the hell is a boardwalk
[sp]i know what one is, but i say this out of the fact that the us has barely any :)[/sp]
i was under the impression that boardwalks only existed in coastal towns
They could build these in the US and virtually nobody would use them.
I think cyclists should just be fair game. Nobody likes them.
I want to cycle to work and ideas like this are what encourage me to do so, I'm just not so sure it's a good idea because of what my work colleagues and general driving is like around where I live. I'm absolutely sure that if I cycled to work that everyone would give me shit for cycling and that eventually some metal thieves will steal it or trash it completely.
Oh hey I made the picture in the beginning.

Might have something to do with me making that video too.
Were you filming?
i don't see anywhere where it says how it'll save 60m dollars in health care

I don't see that either, but it's not really the important thing. I'm juts happy that I'll be able to get faster from A to B.
And if people didn't park on them.
And if I hadn't been forced to swerve to the curb or crash quite a few times because I only looked back in the nick of time to see a minivan barreling into the bike lane to make a right turn.
I wish my city had something like this. I've nearly been hit so many times by motorists and people want cyclists to be fined for riding on sidewalks. So either I take a hit to my wallet or I have to risk being killed.
Apparently cycling is a controversial matter in my city.
So, a bit like what we have in Netherlands:

Jup, a lot of the streets in Belgium also have such bike-only roads going alongside them (with a patch of grass between bikers and cars) except in the city centres
it works wonderfully because it means bikers can go to work/school without risking injury and when driving a car you don't have to suddenly come to a screeching halt because some 'tard decides to bike in the middle of the road.
There's a cycling action group trying to implement Copenhagen lanes in Melbourne. One street heading into the city has the bike lane variously disappear and become crossable by cars as they need to make left hand turns, so basically you just have to go and hope every motherfucker has his eyes open or you get flattened by semis and buses.
Well, I'm talking about Denmark. I'm aware of that it isn't really an option for many US citizens, but even in the big cities, there aren't, to my understanding, much in the way of bicycling. I could go from one part of Denmark to the other end without ever leaving a bicycle path - and there's normally some 1.5-2 meters of spacing for bicycles on either side of the road.
Yaeh that's not the case here. If you're on a bike you're playing chicken with the cars 'n shit too. The only bike lanes I've seen in person are small strips on the sides of 55MPH state highways that people fly down at 70+.
I kinda wish US cities would do something like this for those who live where cycling is feasible. Someone that lives and works in Downtown Nashville, for example, would be better served cycling to work than driving, but there's just nowhere for them to safely do so without having to dodge cars and pedestrians. So nobody cycles.
Actually I find the nice part of Copenhagen really being the old parts, they're much nicer. And what projects are you actually talking about?
A couple of very cool ones are touched upon in this TED Talk. Two or three of the buildings shown (I think??) are in Copenhagen!

These people are the tactic00l version of offroad bicyclists, seriously, all that gear, yet they use their front brakes down fuckin' hill :v:
[editline]3rd September 2012[/editline]
To be honest though, this just seems like city cyclists going offroad. And we all know that city cyclists know jackshit about cycling :v:, you can see like one person per hour outside my house going the wrong fucking direction, and we have like 3-4 cycling accidents a week, even with people who should know how to fucking use a bicycle, like postal services.
Copenhagen is my Shangri-la. Their architectural projects are mindblowingly cool!
It's true. The view from the university I just started on is awesome.

Oh god his accent is so Danish that it hurts. I'll just look it through. I live some 1.5km from "the mountain", though - it's a pretty cool building, but Ørestad as a whole is pretty boring. The "8 house" is also not very far away from me.
My ex's mom actually did (some of) the ski slope project you're seeing in the presentation - she's one of the architectural adivsors to the city council, as far as I now.

You're supposed to use your front brake down hills, just not like a fucking retard.
[editline]3rd September 2012[/editline]
When else would you use a front brake?
I'd like to cycle here in the UK but the thought of doing it on a road terrifies me.
