Yeah, for you maybe. But I use the start menu a whole lot.
Then use Metro? Metro is the new Start Menu and it works wonderfully. It's full screen and easier to organize and search, and it's faster to load as well. It's still just as accessible. Tell me why you don't like the new start menu rather than blasting it because "tiles are too much like tablet awful OS."
We shouldn't have to fix it.
You shouldn't hold technology back.

So do I, and I know how much an eyesore it is. I like the tile system, much prettier and easier to access shit with.
To access the "Start Menu" in Win8, which is supposed to be monstrous and awful compared to Win7, you do the exact same process. Hit the Windows button or the bottom left corner of the screen, bam there's the start menu organized however you want it, with your programs and apps wherever you want them. Takes seconds to use.
All of the data in the OP is pretty interpretable. "Internet Applications"...
I have Windows 8.
Who needs the Start Button anyways? Just use Win + R, or what Loriborn said.
Also I tried 8 and I loved the smoothness, I would use it if I wasn't too lazy to port all of my data from 7.
[editline]1st January 2013[/editline]
Would use it if I had a tablet too.
Uptake is slow because people are scared of change. The start screen is a pretty big change too. There's also a lot of hearsay about its quality 'I heard from someone on the Internet that Windows 8 is bad so it's bad' kind of things.

Ok, use Windows 8 then. Why do you have to shove your opinion down someone's throat?
I love the people rating me dumb without offering to rebuttle as to why the new Start Menu is bad besides "change is bad. It has tiles"
there's no reason to 'fix' anything you can just press the damn windows key, it's the same fucking thing as the start menu
But why get rid of the button? It works perfectly. It's worked for decades. Why would you just get rid of it outright instead offering an alternative?
I'm not saying Win8 is the best OS ever, not am I saying everyone should use it. I'm saying it's a good OS that I've enjoyed using, and I think that if people actually said why they disliked it, they'd see that beyond aesthetic changes, it's a really wonderful OS.
I love the people rating me dumb without offering to rebuttle as to why the new Start Menu is bad besides "change is bad. It has tiles"
Ok, here's a fucking rebuttal - Stop promoting your opinion like it's somehow more correct than other people's.
I love the people rating me dumb without offering to rebuttle as to why the new Start Menu is bad besides "change is bad. It has tiles"
If you mean Blackbird88, thats just what he does. I don't think I've ever seen him post.
But why get rid of the button? It works perfectly. It's worked for decades. Why would you just get rid of it outright instead offering an alternative?
The fucking button is still there. Why does nobody research anything anymore?
Ok, here's a fucking rebuttal - Stop promoting your opinion like it's somehow more correct than other people's.
I never once said people who use Win7 were idiots, stop acting like I personally insulted you because of your OS. I want to hear why people dislike Win8, rather than have them say "stop saying you like it because you're not allowed to share your opinion on a forum and be pleased with your new OS when people attack it without saying why."
But why get rid of the button? It works perfectly. It's worked for decades. Why would you just get rid of it outright instead offering an alternative?
mud huts worked perfectly
they worked for centuries
I'm pretty goddamn sure the reason for this is that there's no killer advantage over Windows 7. I have windows 8 on my laptop, and I like it over 7 but not so much I want to upgrade my desktop too. Windows Vista sold "well" because it had been a long time since XP and the jump was huge.
Windows 7 was extremely popular because Vista proved to be not that great.

They're trying something new. If it doesn't work (which it looks like it doesn't), they'll add it back in. But if it turns out that the average consumer likes the tiles, then the tiles stay.

I've said this before, and it bears repeating.
Until the start screen on 8 supports having folders collapsed by default when you go into the show all view, it's absolute fucking garbage for my usage case.
I have no interest in scrolling through 18 pages of tiles when I could navigate to whatever I wanted within a couple of clicks/keyboard presses. As is, it's an enormous blight on an otherwise good OS.

it's funny because when w7 was released everyone stayed with XP because "they didn't need to switch" but look at it now

Fuck yes, you're allowed to share your opinion, but you're not sharing, you're forcing.
Cos people want an OS for a PC not for a tablet.
But why get rid of the button? It works perfectly. It's worked for decades. Why would you just get rid of it outright instead offering an alternative?
it's still there? it's just not visible. It's actually easier to open the Start Screen with your mouse than it was to open the Start Menu, you just literally flick the mouse to the far bottom left of the screen
I'm still on XP, I'm only now starting to have reason to switch (Newer games are dropping XP support)

Yeah technological progress is just crumbling because people don't want to use a version of windows that's barely different to the last. It'll be like the dark ages all over again.
Cos people want an OS for a PC not for a tablet.
For fucks sake use some common sense and actually research or use the OS for yourself before you make dumb comments like this
The fucking button is still there. Why does nobody research anything anymore?
Uh, no it isn't. You have to use a third-party program to get it back.
Cos people want an OS for a PC not for a tablet.
you
don't
have
to
use
the
metro
menu
holy shit the desktop is the same
it's even EASIER to use because you can just hit windows key, and then type anything (ie paint) and it will launch that app
Everyone who is opposed to the new start menu has never used it.
it's funny because when w7 was released everyone stayed with XP because "they didn't need to switch" but look at it now
If it's that good, people will naturally switch. If it's not, it'll die out to be replaced by whatever the next OS is.
Uh, no it isn't. You have to use a third-party program to get it back.
to get the old start menu back, yes.
the old
inferior
start menu
