There are people out there who have the thickest boners imaginable from pissing, shitting, getting beaten to a pulp, hardcore BDSM, disabled women riding public transports and inflation, and all it takes to weird you out is a fox with tits

welcome to the world of 2014 i guess

to be fair, you don't see them doing the fetish equivalent of whippin' it out around kids as much as furries do

I was among those evacuated last night, from the 9th floor. Before the alarms went off, from the balcony, and we could see the cops pull up and later they were lining up at the other side of the 9th floor. Definitely the most emergency vehicles I've seen in one place.
I took all of these:

It was surreal to see all the people in the hotel lobby sleeping on the floor as we waited to get back into the hotel. We didn't get back into the hotel until 4:30.

Probably because their costumes are often seen as mascots? And how furries often go to fund raiser events to raise money and awareness on issues and it's also effective? Various medical research and animal shelters, among many other things, have received donations from furries and the fundraisers and events that they host. Practically every con has a Charity Auction and thousands of dollars are donated.
I do agree that furries, like cosplayers, go out with their costumes more than other fandoms and groups.

I always say, as long as it doesent affect people negatively IRL, or is IRL stuff in some cases, people can be into whatever they want.
I can admit i'm into a fuckton of things most people here would find weird as fuck, though i respect those who ain't into it.
That's what i like about most furries though. You can pretty much like whatever you want as long as it isn't certain stuff, and as long as you can act respectable about it, others wont usually mind.
Geez i need to get better at wording my thoughts
i'd like to point you to
The Star Wars and Trek fandoms have also existed a lot longer, and as a result have had time to accumulate plenty of their own crazy incidents. A simple Google search provides the following rather violent examples:
Man chokes wife to death over Star Wars figurine.
Man murdered after offering Star Wars figurines as payment of debt.
But my personal example of how crazies exist in every place you can find people in large quantities, here's probably my favorite Star Wars fandom related tidbit: Jediism. A new age religion.
People will obsess over the silliest shit, and as a result will do some of the silliest shit you can probably imagine. The argument that furries are somehow unique in causing stupid incidents because Star Wars and Trek fandoms haven't done something like that is just not an argument, because it's simply not true.
If you put a group of people in a small space and you give them something to obsess over, you'll find very quickly that people will take that stuff to incredible lengths, and as a result others often get hurt. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a furry that did this in the first place.
I like furry hentai, but that's where I stop, wearing those silly costumes is ridiculous and stupid. And I dislike animals especially if you have one as a pet.
Oh are we arguing about furries now.. Stay classy Facepunch

Even the people who own fursuits are basically divided between those who wear them for cons and those who drill fuckholes in the suits to get freaky in them, and the latter are generally despised by everyone because they're entitled cunts who think they can damage handmade suits and cover them in cum and still expect the creator of the suit to take it back and fix it.

Pretty much every thread about a news article or anything remotely furry or brony has always been argued and bashed on one way or another in the history of FP. And the Internet.

