;28444838']I suppose they should be working towards what people want and could be a success rather then what they want.
no no no a thousand times no if you ever want to consider videogames a form of art then it is time to drop this mindset.
Another dumb game about orcs and elves and magic and shit. I expected more from the Minecraft devs
Another dumb game about orcs and elves and magic and shit. I expected more from the Minecraft devs
Minecraft doesn't have orcs, elves or magic.
no no no a thousand times no if you ever want to consider videogames a form of art then it is time to drop this mindset.
I don't consider videogames art. I consider it entertainment.
I sincerely hope there aren't micro transactions :(, they've taken the joy of Team Fortress 2 away from me. (spoiler: there probably will be)
Who the hell plays those kind of games anymore?
How bout actually finishing Minecraft first? Don't turn into another Cortex Command please
Fucking agreed. So disappointed in Data for not finishing that game. I know he says he's still working on it but let's be real here, he's never gonna finish it. I can already see that notch is starting to shit the bed too.
The game doesn't really interest me. I was never a fan of CCG's since I gave up on Pokemon cards many years ago.
I don't think they're doing it without the knowledge that they aren't taking a risk - I don't think they assume to be as successful as minecraft off the bat. The interview says they've been talking for months about this game, and now want to do it. If they can communicate their passion for Scrolls successfully and convince people that the game is worth their time, the game will be a success. I'll definitely be buying it. I'm basically taking the art over commerce route here which is a lot more worthwhile. The best (and sometimes worst) of gaming comes when a game developer goes "Screw what the market is telling me to do - I'm going to do what I think is best for the game itself and hope it goes well". The same happens with music or movies. Gaming is an artform like any other and I really, really hope this works out well for them.
How is making a card whatever game going against the market? Battleforge. Other games. Its a common, proven idea. People know its not going to be like minecraft, even you know that. We're all a little steamed to learn they're spending time on a game they know will be worse than one they already have out. The fact that you admit that you'll buy the game if they talk you into it is shameful. It shows you go on reputation and talk over actual physical evidence. Minecraft is so far from done its not even funny and every time I think about it I have to fight the feeling that Notch wants to push it out the door and forget about it. It didn't sound possible until I heard about this scrolls game. I mean progress on minecraft has already been painfully slow and now he's juggling two games? He can barley keep the webserver up... [editline]8th March 2011[/editline] Man, the more I think about it the more it sounds like Battleforge. I mean the entire article made me sick. The guy being interviewed is talking about all this 'fun' stuff like it hasn't been done before and is super interesting and experimental. I've already played an RTS trading card game with all the amazing features he talked about and it got pretty lame after the first 2 days.
