Exactly right, it took me a while to see that it is better than the old start menu, its certainly a damn site better looking. [editline]4th January 2013[/editline] Actually, yes you could, every application that requires windows live authentication would just ask you for a login separately. [editline]4th January 2013[/editline] have you actually even used Windows 8? This is the kind of shit you pick up on after 5 minutes of use.
I logged in with my live ID, so how would I notice? I just searched for a way to use a different password for my lockscreen, then tried to get used to metro, then tried to use the messages thingy which I stupidly added my twitter to so I got like a thousand twitter messages in and couldn't see my facebook, then noticed I couldn't actually browse my wall from it, only see notifications and then I gave up because I didn't feel like reinstalling all my programs and shit for some changes I might like but wouldn't really notice, and some major changes I didn't like which I would notice all the time. [editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
Having a strong password is good and all, but from what I've seen, most passwords aren't cracked (which would take a ridiculous amount of time for just a couple of passwords and that's assuming they're simple enough to be cracked in the first place), but are taken from the website's database. So, even if you have the safest password ever, it's useless if someone just steals it from the site you're registered in.
True, but that's why I have a different password for every site I use. I can't remember them all so I use a password manager. Opening my password manager every time I want to unlock my computer is not something I look forward to. I'm not going to use a weaker password for my microsoft account just because microsoft wants me to login to my computer with it.
Look at the people coming into the Windows 8 thread and you'll understand why I'm asking. There's some people that I know for a fact are scared of windows 8.
People are not 'scared' of Windows 8 they just don't fucking like it. I've used Windows 8 for over a month before going back to 7 and I have to say overall it's pretty decent if you ignore the whole metro garbage, some people may like it but personally I consider it ugly and inefficient compared to the old start menu, maybe I'm just old fashioned but I prefer compact UI design not something that takes up your whole screen, the problem with Windows 8 is your not giving a choice in the matter. As a user of Windows 7 I cannot see any real benefit of upgrading to 8, boot time improvements are of no interest to me nor are the supposed performance improvements (I don't see them at all), if Microsoft actually wanted the majority of people to use 8 they should have improved stuff that really matters like their old decrepit filesystem rather than new features that only appeal to the minority of people. Touch interface for me will never have any place on a desktop system.

Whether my use of English is correct or not, this is actually the words the person used. The guy actually posted in this thread a couple of times, though I don't think I've replied to him. And let's just agree to disagree on the UI, I'm on a phone and as such not interested in a long discussion. Classic shell should work just fine, and to my knowledge it's free.
Windows 8 just seems a lot faster and slicker to me
Yeah, I wonder why. It's not as if it's sub-par or anything compared to the old one or designed around an input method most people don't have.
funny how this was posted on the last page:
And this is the joy of the Start Screen. It gives you a lot more real estate to play with. Rather than having a stacked list of items, all somewhere around 50px tall, you have a grid of items, all somewhere around 80px squared. You can fit a lot more on the screen in a grid formation, and it can look a lot neater, you just need to move things around to your own requirements. MS have statistics for this, they have actually researched how to implement the Start screen the best, here is a list of blog posts from the Windows team with their research and results; How the start menu is used - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/10/03/evolving-the-start-menu.aspx This one basically describes how the Start menu has been used based on User Experience feedback. How the start screen improves on start menu features - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/10/04/designing-the-start-screen.aspx This one describes how the Start screen improves on certain features, like searching and listing items, to make the menu more usable. A more in depth look at Search - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/10/18/designing-search-for-the-start-screen.aspx This one explains exactly how and why Search in Windows 8 is objectively better than Windows 7. It's a lot faster, has a lot more options, it's centralised. Just read the damn thing. Answers to questions about the Start Screen - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/10/11/reflecting-on-your-comments-on-the-start-screen.aspx This one covers things like the number of icons on the screen and shit I mentioned. Read this one fo' sho'. Everything MS did in Windows 8 is based on feedback from their automated Windows Feedback programme, and how the users directly critiqued Windows 7. They didn't make these changes on a whim, you're a retard if you believe that. Everything was designed with a purpose.
and everybody ignored it. read that shit, it explains why microsoft did this and why it's a better way. i honestly agree with them, i prefer lots of giant things to some tiny ass lines of text [editline]4th January 2013[/editline] and windows 9/blue will still have metro
and windows 9/blue will still have metro
Nobody wants Metro removed! We just want a choice between the traditional and new styles. Kind of like XP had a classic and new start menu, with the classic one being the same as in 98 and the new one being like in Vista.
I wonder when the idea that perhaps people aren't going to buy this horrid shit will sink in.
funny how this was posted on the last page: and everybody ignored it. read that shit, it explains why microsoft did this and why it's a better way. i honestly agree with them, i prefer lots of giant things to some tiny ass lines of text [editline]4th January 2013[/editline] and windows 9/blue will still have metro
It goes down to people don't know what they want, they just know they don't want what they have. Personally I think a lot of hate for Metro is still unfounded. Certain features do absolutely need to be tweaked for better mouse input, such as the Charms bar, but the organizational power of the new start menu is amazing. I had to organize things in folders before and it was clunky and took awhile to navigate to, but with more items on the screen now, it's just 2 clicks to get to mostly everything I want. Most frequently used programs like Chrome are pinned to the taskbar, so I don't even have to enter Metro 99% of the time. It's totally fine if you don't like it. Even I can see that it needs a bit of work. It's just sad that people are discrediting it for all of the wrong reasons.

