Yeah I know, it's just strategic density :downs:

innocent people died

Don't even bother arguing with King Tiger. It'll just end up like that one Westboro Baptist Church thread.
You're naive and pathetic if you believe World War 2 could have been won without civilian bombing.

why shouldn't one apologise
i think another salt in the wound is that when we sent their kids to Italy and they fucking kicked ass as 442nd, we had them sit far away while white americans participated in the italy liberation parade to hog all the glory
You don't even know what dark parts of history are.
I am from russia. Stalin is proven to have killed more russians then germans did.
You're naive and pathetic if you believe World War 2 could have been won without civilian bombing.
Why? It was largely ineffective.
It didn't ~break the will of the people~ on both side. It just killed and brutalised hundreds of thousands.
Pretty much every country did fucked up things in WW2, good and evil on both sides. While I back the allies and I think they were the "Good Guys", you've definitely gotta recognize the crazy disturbing shit they did. but that's not to say the "axis never did anything wrong".

why do you have to act like a hardman, how'd you feel if your family and most of your property was destroyed because you lived in the wrong country?

We were talking about the dark parts of American history, under the current government. We haven't been through the kind of governmental changes that Russia has, so everything that we have done can still be pointed to as our government instead of just saying 'oh, that was the old communist government, they are to blame'.

Could easily exchange that "Oh that was the old communist government, we're not to blame" with, "That's how things were back then, we're not to blame"

Which is true, since it's unlikely you were alive or had any say in things back then... but at least under a completely different, totalitarian government you knew that you had no say in things.
Wasn't one of the reasons for extreme racism and such to dehumanize the other side of the war so soldiers could kill easier? I remember one of my history teachers saying something like this.

Racism has always been a huge part of American culture.

Yup, the UK actually deported some people to Canada and Australia because they posed a 'security risk'.
Oh, and we also interned Jewish refugees in case they were spies or sympathizers with the Nazi regime, which showed how much we were paying attention.
trail of tears
japanese internment camps
red scare
I'd post events like these from other countries too, but my history is not strong enough for that.
Could someone finish this list?

Civilian bombings are nothing to apologize for.
Then lets just go ahead and bomb your house
you probably deserve it anyway
In a way, we did kinda apologize for the mass bombings.
Marshal plan yo.

It's not about feelings. It's about waging an effective war. And civilians are one of if not the most important part of waging a war. Eliminate/reduce the civilian population and you eliminate/reduce the enemy's ability to wage war. It's pretty simple.

Yeah Hitler thought that when he moved bombings against the British from military targets to population centers.
It's one of the situations that gets pointed out when people talk about how much of a strategic DUMBASS Hitler was.
You're not only wrong on the "ethical" side of the argument.
You are objectively wrong.

No. Hitler didn't have the capacity to destroy any substantial amount of the British population because his air force was being flat out beaten by the RAF. That is what made it a dumb decision, among other reasons.

It's okay to kill people

as long as you win
That is without a doubt the

dumbest

fucking thing I've read all year.
And I've read some pretty dumb shit this year.
Civilians do not contribute jack shit to a war effort. Every civilian in the southern United States could disappear right now and our soldiers in Afghanistan and wherever the hell else they've ended up wouldn't feel a goddamn thing about it.

Civilians make the supplies used by the soldiers and are one of the most important reasons to fight at all. Without civilians, why fight? For your country? What is a country if not the people that live in it?
However, attacking civilians is a fucking VILE thing to do and I regret that the utter fanaticism of Japan made us feel that it would be far more devastating to continue fighting a land battle rather than wiping out 2 civilian manufacturing cities.
My grandpa and his father were sent to the camps after flying some kites near the beach. The government thought they where signalling fucking submarines. We also owned a bunch of land right next to the fucking Chinese theater in hollywood.
Civilians make the supplies used by the soldiers
i always forget about supply lines and shit
that'd probably make me pretty terrible in military strategy

no it wasnt
the germans were beating the british RAF and attacking their airbases until hitler called them off and told them to bomb population centres instead

Wasn't Germany's first bombing of a civilian target in England completely by accident, and then after seeing how much England cried about it, kept doing so?
Not really the brightest part of America's history, but I can understand why it was done.
Could have been done in a more humane way.
Understand why it was done?
There's absolutely no excuse for that travesty. Not one. Canada did the same thing.

I suppose you think R&D and complex missiles come out of soldiers' assholes.
There's Call of Duty, and then there's the real world. Do some goddamn research before you make yourself look like you're thirteen.
