Win+I > Power > Shut Down.
You can't deny that that is hard to find. I love Windows 8, but when I first installed it I had to Google how to shut it down.

Hey I've touched windows 8 (for over a month now) and windows 7. The difference is less than noticeable unless you are legitimately counting the seconds.
The saddest thing about all this is that Windows 9 will probably remove the Desktop as an integral part of the OS. I am guessing it will become an optional add-on for Windows 9 Pro or something, for "legacy users" (us).
you used the dev preview gj
in retail all you have to do is move bottom right, click settings, click power, bam
ad hominem, please try to debate at least
DEBATE WHAT? You told me I'm backpedalling, because the fucking difference in boot-up times is INSUBSTANTIAL.
Windows 8 users are like audiophiles, they see improvements where there are none and ignore the data.
So what if it has a slightly faster boot time, it's of no importance to most desktop users.

how is anyone supposed to figure that out
This to. Now I have to fucking log out and wait a moment or two before the log on screen pops up where I can finally click a button to select shutdown. Used to be just "click, then click" and you're shutdown. Now it takes longer. They're fixing things that aren't broken. They're going backwards.
That's not what I meant. In W8, it takes two clicks. Scroll to the charm bar, click Settings. Click the Power button. Bam, there it is: Restart, Shutdown, and Sleep. Same amount of steps as in 7.
two clicks and I'm at the shutdown button
The way I found was -> Windows key -> Mouse to bottom right -> Settings -> Shutdown. That and just Alt+F4 on desktop. Seems there's also some gesture method. But how the fuck is that easier then it was in Windows 7.
DEBATE WHAT? You told me I'm backpedalling, because the fucking difference in shutdown times is INSUBSTANTIAL.
just because it's insubstantial to you doesn't mean it's irrelevant data

I don't think that will happen. It would be financial suicide.
It would also be one of the few things that would push me to Mac OS or Linux.

I know I'm already late on this because I guess I got backed up on it but have it anyway.

Why is the start menu a screen of its own? It was fine as being a little bar that pops up.

lol, what are you doing, you just completely skipped the tutorial when you first got w8
you can just go to the bottom right any time, two clicks

There actually is a easier way to do this.
- Open the Charms bar (right hand corners or Win+C)
- Click Settings
- Click Power
This trips up a lot of people. Its really poorly placed.

I literally just watched the video and I never knew about that. That's another thing. Why should I have to go looking around for the start up button like that? Why would they design it so that you have to go fishing around in the corner to get some crap to pop up. What was wrong with the simplicity of a simple button that you could click that would bring up a nice and simple menu for you to work with.
I think it's also partially due to the reason that people don't want to upgrade an OS every 2-3 years. I mean look how long it took people to change over from XP to 7 (many still haven't either).
My PC wouldn't handle it, sadly.
how is anyone supposed to figure that out
uh, considering you'd probably notice it before you try and shut down...

Sure, it takes some experimenting. But you can master W8 in a day.
vista isn't as terrible as people make it out to be
After all the updates, I find it to be pretty much Windows 7 0,9.
Not only does everything posted here point to it being a relatively small improvement, but unless we live in a bizarro world where this article is the complete opposite of reality then some people will adapt and everyone else will think it's useless crap
Well, if you're opinion is formed only on what is being posted here, I'll say you have a very bad view of what Windows 8 is actually like. Bu anyway, I won't debate sales numbers, they speak for themselves, and honestly nothing in my post is negated by anything you've just written.
Though I'll say that you have to consider the competetition as well, Windows 7 was a big improvement over Vista, 8 isn't. Doesn't mean it's a bad OS in any way.
After all the updates, I find it to be pretty much Windows 7 0,9.
xp was terrible on release too before all the updates came

That's the thing. It shouldn't take any experimenting. It should have remained the way it was, but whatever I guess. It's not the first time I've succumbed to companies making stupid, illogical layout changes. Facebook and Youtube have prepared me for such things. I can live with it I guess.
If they're going to update Windows 8 though, it'd be nice of them to include a Windows 7 layout so I can have a real start menu and not have to look at that app garbage screen.
Or do it in two keystrokes...
Or you can just have a shortcut on your keyboard and do it in one.