Wanna tell me I'm wrong? Don't care, I'm right and I'm not buying this crap. If they want my money than better luck next time Eventually they'll cut their losses and kick this inbred piece of crap into the pit of shame along side its deformed brother Vista and design something that doesn't look like babbies first OS
Customer is always right.
Yeah, not when they're entitled little shits.
I don't want it because it looks like shit and was designed for tablets.
The only thing that *truly* works better on tablets is the gestures. I own a Windows RT tablet. I know by experience.
Wanna tell me I'm wrong? Don't care, I'm right and I'm not buying this crap. I used it for 2 years without a problem. I used Windows 7 for awhile too with no problems either, and Windows 8 is fine for me too. So yeah, don't care, I'm right and I'm not buying your crap.
Yeah, not when they're entitled little shits.
Oh jesus hahaha.
Vista was fine, it had a rough launch.
My sides. But seriously, If people don't like it, people don't pay money for it, and so the market wins and the crappy OS loses
and vista was as bad as xp, aka not bad at all after service packs
Oh jesus hahaha. My sides. But seriously, If people don't like it, people don't pay money for it, and so the market wins and the crappy OS loses
Or maybe people aren't buying it because it isn't a worthwhile upgrade over Windows 7, based on all of the non-UI improvements alone. I got mine for free and that is the only reason I'm using it.
There's tons of reasons it sucks, I just like to pick the really obvious.
It's in every way an improvement to Windows 7 so clearly you must think Windows 7 sucks as well.

Where the fuck is my collapsed folder navigation when I go to view all? Forget all the other complaints that I have with the start screen. Most of those are minor. The lack of collapsed folders outright cripples its functionality by itself.
It's in every way an improvement to Windows 7 so clearly you must think Windows 7 sucks as well.
Oh so it is a worthwhile improvement over windows seven now. Way to be contrary just because I'm the one you're debating with.
Forgive my resorting to ad hominem in order to counter it but that's pretty immature.
Considering your argument is "I don't like it so everyone who does is retarded," maturity went out the window a long time ago. It's kind of weird how people who do like Metro can accept the fact that people don't like it, but it seems like the majority of people who don't like Metro go out of their way to prosecute people who do.

I could give two fucks about metro, I just wish it were an option.
I'm not saying you're retarded for liking it, I'm saying its going to die of no sales like every other shit OS before it and be buried in an unmarked grave when Microsoft lifts their game and makes a better version from the ashes of its horrible burning failure. It happened before.
