What German comedians think of Brits – from bad to wurst
First off, it's pretty presumptuous to think that is even a common term, I can't remember the last time I heard it outside of Saving Private Ryan and war movies.
Secondly there is a bit of a difference between referring to people as a well known food of their nation and calling people island monkeys.
Thirdly, the term Krautrock isn't considered derogatory so it obviously can't be that bad.
The term nigger isn't considered derogatory by racists, doesn't mean that it is not derogatory for the people that it is aimed at.
The term Krautrock was brought up by british music press in the years after the war, where germans were called krauts. It wasn't a term brought up by germans themselves. So of course you, being british, don't find it derogatory.
If we go by your definition, calling indians ragheads isn't racist because they commonly wear rags on their heads. Or calling the other indians red skins, because they got red skin.

Just because it's not that common doesn't mean it's not within peoples repitore of go-to insults. I've heard people use krauts/german/nazis interchangably like it ain't no thang.
Secondly, are you really getting defensive about the island monkeys thing? I thought it was pretty funny. It doesn't even make much sense, which is all the better.

Lol, you people call us surrendering monkeys all the time and we don't consider that a derogatory term. Why is island monkey any worse?
Wow, honestly most of that wasn't even funny, but actually did seem just deliberately hurtful.
I never thought of Germans as cunts before, but hey what can do about it.
It's okay. To us Spaniards, the only difference between a Brit and a German is whether they wear white or black socks with sandals.
The guy presenting that crappy German show doesn't know its more than just England that's in the UK
This is in fact commonplace, probably due to the UK being called "Großbritannien" in German and there not (really) being a handy abbreviation. (Both "UK" and "GB" sound clunky if you pronounce the letters here.)
It's not that people don't know better, but they constantly use the wrong name for convenience (except in serious broadcast media and print of course).
The show has won quite a few awards by the way (but probably mostly because of their local "reporting" which is much better).
It's geared towards being as offensive as they can get away with in general, starting with their disclaimer stating that "The following broadcast may contain traces of homosexuality and as such will make you gay. Nevertheless have fun (lit. "good entertainment")."
There's no point in taking any of it seriously or personally even if the stereotypes exist to some extent.
Personally I think it's usually fairly funny, but I prefer German sketch comedy by a big margin over this.
TV total is much better too as far as I'm concerned, but the genre is pretty different so you can't really compare that either.

Um... It IS considered derogatory by racists, that's why racists say it to begin with.
John Oliver may be British, but comedy style is pretty far from it. He took a lot of cues from Jon Stewart in that regard
And comon, how can you say guys like Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld and Louis CK arent funny?
I don't know about the rest but I really don't like Louis CK

Bringing up good American comedians and you don't even bring up Dave Chappelle or Richard Pryor? I'm disappointed. Very much so.

He's been in the UK too long that he's become self aware.

our greatest comedian was our lord and saviour Hitler, unfortunately everyone hated him so much we got invaded by the world.

Because in your case it's true?
Because in your case it's true?
Yeah, you're right. And they should think it's derogatory, because it is not good to be a surrender monkey.
Gotta tell you man, the Honecker and sun joke was pretty rad
Ever start to think that maybe your country is the bad guy?

So you guys don't live on an island anymore ?
Heute Show isn't really good anyways. We actually have good comedians, too:

That was actually really funny.
All European leaders should sit down and talk about what terms they ought to refer to each other as and then refer to their people as such and since it was an unanimous decision everyone will live happily ever after.
