Well TF2 doesn't have Lens flare and alot of other bullshit BF3 does, so thats debatable. I never said that though.. so not sure where you're pulling my opinion from.
What the fuck is their problem?
It's kind of like the anti-doping league, they want to look TOUGH ON DURGZ and get publicity
This man thinks that TF2 is more realistic then BF3
I'm pretty sure he is saying it's unrealistic like most fps games out there, I don't understand what the problem is?
Reminds me when Q3 players used to force all the graphics settings to as low as possible, so it was basically plain corridors with blocky people running around them. That made it easier to play at a high level because if it moved, you shot it, basically. Or so I was told.
I can understand why people want to change the colour scheme (BF3 looks horribly washed out - I think the only time I liked a game that dyed everything with a hint of a single colour was Fallout 3, and even then that got tiring in places), but I can also understand from a technical point of view why letting them do so is difficult in terms of preventing cheating.
Jesus Christ, I don't think even Craptasket could overreact like that. And he's the King of Overreacting.

People still do that or try to do that on games that allow it, even Valve does it somewhat as the competitive maps for CSGO were released with some stuff removed.
I don't understand how it makes it more competitive or something when you are taking stuff out that you should adapt to or use to your advantage.
so whats the point of even making colored textures then
just make black and white textures and add color correction
not like you can tell anyway
They're not banning people just because they changed the colors. This article blows. The method they're using could be used to cheat.

Weapon values in the editor, you can change ironsight FOV, spread, recoil, damage, ammo counts and more, the other values are within the categories on the left.
Example of edited M16 from back when he was testing the values 11 months ago:

Lastly from the man himself:
Due to the heavy focus on the client in bf3 compared to bf2, modifying weapon damage among other things actually increases the damage dealt in multiplayer games (compared to bf2 where it does exactly nothing at all; make sure you understand this, modifying damage on your client is NOT meant to have any effect in online play in any game with decent netcode). bf3 (like bc2) also does not check for modified content making it possible to join ranked games with pb enabled. I have decided to reupload the tool as it is simply a mod tool after all (a very limited one to be honest). As far as I understand there are even people out there using injectors to play around with their graphics which is exactly how hacks work. I wouldn't touch one when playing online. The worst thing I can see happening when using modified files is a kick the moment you join a game (that is how it was handled in bf2). On the other hand as far as I know injectors might get you banned instantly, though I am fairly ignorant when it comes to hacks. I'd like to add, I had modified some files for bc2 three months ago and played a bit online. The account is still not banned so I would not trust others when they speak of bans for modified content.
Now quit ranting, DICE fucked up and they don't want to make it public.
Bit colourful for me too, but shouldn't be a reason to ban.
It's something I'd need to experience by playing than comparing to default shots.

DICE epitomizes "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Oh wow. And this program was undetected?
Whoever thought that this stuff should be clientside is retarded.

Sadly yeah. It's even more of a glorious example of stupidity as they are just gonna ban users instead of just fixing it already, 2 things can be changed and it would be fixed instantly.
Add a server check to weapon values when they are sent to the server, kick or ban if invalid.
Add a hardcoded hash check, even though this can be get around its still better than nothing.

Why don't they add them then? Surely the effort required wouldn't be any more than banning a bunch of people.
It probably stems from the "our files are superhard to modify on consumer hardware and thus no mods" stuff they let go a while ago.

Because DICE are stupid at times. I think we understand that now.

...this isn't what tf2 looks like you know...
If I get banned for using this so be it.
I'll feel the same way I did when I was banned from MW2 for hosting a dedicated server. It wasn't a modded server that gave super EXP, it was a normal, dedicated server that I hosted because they didn't have any kind of hosting ability.

why would you be banned? :v:
This is because Activision is retarded.
The reason so much shit is handled clientside is so it puts less stress on the servers, but for the best multiplayer experience you want pretty much all the gameplay elements to be handled serverside.
Leaving it clientside opens up a huge gaping hole for hacking.

If DICE wasn't being restricted by EA regulations mods wouldn't be an issue.
BF3 Colour DLC
Someone's going to be buying that.
The biggest turn of for me in BF3 was the horrible bloom, glare, and all around incredible visibility issues.
This mod looks like it would make it much more enjoyable.
You know, aside from the gameplay style of: "If they see you first, they win automatically.", the shitty community and all that other shit.
Using color grading and lens flare in the base game were bad ideas in the first place.

ffs
They should have stopped at 14 or 15
How would they know you're using it? It's not like DICE keeps up to date with EVERYONE'S game files, it's a 3rd party mod.
