I wouldn't actually mind playing as a black link, or maybe a kind of mixed race link. There are a lot of races in the zelda universe, and although link has always been an elf boy, it could be that the new hero of hyrule was mixed race, or maybe even a different one altogether.

I'm going to sign the petition for shits and giggles, it'd be interesting to see how nintendo react to it.

I swear there was like a whole race of dark skinned people with prominent noses that lived in the desert in oot, i got the idea that although ethnicity still existed in zelda, the ethnic groups were completely different (after all its hard to have people of earth's racial groups in a world where none of earth's continents ever existed)

They made tetra look dark, but presumably because she spent years out on the seq (she turned white as zelda). What i do hate is sjws trying to turn everything into a political statement. I like zelda because its fun, not because link is white

What's the point of this petition? We don't need FORCED black characters in every nintendo game, besides they included black characters in their video games previously, there's no "injustice" here:

just like any other site, your experience is what you look for. You follow people who post cool things, you get cool things on your wall

This isn't the first place it's happened, just the most prominent right now because of its ease of use and wide variety of bubble communities to end up in, and the ability to add your own words to anybody else's posts and put it out there for your followers to see. It's not a hidden away comment box, it's a primary function meant for others to interact with, so even the niche members end up getting themselves heard outside of their little circles pretty fast.
