And that's why you'll always be a sandraker.
Well I did always play Diamond Sword.
To avoid the same misunderstanding as everyone had when this was posted before because of the awful title, it's not going anywhere, this is just the last patch, the servers will still be up indefinitely.
If only they had done the sensible thing and allowed for custom servers
too bad they decided to fuck themselves over instead
But it wasn't. I'm pretty sure I've seen you post this before and I'm pretty sure people have already explained to you why Tribes was dropped. You are the one who is angry and bitter than "your" game failed while a game you don't like is moving millions, not them. This is stupid and you know it.
this is the first time i've complained about hirez on fp in recent memory so i'm pretty sure you're wrong - so please explain why tribes was dropped
angry and bitter? why would i be angry and bitter when i have friends who play and enjoy smite, while i only played tribes a couple of times
what is it with people who defend hirez seeming to be convinced that the person criticizing them is mad, while projecting enormously
hell i even had fun with global agenda when that was a thing, but apparently i'm angry and bitter?
The CEO, Erez, posted this about 3 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/1m7ybi/what_will_hirez_do_with_smite/
Basically, Tribes, while popular at launch, was losing players and money with every update. To the point where they stopped development to focus more on Smite, which was actually gaining more players and money than Tribes ever was.
After 3 years of Smite's success, they were able to start working on Tribes again to fix the major problems players had with the game. The main goal was to appeal to the fans again, rather than making money. But in June, the Tribes Creative Director, Sean McBride left Hi-Rez (On good terms), thus leading to Tribes to be on another hiatus. They're still working on the game (fixing bugs and what not) but there isn't going to be any big content patches anytime soon since Sean was the main driving force for Tribes.
That game was trash. I don't miss it.
Objectively wrong

i had never seen that post so thank you for posting it

It's okay to have wrong opinions
what part of his post is wrong?
The entire last sentence is wrong in case you didn't read the article either.

It's not like I didn't try to like it, and goddamn did I try because of how many good things I heard about Tribes as a kid. I binged several hours a day on the damn thing for around two weeks and even when I got to the point that I was doing well and winning matches fairly consistently, I wasn't having any fun. For how high-velocity you can go, the moment-to-moment gameplay was ironically a total slog. Skiing is a stupid mechanic that stops being fun the moment you stop zooming around mindlessly on an empty local server; it's totally at odds with indoor fights and other moments of "normal" on-foot movement and it made the game completely beginner-unfriendly. The vehicles were barely there and underwhelming, and the jetpacks blew for something that's supposed to be so jetpack-focused. Firefall curbstomped TA when it came to fun jetpack gameplay.
And don't even get me started on the atrocious progression system. Plus it had an ugly-as-balls art style and ran like garbage; PlanetSide 2 runs better for me than that trash, and that's saying something.
Tribes: Ascend is a joke of a game. I'll take that to my grave.

Then why weren't you skiing?
Skiing is a stupid mechanic that stops being fun the moment you stop zooming around mindlessly on an empty local server; it's totally at odds with indoor fights and other moments of "normal" on-foot movement
Sounds to me like you never learned to ski properly. It's not at all at odds with indoor fighting, as even indoors you should be skiing most of the time
it made the game completely beginner-unfriendly.
that doesn't make it bad
so?
and the jetpacks blew for something that's supposed to be so jetpack-focused.
The jetpacks are for letting you ski faster, not for flying
admittedly it wasn't great

opinion

I ran it on a gtx 570 on extremely high settings and I always pulled like ~90fps

sounds like you need to git gud
sounds like you need to git gud
I'll "git gud" when the game sucks less.
The jetpacks are for letting you ski faster, not for flying
They do blow for that too. T1&T2 have stronger jetpacks with thrust vectoring and it lets you get up to speed much faster.
are you reading the same post that i am, how could you possibly think he was mad
what part of his post is wrong? hirez dropped support for tribes initially when the moba storm started and they created smite - now there's a new class based shooter storm and they've created paladins
why would anyone not be slightly worried
presumably you're a hirez fan or something guessing by the anger in your post
Seeing as he was talking about hating hirez for a very stupid reason, I'm pretty clear to assume what I want fam. I'm a smite fan and a tribes fan, not a hirez fan. Hirez created a fantastic product with Smite and constantly are working to keep it as a legitimate, differentiated alternative to the big 2 mobas. Lumping it in with the 'moba craze' is really indicative of how little people know about Hirez's situation. It's not some cheap product designed for short term profit, hirez genuinely breathe fresh air into the scene and I'm more than happy with their dedication to the game.
Not to mention that the post I replied to was talking about how they 'officialy killed it's, honestly I don't need to make an argument for myself here. A very vocal section of people in this conversation simply have no idea what they're talking about
I'll "git gud" when the game sucks less.
Well gee sorry the game doesn't hold your hand and ensures you are a special & precious snowflake.

Ah, that's okay. The Slaughtering Grounds didn't either~
And now, not only is the real starsiege/earthsiege universe dead (the one with stompy robots), the tribes universe is dead too. I wonder what the Sierra devs from the 90s would think if they knew it would turn out like this.

I think they'd be more concerned about how so many people these days can't be bothered to read more than one line of text.
It's not even the last patch, just potentially the last major update, and only because the person that was in charge of directing where Tribes should go isn't around anymore.
I do hope that if/when the servers go down they release one final patch to allow for it to be played without the core servers
