Are you fucking kidding: Petition asking Nintendo to make Link into a Black Female for the next Zeld

It would be neat if they let you customize Link. Not necessarily to a SR4 extent but just as a little bonus.
Ignoring this specific petition for a second.
Why not have a game where Link is a black girl?
What would be wrong with that?
And what would be wrong with fans asking for that? I mean this particular petition is an obvious troll, but what exactly would be wrong if it was done tactfully and not as a troll?
imagine if just at some arbitrary point in the harry potter books, harry returned as a completely different gender and race
so, you have a conundrum where you either make the same character, but with different colour skin and gender, at which point you've basically blacked up your old character and then claimed that they're different or you change the character of the person, at which point you've basically made a new character and might has well called she/he a different name in a different series
it's like saying that the blackadder shows should have had blackadder inexplicably be a completely different gender and race in one of the series

I see your point your making, but with harry potter and blackadder its the same person while in atleast most of the LOZ series link is a different person each game. So POSSIBLY it could happen really, mind you it probably won't. Mind you that "open world" LOZ we got teased about at E3, link looked quite feminine imo.

In terms of Harry Potter you're right, but in terms of Blackadder you're not. The character of blackadder is actually slightly different in every series, in an almost identical way to Link actually. Different timeperiods with slight differences in character.
It doesn't make sense to change the character so dramatically as to change their gender or skin colour - unless you're not going to change their character, at which point there was no point in randomly changing those two things.
either you make "Link who is also a girl", at which point you've basically changed a familiar face for essentially no reason or you make "Girl - Link" who isn't the same character as Link, as therefore might as well not be called Link and might as well have been a new character that you could play as.

Except Link has rarely been the same person between zelda games.
It's not like changing a character who stays the same between each game, like mario.
what about my otherkin representation you fucking therianthrophobic cis-human scum
Twilight Princess has you covered.
yeah brah the character in this japanese game made by japanese people who has a distinct japanese accent in every game he's been in is totally white
totes

If you think Link is a completely different character between games, then you somehow managed to be even more clueless regarding the Zelda series than me.
The fact that the designers refer to the younger iterations of Link as just that, younger iterations or the older ones as 'teenage link' clearly shows that Link, while varying between games, has the same core character
either you're wanting a girl version of link, which is basically just link in a girl's body, so not really a girl, or you're looking for a different character
or you can try and aim for some shitty middle ground where you have a girl Link who is sort of like Link, but sort of a different character, at which point people will wonder why you've hamfistedly changed the gender of a character for what will inevitably be minor changes (because the designers clearly like Link as a character)

Because white people hate and fear those different from them and will do anything to keep their characters white and straight.

while the canon of the history of the games goes off in random paths, it all stems from skyward sword. The whole reason there are so many links is retrofitted by that one to say that the link and zelda in that game would be cursed, their future generations/successors/reincarnations were doomed to repeat their struggles for eternity. All of the links and all of the zeldas are essentially descendants separated by many, MANY generations.
Could someone have had an interracial relationship and a chain of descendants end up primarily another heritage? Sure. In the way some crazy people who actually believe in the petition, they just want it to happen because it's like a random chance that someone turns out to be link in concept. As far as the (really simple to understand) premise goes, he is reincarnated as the same person across time because that was his curse. That's why there's histories and prophecies in the games that point him out rather specifically (like the below tapestry from link between worlds) , because he and zelda are literally the same as they were in the last life.

tl;dr the games already determined it was canon that link, zelda, ganon, and other recurring characters are always the same people reincarnated across time

i think the idea of a hero getting reincarnated in many vastly different people but still essentially being the same brave and selfless person in all of them is a pretty thematically interesting idea tbh
She will be Lonk from Pennsylvania.
A black lady as lead of a video game? HOW ABSURD.
Why not trans-species body-positive as well?
This binary gender system concerns me
I wouldn't mind a female link because they could basically keep it looking the same as regular Link but making him black is taking it a too little far from the formula. If they want a game where you play as a black female person, give Impa her own game.

that's basically dr who, heh. I understand the point and ease of concept, but this is also a series that had set in stone decades ago that it was the same person every time. They keep them identical not only for ease of story, but (let's be honest) ease of brand recognition
Because white people hate and fear those different from them and will do anything to keep their characters white and straight.
How about we don't generalise entire races?
I wouldn't mind a game where zelda's the protagonist (apart from the fucking CDI games that is) but turning link into a female protagonist (let alone a black one) is dumb as shit considering it'd violate the canon pretty badly.
Is there any reason why Link couldn't be? I mean, I don't care at all about whether he is or not, but isn't that whole universe built on reincarnations of the same hero throughout time, places, and alternate dimensions? It really isn't that outlandish to think he would be born a different skin tone, or possibly gender. Zelda was an islander with dark skin in Wind Waker, after all
Not saying Link SHOULD be a different race or gender, just that it wouldn't bother me at all, nor would it really change the canon or theme of the game, if Link was born a dark skinned lady, or whatever else, in one of his incarnations.

I haven't played a Zelda game since Majoras Mask, so I'm not a totally familiar with the canon, but I thought that Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf were basically just reincarnations of the same three souls who were destined to clash with each other throughout time and space, or something like that? Fill me in, here.
The game also has to distinctly narrate that this link is also asexual.
I'm telling you folks, this equality stuff is a real slippery slope into the unkown abyss of WTF.
My advice - Never go full retard.

i know i'm just saying in general, it kinda gives a gateway for some nice aesops/morals, like not necessarily needing to be a carbon copy of a legendary hero for them to live on and (metaphorically) be reincarnated in you through your actions, etc. not necessarily applying to this series in particular, but honestly as long as it's thematically appropriate and they're still likeable, i couldn't really give a flying toss if the next player character in a series was a black genderqueer trans-dimensional whatsit.

but "it wouldn't change the canon or theme" is not a reason to do it?
you're asking them to make him a female character, and then saying that him being a female character wouldn't have any significant implications
so basically you're asking for them to make a link in a girl's body
lol facepunch managed to combine hating feminism and making fun of black people into a single thread
Why couldn't these people have included "jewish" in the petition as well, that would have been great! We'd have photoshops of ganon as hitler, jokes about how we'd finally get a starting wallet that holds more than 200 rupees, all sorts of great comedy.

yeah i thought this too, but then i realized... blonde hair? blue eyes? they're not very japanese traits.

"not ALL white people!!"
yes congrats not all white people hate the idea of recognizing minority groups. but as public reaction (both generally and in this thread) demonstrate, it certainly is a LOT of them.

more people in the thread talking about how people are overreacting to a petition
so I don't know why you're throwing around the classic "facepunch are racists!!!" when this thread has more people being rational
but I guess it's easier to throw out the hivemind shite and be edgy rather than make good posts
this kinda makes me mad, really wish i could tell this person to literally fuck themselves hard, i mean as l4d had a black guy in it. grand theft auto? I swear black people bitch way too much
yeah i thought this too, but then i realized... blonde hair? blue eyes? they're not very japanese traits.
most japanese folks haven't got pink hair or purple eyes either but that doesn't stop a lot of them from being portrayed with those traits
this kinda makes me mad, really wish i could tell this person to literally fuck themselves hard
so you're so offended over merely the thought of a female protagonist of color that you want to verbally assault the person who created this petition?
sounds like you might have some issues that need sorting out.

that's true enough, but considering blonde hair/blue eyes seems to be a trait of many hylians (zelda included) it seems to suggest race more than a single pink-haired protagonist in an anime

are you me
that is exactly what I was going to post, same colors and all, but then I deleted it and moved on :v:
