you made up a percentage and then proceed to spew the ignorance that if you have an SSD you can't boot faster (you can)
That's not what he said. He said that the difference if you have an SSD is so tiny that it's not important.
Let's just say that it takes half as long to boot into 8 compared to 7 (which is an enormous exaggeration. in most cases, they end up being fairly close). Is it worthwhile to go from 100 seconds to 50? Almost certainly. How about from 10 to 5? Meh.
cool more windows 8 for me
On a 7200RPM Western Digital Black the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8 for me (clean install and all) was 11 seconds.
On my SSD (Corsair Force 3) the difference was about 6 seconds. Unless you live by the second, I doubt you'd feel that.
this is how you compare things, just because you can't feel it doesn't mean it's not relevant
Said it before and saying it again. Windows 8 sucks.
Being an owner of Windows 8 and a bit of a power user, i can tell you that it's noticeably faster if you actually take a minute and look at it.
anyways who the fuck cares can we stop the cock waving contest, I mean if you don't want windows 8, fucking fine don't get it but shut up about it
should be bannable to start shit about OS's, really
People are free to discuss the topic at hand even If you don't like what they have to say. That is kind of the point of this section.
It's not that bad once you get the Start menu back
I really don't like Metro
Said it before and saying it again. Windows 8 sucks.
you just came into the thread to say that
why
so much buyer's remorse
No buyer's remorse - I've been running it since the DP, just bought it when it came out.
The thing is, Vista and 8 are two totally different cases. Vista was slow on fuck at launch, and no amount of adaption will fix that. 8 is not slow, in fact it's faster than Windows 7 in pretty much any way, but it incorporates a big UI change. Some people will adapt to this, some won't - so why should there be any buyer's remorse? If you like the UI change, it's a big improvement over 7 in every way.
you just came into the thread to say that
why
I just don't like Windows 8. I look at it on my computer, and I see a duplicate of Windows 7, but made to look horrible. All in all, that's the one downside of it that bugs me. Functionality is one thing, and Windows 8 does it well. Appearance is another, which it does not do well.
this is how you compare things, just because you can't feel it doesn't mean it's not relevant
It's fucking 11 seconds man. That's the time it takes you to scratch your nose and look out the window. If you think it's worth switching over to another OS for that, then I have no fucking comment.
And the 6 second difference is something I literally can't feel.
The difference between Vista and 7 were big, that is why loads of people switched as Vista was a horribly optimised piece of shit that ran slow and crashed all the time with over zealous safety features that made doing anything a pain in the ass.
The difference between 7 and 8 is a difference in terms of SECONDS of run time, that's about it.
The thing with Windows 7 was that it had only merits over XP and Vista. With Windows 8, especially thanks to all the shit with the tiles, that's just not the case for a lot of people. Just look at the fucking shutdown button. It's hidden behind layers of bars.
two clicks and I'm at the shutdown button

Pretty much summarizes my thoughts from the opposite perspective. I don't like the UI change. You do.
Enjoy I guess.
two clicks and I'm at the shutdown button
This to. Now I have to fucking log out and wait a moment or two before the log on screen pops up where I can finally click a button to select shutdown. Used to be just "click, then click" and you're shutdown. Now it takes longer. They're fixing things that aren't broken. They're going backwards.
Ok, fine. How does that relate to the touch-oriented OS that people desperately want me to use on my desktop PC?
it relates in that microsoft wants to create a united platform for all types of devices
you are now backpedaling gj
Jesus fucking Christ, you're impossible. Why are you wasting seconds typing this anyway? I'm sure you can be doing something productive with all the time you saved booting up faster than the rest of us.

you haven't even touched windows 8
it's quite literally two clicks to shut down

ad hominem, please try to debate at least
I have a windows phone and windows 8, so the tiles do not bother me. I did buy the start8 thing from stardock so I could have the old start menu back, I love the tiles on my phone but for a desktop computer they are kinda pointless and really destroyed usability with a mouse. But I like windows 8 and I do not regret getting it.

Not only does everything posted here point to it being a relatively small improvement, but unless we live in a bizarro world where this article is the complete opposite of reality then some people will adapt and everyone else will think it's useless crap

You can't really say he hasn't used Windows 8 when according to his user agent hes using it right now.

why are you even arguing about an OS

That's not what ad hominem is
it relates in that microsoft wants to create a united platform for all types of devices
Why though?
I've said it many times. People are simply not going to adopt touch screen monitors for use at home. Desktops may phase out of existence to quite some degree in the near future, but at the end of the day, using a touch screen on your desk is an absolutely horrendous experience, and navigating a touch interface with a mouse and keyboard is just horribly inefficient.
I'm mainly referring to metro here. The start screen works with a keyboard and mouse setup decently.
You can't really say he hasn't used Windows 8 when according to his user agent hes using it right now.
