Why is it that when someone's alive everyone hates them, then the instant they kick the bucket everyone turns around and adores them? It's weird.
And the difference with Bin Laden is he was still a potential threat to thousands of people's lives up until he died
Thatcher was just some old crone who couldn't do anything really
Its always wrong to celebrate state sanctioned extrajudicial killings. Even if its just against the ~bad guys~
Its not like people are celebrating some Argentinian death squad that stormed the Ritz and machinegunned her in the bed.
But I guess you're probably too jingoistic to notice the difference.

Sorry? What I mean is Americans at least had some sort of 'excuse' in celebrating after bin laden died as what they perceived as a huge threat had been removed
Thatcher's death is nothing like that

There was no excuse.
It as a shameful display of bloodthirsty jingoism. That its amazing to illegally kill people as long as they're ~bad guys~
At least with Thatcher its been morbidly comedic.

When did we ever talk about them before this anyways, you wouldn't even have known what the supporters thought, because when was the last time you decided to go "Hey, let's have a debate on margeret thatcher and her policies!"

Still missing the point, thatcher wasn't in power when she died so obviously there's no other reason for people celebrating than the actual act of her dieing
Yeah there was a lot of "USA USA USA!" when bin laden died but there's fact that there was the fact that many americans saw his death as a removal as a huge threat, as in they weren't just celebrating the act of him dieing
Plus i'm sure there would have still been celebrations across the usa if he died by falling down the stairs or something

But that is just faulty risk assessment.
Did they flood the streets to chant USA USA when they regulated seatbelts in cars?
No, because its not 'Us vs them' jingoism.
And conversely, there wouldn't be celebrations if Thatcher had been deliberately killed.
I can't imagine how much grief her children and relatives are going through, especially with this ridiculous public ridiculing that is going on.
the children and relatives are probably tight-lipped assholes as well.
I never understood why she was in power for 10 years yet everybody here seems to cry about her being an awful person. Surely being in power for that long shows that she was doing something right.

Well that is only 2 more years than George Bush.
MYTH 1: POPULARITY
Thatcher won 43.9 per cent of the vote in 1979, 42.4 per cent per cent in 1983 and 42.2 per cent per cent in 1987, landslide results that contemporary politicians can only dream of. Her opinion polls today remain extremely strong: YouGov polling finds that she is deemed the greatest post-1945 prime minister, and that 52 per cent believe she was a great or a good PM, against 30 per cent who said she was poor or terrible. Even in the north, 49 per cent approve, against 35 per cent who don’t; only in Scotland is the balance against her. Yes, many hated her – but lots loved her, and the majority of today’s public approves.
