Hah, you know, I think it does, but clearly we disagree. So how about a change of pace and you show how I am wrong, instead of just claiming I am wrong.
what
no it really doesn't mean what you think it means, unless you somehow think "pulling shit out of your ass" is anything but an attack on your argument.
ad hominem would be attacking you for your sexuality and the fact that you cross dress
i'm not the one who has to prove anything, there is literally no reason, financially, for Valve to not do L4D3. unless you have some insider information proving otherwise, you're wrong in making any assumptions regarding future L4D releases.
your number also doesn't account for people who joined and then bought it later but forgot to leave the group, or people making multiple accounts to inflate the size of the group, or any number of things.
you have no reasonable premise to your argument that L4D3 won't happen because of the boycott, seeing as L4D2 was immensely profitable and L4D3 would be as well.
The fact that people may have artificially inflated the group, or bought the game and forgotten to leave has no implications. Its the apparent size of the group that is taken in to account, and breaking it down to figure out the reality of those numbers is not a task readily accomplished, and it would be unfounded to argue that they did. When it appears that 40,000 people at minimum are unsatisfied, a company has to take notice. It is foolish for a company to ignore customer satisfaction. And Valve has historically been a company focused on customer satisfaction.
your number also doesn't account for people who joined and then bought it later but forgot to leave the group, or people making multiple accounts to inflate the size of the group, or any number of things.
you have no reasonable premise to your argument that L4D3 won't happen because of the boycott, seeing as L4D2 was immensely profitable and L4D3 would be as well.
If they are making a L4D3 it won't be out for another 2-3 years. They already have 3 main teams working on Portal 2, DOTA2, and HL2:EP3 and 3 support teams working on L4D2, TF2, and CS:S. 6 projects ongoing for one studio is a lot to deal with.
If they really are thinking about L4D3 it probably won't get kicked into high gear till the last bit of L4D2 DLC is done and Portal 2 is out the door. To top it all off Portal 3 has been more or less confirmed so the Portal 2 team will move on to that. And then they still need to continue with the development of DOTA 2/HL2:EP3 along with more support for TF2, Portal 2, and CS:S. So the only way we will ever see a L4D3 is Valve makes a 4th team made up of L4D1/2 devs and some new blood. And if you want to go one step further they could be working on CS:S2 and TF3.
Speculation is fun.
Oh and on a side note, holy derailed thread batman!
They split the team half and half, one part is working on Minecraft and the other on Scrolls. If you guys actually read the article you would know that you don't have to worry about them abandoning Minecraft.
Were not talking about that, but nice try
Valve had the potential to though. If after they did Half-Life, they had screwed around, it could have prevented them from becoming what they are today. Honestly, they'd probably have been shutdown within the last five years because of budget issues. Instead, they saw what their consumers wanted, not just what they wanted, and worked from that.
You have no idea what your talking about.
Any of these scrolls going to be Elder?
But on a more serious note, it sounds interesting, even though there's microtransactions involved. I dunno if i'll try this, I think Mojang's gonna be best known for Minecraft.
You have to buy card packs?
I hope it's not with actual money, because then this will just be a case of whoever has the deepest pockets.
Sort of like a real card game then
Looks ok, probably not in my field of interest though. But I said the same thing about Minecraft a year ago.
Gonna wait for some gameplay and judge then, but it sounds like something I'd enjoy. :keke:
Hope this one won't be programmed in Java
Minecraft was only successful due to social phenomena.
Notch still is a n00b programmer (memory leaks, bugs, not to mention the whole thing being written in java etc...)
I would rather them rebuild Minecraft from the ground up in it's own game engine and finish it...
This. Minecraft isn't successful due to Notch's supreme programming skills.
I hope it doesn't impact the continuous development of Minecraft in the long run
It shouldn't, Scrolls team is pretty much only the guys who Notch hired. Notch will continue to develop Minecraft with Jens (I think that was his name), while the other 3 new guys will be making Scrolls.

Sounds very much like they're sticking with Java to me.

I was mistaken then. :v:
Ah, I forgot! We also announced our new game today! There’s not much info yet, but we’ll be getting an alpha version out as soon as we can!
Scrolls!
I figure most people reading this blog cares mostly about Minecraft development, so let me just say that I won’t be involved in the day to day development of Scrolls. Jakob, one of the guys I started Mojang with, is developing it, and has been since we started the company.
Still, I hope many of you will check it out once we’ve got some more stuff to show!
Looks like Notch won't be working on the new game as much as Minecraft. Good to hear.
I won’t be involved in the day to day development of Scrolls
Of course you won't, you're not involved in Minecraft development neither.

and so there response to this group will be nothing less than never making another L4D game ever again?
yeah right
This game will prove minecraft to be a one-hit-wonder.

I disagree. Although, this perspective is a common mindset in most forms of media its wrong to assume that it is the company's duty to make games that appeal to its existing community, or to make games for the specific purpose of pleasing people. Thats how games like Call of Duty start - total crowd pleasers. If the guys at Mojang were to work on a game after careful research of what the people want, and were to make a game to satisfy the market, their hearts would not be in it - it wouldn't be their game and no matter what would happen, they would arrive at either a finished game which was bad or vaporware.
I don't think they're doing it without the knowledge that they aren't taking a risk - I don't think they assume to be as successful as minecraft off the bat. The interview says they've been talking for months about this game, and now want to do it. If they can communicate their passion for Scrolls successfully and convince people that the game is worth their time, the game will be a success. I'll definitely be buying it.
I'm basically taking the art over commerce route here which is a lot more worthwhile. The best (and sometimes worst) of gaming comes when a game developer goes "Screw what the market is telling me to do - I'm going to do what I think is best for the game itself and hope it goes well". The same happens with music or movies. Gaming is an artform like any other and I really, really hope this works out well for them.
EDIT: that being said I dont think it will be as successful as mc but its fucking stupid to say its going to fail. I think if pulled off right it can match up to games like beat hazard and trine which is nothing to belittle.
Reading threads as this makes me sad, because we know that people like Notch will never see it.
I think that, if devs checked Facepunch and other places, it would just be a benefit (mostly).
I'm not sure if I'm really interested in virtual cards games, hell if I want to play a game like this I will actually play magic the gathering, even If I actually never played that.

Why would you waste valuable resources that could be used on further developing a big success that isn't even done yet. At least wait until you release a finished version of MC to really get into this.
I am apprehensive about this endeavor, but I will not denounce it before seeing it in action.
I don't think I'm going to play this, I can't stand any of those collectible card games anymore :(
I love Minecraft but this just sounds like it's going to be shit :P
I'm really glad to see them choosing to make games that THEY want to play, not just catering to the masses. I won't play scrolls, most likely, but it's still good to see.
I suppose they should be working towards what people want and could be a success rather then what they want.
This is all of my least favourite gaming themes and genres thrown into one. I am absolutely not at all excited about this game. At least minecraft is still fantastic.
