Even though it won't do anything it still takes a lot of courage and bravery. I think burning to death has to be one of the most painful ways to go.
Another problem is, this self immolation had been done several times, and to no avail. They should had learn from it and use a different tactic instead. Plus, its not really big news, since you don't hear the common folks talking about it.
Well, this is unnerving... why do those photos makes me feel in the mood for barbecue?
Apparently it tastes like chicken or turkey :v: Also seems like he tried to replicate what that monk did way back, but he couldn't get his body to calm down enough, so he ran around instead.
That is extremely cruel, you should snip it.
Someone does something heroic and life ending to protest an atrocity and all you have to say is "Oh please snip this! My modern sensibilities are so threatened by this image! I dare say my vagina will fall off!" Grow the fuck up.
as cruel as it sounds, every time I see these photos I play in my head him running around yelling "I IMMEDIATELY REGRET THIS DECISION"
"HATERS GONNA HATE."
Ever think that freedom for your family and friends might be worth dying for?
Yes, by fighting. Setting yourself on fire is another story. I just don't understand how you're an insensitive prick if you find it silly or stupid to set yourself on fire...
That is extremely cruel, you should snip it.
That's probably what they think though, setting yourself on fire isn't exactly the most comforting of pass-times...
Red Scout appears once again to shit all over the thread.
China elevated Tibet practically from the middle ages where they still had slaves and masters and practically no infrastructure
I know why they do it, but i wish they didn't and instead just spent their entire life fighting for their cause.
But then they'll be dead when tibet has been free'd, so they wont experience that.
Does the concept of martyrdom completely evade you?
You completely missed what he said

That is extremely cruel, you should snip it.
I'd say I havn't missed what he said at all. I would say that you have, in fact.
I just had the biggest laugh in my whole life from the LMAO pics thread and this stoped it immediately poor people :(
A less-cool version of Thích Quảng Đức. That's how ya do it!
That's kind of the point of Martyrdom, not everyone is as self centred as you.
Yeah fucking selfish fucks not dying for their cause.
But then they'll be dead when tibet has been free'd, so they wont experience that.
When you understand the large oppression China has ruled over Tibet and the fact that even the Dalai Lama, a world famous leader of the Tibetian movement hasn't really been able to truly free Tibet, it shows you what a terrible leadership China has, and how while it's rapidly industralizing and becoming a modern global power, it's also still a communist state and represses many people. These people symbolize their burning desire (literally) to be freed from communist oppression, a feeling that is still lingering from the cold war. It's very sad, and many people fight very hard to right this, but China is pretty head-strong on their position.

The only close-to communist state I can think of was the Paris Commune. China has actually advanced Tibet from a basically medieval society, but I'd sooner that Tibet had the independance that it wants, so that they can develop in the way that they want without opression.
Badass
