I hate most anime due to the generic anime script techniques. Pauses with audible gasps, cutsie wootsie shite, and blan character motives and such. But get a good strong fleshed out motive behind it and they can do some good. They better make good of ALL the source material and not rely on Hollywood budget and glamour to pass it by.
Anime caters to the lowest common denominator. It's all flat otaku pandering without any coherent plot or story.
Oh and personally by the last 2 posts you made I dislike you. I would totally hack your cyber brain and bust your knee caps.
What?
I can't see dream-works handling a serious piece of media anywhere close to well. It'll most likely totally disrespectful to the subject matter at best, and a shameless cash grab at worst.
Anyway, I see all these people not talking about the most important thing. How badly are they going to rape the tachikomas? An actual tank? Some alien dog robot? Actual robot spiders? I have a bad feeling the tachikomas are just going to be that in name. That is if they keep the name and not name them something else.
You're thinking about SAC, or the Shirow manga I guess. This movie will most likely be based on either the original GitS movie by Oshii which didn't have any tachikomas, but did have a the big ass spider tank. By the way, Shirow's other franchise Appleseed had it's last movie set in the USA. And it was pretty terrible.
I hope it's a good adaption like Edge of Tomorrow and not a bad adaption like Dragonball Evolution. (I realize one is a graphic novel and the other is a manga, but I don't think it makes a difference in this case) The concept of Ghost in the Shell sounds extremely interesting, but the anime is so ridiculously "Japanese" (?) it's cringeworthy. For me anyway as I don't particularly like animes. The only way I can watch Dragonball Z is the westernized Abridged version, the original is just so fucking weird.
Huh, I found GiTs, particularly SAC to be incredibly western. Which is why it's one of the few animes I can actually watch.
I'm wanting to see what comes of this, anime has already been gaining popularity over here and I'm wondering if this film is going push that any further. I'd imagine people that end up liking the movie will want to look into the rest of the franchise once they find out it exists.
You know what anime should be adapted for live action? Big O. I'd fucking kill for more Big O.
nothing should ever be adapted for live action better to have a big o film made like badlands rumble for trigun
It'd be nice to actually have some of the original voice artists from the series to play their roles in this... I hope they don't screw over Batou's savage wit and demeanour, as well as Togusa's naivety. Not to forget the overall philosophical and duty-filled feel to it.
I just hope that the Tachicomas are adorable as fuck.
Dragonball Evolution was a complete success, right? Let's try it again with something else!
Let's not forget that one movie that.. what am I saying? there is no movie.
But will she get the giant tits?
Well it can't be any worse than the original.
It's a Hollywood remake of a foreign property. How does that not reek of awfulness. EDIT: Man, I didn't even notice the good stuff.
I don't know what to think, I'll wait until there's a trailer or whatever to judge
It's a Hollywood remake of a foreign property. How does that not reek of awfulness.
The Office US wasn't that bad.
It's a Hollywood remake of a foreign property. How does that not reek of awfulness.
The Magnificent Seven was a good remake of Seven Samurai, and A Fistful of Dollars a decent remake of Yojimbo. Obviously not Kurasawa-great, but still some of the best westerns ever. The American Ring was a decent. All the other Americanized wet-haired-ghost-child horror movies that followed (The Grudge etc.) were mostly no worse than their Japanese counterparts. Some people liked the new American Godzilla for some reason. And that's just adaptations of Japanese properties. Let's not forget True Lies and Thirteen Monkeys (French), Ripley's Game (German), The Debt (Israeli), Oldboy (Korean), Let Me In and of course The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish). Also, IIRC the original Matrix owes a lot to GitS and anime and general, right down to specific shots and action sequences lifted from Gits: cement cracking three point landing, exploding watermelons etc. And, well, Pacific Rim was pure awesome.
Why do people keep casting her in parts she'd never be fit to play.
Anime is degeneracy. Why are they doing this?
I don't care for anime but I will say I have a soft spot for Fist of the North Star.
Let's not forget that one movie that.. what am I saying? there is no movie.
Avatar isn't anime, though.
Jerry Seinfeld will voice the tachikomas Eddie Murphy will be cast as saito [editline]6th January 2015[/editline] Jayden Smith as paz
The only people I'd even think about letting near gits would probably be the people who made the newest dredd movie.
Also, IIRC the original Matrix owes a lot to GitS and anime and general, right down to specific shots and action sequences lifted from Gits: cement cracking three point landing, exploding watermelons etc.
Both the original matrix and deus ex owes everything to gits.
The only people I'd even think about letting near gits would probably be the people who made the newest dredd movie.
damn that would own
Both the original matrix and deus ex owes everything to gits.
Did Spector admit to being influenced by GITS when making Deus Ex? The similarities are striking, but I never saw any official statement about that.

The Gainax adaptation was best out of those film adaptations, but it's not saying much.
Huh, I found GiTs, particularly SAC to be incredibly western. Which is why it's one of the few animes I can actually watch.
if your bar for enjoying something is how western it is then i am worried
if your bar for enjoying something is how western it is then i am worried
good = more western :) bad = less western :(
if your bar for enjoying something is how western it is then i am worried
I would argue that GitS is incredibly eastern. Almost all of Mamoru Oshii's movies are. Just because it doesn't have schoolgirls or dragon ball z beam battles doesn't mean it's western.

NO If this film is good on it's own terms, it would be a miracle on par with the formation of the universe. In other words, I'm not convinced.
Wait, What is with this title????? No where does it say that Scarlett Johansson will be playing the role of Motoko... You guys are just assuming this, all it says is she will have the lead role. Chances are the characters will be loosely based off the anime, with different names and similar character archetypes.
most likley will be an abomination as much as i would want to believe otherwise. Hollywood tends not to care about making deep epic movies anymore, it's all just churning out little films that will be popular for a few months then fade into obscurity.
