tell me, what do you think those reasons are
That is not. It's hard to use linux. Shit breaks and to fix it you have to dig in deep.
There was this presentation video "Linux sucks" or something by a linux developer but I can't find it right now, so if anyone knows of it please post.
There are plenty of reasons why linux is not perfect and lack of apps is not the only one.
Gentoo isn't the only distribution.
Ubuntu is incredibly easy to use, I don't know how anyone could even manage to break it

But money!
Having to move your cursor to the side of the screen to reveal hidden menus is fucking stupid.
Why was shutdown/restart made much harder, or at least take much longer, to do?
Why does Windows 8 automatically log you in to the account that you used the last? This isn't useful, it's a detriment.
My mother couldn't get her head round these changes, nor could I justify them to her.
Neither of those are actually true though?

The fact that I'm not impaired by it in any way?
You still haven't laid out any real arguments to why it's inherently a bad UI. I see your argument about the "shut down" being slightly harder to get to, but then again, the boot time makes up for that tenfold and you're calling that insignificant (and I'll say that it's a nice, but very minor part). Still, on the last page someone challenged you to pick out actual arguments from the first pages - he was apparently cherrypicking when he tried, but even after that dismissal (or backpedalling, rather) you didn't go out of your way to actually present any.
I put a sub-$10 game on finding any post where I'm saying the mouse is inherently worse than touch - I don't see any of you being half as bold here. Just dismissing it with "cherrypicking".

Buyer's remorse to the MAX.
Buyer's remorse to the MAX.
How is it buyer's remorse if he's asking people to provide a valid point?
I'd agree there, but that still doesn't mean the general style is well suited for desktop use.
Except that the desktop version of Windows 8 isn't constricted to the Metro tiles. Metro tiles is simply a replacement of the start menu. The desktop is still there and it still has the same functionality of previous iterations of windows.
Glad to hear.Windows 8 is horrible for anyone that actually uses their computer for work.
I would love to hear why you honestly believe that it's any worse than any previous version of windows. I personally find it easier and more fluid to use when I'm working.
Buyer's remorse to the MAX.
Used it since the DP was released, bought it a few months ago. Even though you guys hate it, I think "buyer's remorse" is a worse argument than "You probably haven't used it". It was $15 to most people, I bought it for $40 since I really didn't want to bother with the other stuff. If you think that's enough money to warrant reality twisting "Buyer's remorse", you're a poor guy.
Just like a fat hooker, just because it's cheap doesn't mean you can't regret using it.

They do, and I suppose they're not necessarily bad if you can get your head around them.

And that's the problem.
Why? you ask?
Because the lack of a alternative.
Fat chicks need love too though I suppose
No fat chicks.
Car can't move.
The alternative is not to use the start menu and use the desktop.
Oh boy, 19 pages, I wonder what is being argued about in this thread?

That's like using a rock instead of a hammer.
Might as well kill explorer.exe and go win3.11 style.

metro is bad because it's touch optimized (aka it has big icons)
then people saying why that's not a bad thing and it works well

Metro is touch optimized because it has big icons, and works well WITH touch screens. It works with a mouse but it's much more cumbersome since a mouse has much more accuracy
I just got windows 8 and the new start menu is really not a big deal
The new taskmanager alone is worth upgrading for

holy terrible sweeping generalizations batman

[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
lmao how fucking pathetically arrogant do you have to be
this is the type of shit i expect from mormon evangelists not a facepuncher
Holy shit, people are still arguing this
I've never seen people go on so much over UI in Windows 8
It's not a big deal, gosh.
Win8 screams "I was made for tablets," but it's not a big deal on desktops. Absolutely nothing that'd make me say "wow, Windows 8 is terrible."
And that's the problem.

Why the fuck is that a problem? In windows 7 there's no alternative to the startmenu. Metro tiles IS the start menu you dolt. Not only is it nice looking it's also easier to use, customizable, full touch support, easier to navigate and all around faster to use than the previous version. The metro start menu deserves none of the hate it's getting and only does because of the first look reactions.
On W7, it's Start>Shutdown.
Windows 8 adds a Charm menu into the equation which you reveal by hovering your mouse in one of the right-hand side corners. To shutdown your computer, you need to go to the settings menu. This adds extra and unnecessary mouse movements and clicks.
I do it the old fashioned way. Close all programs, alt + F4, Shutdown.
At least that hasn't changed since 95.

Wow, you missed his point entirely. He's saying in Windows 8, there is no Start Menu, only the Start Screen. You don't need an alternative in Windows 7.
I have to admit, customization is limited, touch support is only useful for tablets, navigation being easier is a bit of an eh, and it's not faster. Start Menu from 7 wasn't slow to begin with, and Start Screen isn't very fast to note it for.
But does Metro deserve all the harsh criticism? Hell no.
[citation needed for citation needed]
I don't need any citation to tell you that not being able to have multiple windows open at the same time is a bad idea, Or how about the fact that you have to switch between the horrible Metro interface and the desktop whenever you want to go find a program. You can only have one or the other open at a time,Honestly they should have just called it Window 8.
