Why can't it be both?
It's not like most people even read the manual. They might flip through it once or twice and then toss it back in the box, never to be used again.
Don't get me wrong, I love when game companies include huge manuals filled with art, maps, etc. But again, I might read through the entire thing once.

I have a shelf full of game manuals and strategy guides. All good reading whilst having a shit.

Something is wrong with me because it's impossible for me to concentrate on a book while on the pot.
Aww but I like reading those in the car ride home from the game store :frown:
Remember when manuals told you the story, gave a background info for the weapons, and characters? Those were the days :allears:
Ubisoft... Really? I mean I don't mind ingame tutorials ,but I enjoy reading the credits, the shit I get to kill, the backstory... Man, I can't tell if I'm pissed or sad.
Or the Quake Manual which humoured you to no end.
I still have my Oblivion special edition.
Amazing box, beautiful map, huge solution to every quest/sidequest, help, hints, tips, and amazing book based on Oblivion world - I loved reading it, it was so cool.
Now we are going to get direct download or just blank DVDs in white, paper case - or just goddamn DVDs. "To protect environment". Protect my ass.
To find the controls, you must be connected to the internet 24/7, and but all DLC that is 45 dollars each.
I remember the days of fat 50+ page manuals with full-color illustrations and all that nice shit.
I'll probably never buy a Ubisoft game again, what with the back-asswards DRM and now this.
I love it when some games(fantasy games in particular) have a huge manual full of information that is mostly background. Beastiaries, history, all that stuff.
Paper manuals are nice. But it's hardly a loss.
Why? did getting a free book with a game annoy you?
It isn't free. You pay for it. It is included in the case therefor you pay for it. It never said "this title includes a free game manual."
If they do this i want the prices for games to go down as well. I'm not going to pay 60 bucks for a game that has half of what it originally had in it.
Well, this is likely going to make it impossible to read the manual while playing the game.
At least without pausing it.
This should have happened awhile ago, but I'm mad that Ubisoft is doing it, since it's only around 10 pages to make one and this proves they're cheap, not environmentally friendly
Ugh, DLC, higher price, no manuals, horrible DRM, and so on. Just ugh.
What Ubisoft, is including a free book in a videogame case too expensive for you ?
Fucking cheapskates

Yeah, instead you can pay $59.50

The shoplifter special.
:jihad:
Valve started doing this 6 years ago, and it's not a bad thing that other companies start to this too. If we had proper manuals, I wouldn't say that. But who cares about a manual telling you how to move and to jump, when there is already an in game help?

it is not free.
What am I going to read on the toilet now? :frown:
Oh come on, there's always a certain novelty to reading through an instruction booklet to a game you know every corner of. And besides, it's not like people are readily tossing their instruction manuals, allowing the ink to leak into the ecosystem.
Also, related. (Warning: Loud.)

pathetic. up next is the removal of 3dmodels to save the energy that would be
needed for the computers to make them.
Remember the Flight Simulator 98 manual? God damn thing was thicker than Stephen King's IT
Well the Sold Separately version was... even the one that came with the game was as thick as 2 or 3 old school Goosebumps books

brb reinstalling fs98
Not really news, games are becoming a digital media along with pretty much everything else, what do you expect?
i always steal manuals when i rent games from rogeres
I have like 70
You people are acting as if Ubisoft is the first to do this. I bought Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 and the only "manual" in them was just 1 single piece of paper. On one side was the code to install it on steam. On the other side was the controls. That was all that was included. But noooooo Ubisoft is now the devil right?
Ubisoft has DRM, and has been making prominent Shit-moves at it's consumers, So yes, It is the devil.
I liked manuals though :saddowns:
They were nice to have around during loading
