DICE threatens to ban BF3 users who use color-correction
266 replies, posted
I have a lot of trouble playing BF3, the lack of focus, awkward colours, and something I can't quite explain about the picture hurt my eyes after a while. Only other time that ever happened to me is when I started using an LCD monitor for the first time.
The color mod fixes a lot of that and makes it much easier to play.
Where's the threat?
If the banning is automated I totally understand the warning. The mod is injecting stuff into the client.
Seeing as there really isn't any threat, the comment on it being "too colorful" might as well have been more of a joke. But it's not really relevant, it's not the reason you're getting banned.
Everyone who calls it "color gradient" must suffer the tortures of hell.
It is color grading.

It isn't injecting anything. It's modifying client files(by modifying these same files, that are static, on disk, you can get infinite ammo/health/instant kill bullets/no recoil and spread/etc. good job DICE).
Punkbuster is now kicking for md5 violations on these files(not sure if banning). Patch PB's md5 routine(which requires patching PB's crc checks), and you've got an easy game breaking hack.

I don't get it, it's even ignoring my userscript for image width.
e: apparently sharex didn't listen when I shrunk the screencapped area, I'll go ahead and thumb that for you guys

not how it works... the criticism is fine but the way they are fixing it is the problem
I think it looks much better with the mod, especially Wake Island.
Anyone actually got banned for this yet?
I played BF3 a bit yesterday. All I notice when I play BF3 is that I can see shit when looking in certain directions because of the sun and all the fucking flare it puts on your screen. And there is so much head bobbing it makes me actually nauseous, but you can't turn it off because it would probably create some kind of balance issue (or everyone would just turn it off).

The sun and flashlights in general are a major pain in the ass if either happens to be roughly where you are trying to look. The new mountain map in Armoured Kill is a uphill struggle both literally and figuratively because you are climbing up a hill whilst being blinded by the god damn sun.
But if you are getting nauseous from video games, I think think you can blame the video game, that's something that is clearly wrong with you. After a while I seem to stop noticing the bobbing, immersion can do wonderful things.

Attacking with the sun at your back is a tactic

oh god, my sides
ive been laughing for a full minute, damn.
Remember kids, in the Battlefield 3 universe, the human race actually stems from the Fremen.

Why is the sun always so damn low :(
BF3 is meh even if you don't count the colors. XDXD OP METRO SLAUGHTER 24/7 servers and a shitload of small maps.
DICE, I'm dissapointed.

You're playing on the wrong servers then. Learn how to filter maps.

... I know how to filter, I'm not dumb. And apparently you are blind since bf3 maps ARE small. Look back at 1942 or BF2.
I am proud to own a copy of ArmA 2!

complaining isn't going to make the other maps bigger, and you seem to be part of a small minority that cares
"Too colorful" is something I would imagine The Best Gamers saying about this.
I myself love the way the game looks normally. I generally don't like plain looking games and prefer ones that have some style to it.
Wake Island in reality.

Armored Kill features the biggest maps in Battlefield's history, and there are some massive maps in the Base game of BF3, and Back to Karkand. And you call him blind.
color theory changes everything
tinting shit like this ruins all the work the artists put in.
How many artists can Battlefield 3 have when it's all based in reality with a brown shader?
A Tf2 with Bf3 graphs could be nice?
How many artists can Battlefield 3 have when it's all based in reality with a brown shader?
You are massively oversimplifying this. It still needs artists for the general look and feel of levels, characters, texture work and so forth. Just because it's based of realistic approaches to graphics doesn't mean there arent any stylistic choices and things like that.
Plus it's a blue shader you silly :v:
my main problem with bf3 is the fact I paid $60 for a fifth of the game, and im fucking NOT going to spend another 60 for the rest of it.
fuck you EA.

You paid $60 for the entire base game. Not one fifth of it. The expansions are entirely optional, actually fairly worth while additions to the base game. At least they didn't totally kill the entire base game by not allowing people without the expansions to use the expansion weapons.

Why do you feel entitled to content that was made after the game has released.
Free content post-game is a privilege, not a right. Not every developer/publisher is like valve.
