I don't know why the BBC blocks this sort of thing, afaik they never sell DVDs of it or anything so what's the point. I can understand actual TV shows but sports and news seems weird to me
In this case is its a rights thing, they only have the right to show it in the UK. For americans trying to acces the BBC, someone in the thread in GD from outside the UK mentioned they were watching the BBC, maybe they could elaborate on how they are doing it. [editline]31st July 2012[/editline]
BBC's commentary was spot on, I mean I don't know how much briefing the media got beforehand but they knew their fucking shit NBC's on the other hand sounds like they got in a group of 13 year old Let's Players
http://www.london2012.com/mm/Document/Documents/Publications/01/30/43/40/OPENINGCEREMONYGUIDE_English.pdf Here you go, the briefing the media got. I liked that the BBC commentators kept quiet most of the time, I don't get the context NBC thinks they needed to add. Are they suggesting Americans are dumb? All the needed context was provided by the annoucer in the stadium IMO.
Disgusting. Just shows how much American media is fucking retarded. I feel sorry for you Americans who have to put up with these idiots putting shame on you all.
http://www.london2012.com/mm/Document/Documents/Publications/01/30/43/40/OPENINGCEREMONYGUIDE_English.pdf
I can't help but smile with delight everytime I see a picture of Boris Johnson, haha.
The Guardian has a pretty nice article about the NBC's handling of the situation. Also, isn't North Korea one of the few countries where people couldn't watch the opening ceremonies live?
An extension of the quote, taken from Wikipedia: "Our programming is tailored for the U.S. audience. It's a tribute to (opening ceremony producer) Danny Boyle that it required so little editing." God, does NBC even HAVE a PR department? It's like they're trying to piss off everyone.
An extension of the quote, taken from Wikipedia: "Our programming is tailored for the U.S. audience. It's a tribute to (opening ceremony producer) Danny Boyle that it required so little editing."
"It really is a tribute to us how amazingly easy it was to ruin a perfectly good broadcast"
BBC's commentary was spot on, I mean I don't know how much briefing the media got beforehand but they knew their fucking shit NBC's on the other hand sounds like they got in a group of 13 year old Let's Players
BBC is public service and it's pretty much expected of them (law-regulated, even) to deliver. While NBC like everything else in America is a corporation.
Way to stay respectable, America....
Yeah man, America as a whole and conscious collective just up and decided to grossly disrespect our brother country. Because as you know, every American supports this.
This came to mind.
This came to mind.
Except Rammstein is terrible and if the video implies their actual political opinions on the moon landing then I wouldn't take a single thing from that.
Except Rammstein is terrible and if the video implies their actual political opinions on the moon landing then I wouldn't take a single thing from that.
You completely misunderstood my post. It reminded of the whole "LOOKITAT, THATS AMERIKUH IN THE OLYMPICS, OTHER COUNTRIES DON'T EXIST NOPE NOPE" thing NBC has going on with it's olympics broadcasting.
Why is it our small tiny local TV stations that only broadcast city wide are filled with wonderful things but when it comes to media giants it's just downright terrible insulting?
Guys, please don't let the media speak for us (ironic but bare with me). America actually is a good place, we're just represented by the worst people. I swear if you were to come to NYC to hang with me, you'd have a baller-ass time.
I've always thought Americans are pretty cool. It's a shame only the stupid and intolerant make it to the news, but that is the same in any country. We have plenty to spare if you want to take some. Please?

However, consistent with the We the People Terms of Participation and our responses to similar petitions in the past, the White House declines to comment on this petition because it requests a specific law enforcement action.
The olympics itself isn't about America either, then again you're removing a lot of that, too
I just saw this on the daily show. Fucking retarded. sooooooo fucking retarded. I can't believe people this ignorant exist.
Canada
The country that had to truck in snow for their winter olympics?
The country that had to truck in snow for their winter olympics?
Weather isn't a controlled variable
God I fucking haaatteee NBC. I was watching the fencing today, and it didn't show the other people if america wasn't in the match? The fuck! I wanted to watch FENCING not interview central because "murica wasn't in it, thus it doesn't matter". :( I wish they were not allowed a god damn monopoly on coverage.
BBC's commentary was spot on, I mean I don't know how much briefing the media got beforehand but they knew their fucking shit NBC's on the other hand sounds like they got in a group of 13 year old Let's Players
They handed out the script to each commentator. I don't know, our commentator said he worked himself through the script for 4-5 hours, to give the people at home the right context.
wow...so no other acts of terrorism matter except 9/11? yet if it was the US hosting with a 9/11 tribute and the BBC did the same. there would be up roar.
Here's another petition which might yield better results, or at least turn some heads. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/revoke-nbc-olympic-broadcasting-rights-2012/ edit: I just made a general thread for this in gen. discussion, so if we find any more that'd be a good place to put them.
Here guys, a UK VPN that work's great for the Olympics, I'm told http://www.expatshield.com/
It totally works, I'm watching archery eliminations right now, China and Germany :v:
What the fuck is wrong with NBC? Since some things don't have the US in it, it means they have to remove it? Like what the other people said, if BBC or another tv company didn't show a ceremony of remembering 9/11, there would be an uproar from the US or even NBC. Its a shame to see that if something is not about the United States on important events, then it won't be shown. Remember, the States is not the center of the world. Sure, there are some that are shown, but if it references or benefits the US.
Except Rammstein is terrible and if the video implies their actual political opinions on the moon landing then I wouldn't take a single thing from that.
You completely misunderstood that song/video didn't you?
BBC's commentary was spot on, I mean I don't know how much briefing the media got beforehand but they knew their fucking shit NBC's on the other hand sounds like they got in a group of 13 year old Let's Players
The Dutch commentary spoke about rehersals that they also have watched, to prepare for the actualy official one. So you can assume almost all voice-overs have watched it a few times.
I don't know why the BBC blocks this sort of thing, afaik they never sell DVDs of it or anything so what's the point. I can understand actual TV shows but sports and news seems weird to me
Licence fee.
Nothing anyone else hasn't already said. Fuck NBC.
Except Rammstein is terrible and if the video implies their actual political opinions on the moon landing then I wouldn't take a single thing from that.
Rammstein isn't terrible and the whole song is merely about the entire westernisation of places that really don't need to be like that. Mickey mouse going to Paris and Santa Claus going to Africa? Not the least bit necessary.