One of the reasons i like facepunch is because from my experience, there is less people who hate on fandoms here, and the forum is more tolerable as long as you behave, which is nice. I think ever since i joined i've only seen like two people really attack someone for being a furry, and that's less compared to most places i've seen.
I understand that a lot of people here don't like furries, but like it or not, they're humans too. They don't deserve to die, especially not by a chemical attack.
Usual times: "If I identify as a dog you should respect it"
Emergency: "I am a human too!"
Jokes away this is very scary
What a heart.
[sp]If it were my ex, I'd hope she inhaled the whole fuckin' bag.[/sp]
That's fucking psychotic.
The dude puking up blood in one of the articles is this one dude I know, and one of the dudes closest to where it happened is one of my friends. This shit's crazy.
You have to a be a proper psychopathic kissless neckbeard to jump on the hate furries bandwagon so hard you think that a chemical attack is a good idea.
Whoever did this, assuming it wasn't an accident nobody owned up to, is going to have a federal level manhunt against him and probably have domestic terrorism charges put against him.
Oh also this shit made me almost lose my mind last night because one of our mutual friends came into the skype call and said "Hey, you heard about the MWFF chlorine thing? [Friend] was right near the center of it, and people are saying someone died!"
I can't even begin to describe how happy I am that he and his roomies are okay. Fuck, dude.
Sniperoony, I didn't realise someone puked blood.
Next big Con someone should dress up as a clumsy pool maintenance guy with a fake bag of chlorine powder.
not funny
How many times have you heard of that sort of stuff happening in the way larger, far more active Star-Trek and Star-Wars fandoms?
How much more likely is it for a story about a rape or assault to point out the perp was a furry than if the perp was a trekkie?
Next big Con someone should dress up as a clumsy pool maintenance guy with a fake bag of chlorine powder.
People have cosplayed Tumbles the Stairdragon so I don't doubt that people will go as a pool cleaner or something.

Most furries aren't otherkin. Those that are generally get as much hate as non-furry otherkin morons.
There's a line between "my character reflects me, I'm a fox because I'm playful" and "I'm a fox on the inside". One is a roleplaying character and one is your personal identity.
It would be like playing D&D and telling everyone you're really your character, even when you're not playing. That shit is annoying and most furries just wish you'd go fuck a fox fleshlight or something.
not funny
Nobody died and nobody got seriously injured.

Yeah that's what I was gonna post about, people literally cosplayed as someone who tried to kill themselves.

this never happens. closest you'll get to otherkin at a con is someone who is very... VERY deeply in character ALL THE TIME which is terrifying.

I'm just waiting for the "I SURVIVED [THIS EVENT]" shirts and other merch
If we're talking about mental health issues within a certain community, there are a lot of interesting parallels to draw in any fandom. A few of its members will inevitably use it as a means of escape from reality. Immersing themselves in whatever fantasy they want to live in, surrounding themselves with other members of the fandom so they don't have to live in the real world for longer than they absolutely need to. We've seen it in the Anime fandom, trekkies, furries, bronies, tumblr SJWs, whatever. It's a sort of voluntary insanity. Eventually it's got to come crumbling down, and personally, I'd rather face reality head on than be dragged back to it kicking and screaming.
you do realize that it's different for every fandom right
furries naturally have a fucked up majority much like bronies do (gee, it's like as if furries are a fetish and mostly focus on porn or something!)
spongebob has a massive fandom too but you don't see them murdering eachother or making as much porn as furries do
Minority, and just like any fandom, it gets its rep from its most vocal participants. And the most vocal minority in any fandom can often be obnoxious for various reasons. Pick a fandom.
Comparing Spongebob's fandom to Furry is a moot point. That's a fandom for a single all-ages cartoon whose target is kids and teens, VS a fandom for multiple forms of media (spanning decades of time) which all feature a specific character design trait, whose grand majority of active participants are adults (a lot of whom are artists who contribute to the library of media that fans buy and consume).
And, yes, adults are gonna want to draw some dicks, tits, and asses. They're adults. Adults love dicks, tits, and asses. You see similar shit from the Simpsons fandom, or the Star Wars and Star Trek fandoms, or fandoms for many different game franchises — Just think of it as fan-service. But the big reasons why it seem like Furry has tons more of it, is because there are tons more participants, a far stronger focus on original content, and frankly it's just a far more sex-positive environment.
Learn about it yourself before you trash it, and don't just go by everyone else's opinions. Look up some art, talk to people in the fandom, ask what inspires them and what they love (or hate) about it. Chances are you'll find a lot of 'em are self-aware, because let's face it: It's some damn silly shit.

you know i was surprised at the number of "normal" people i saw at the furry con i went to earlier this year, and that's coming from someone who's been in the fandom for like, 7 years. for every dude in weird rave pants and a fedora there were at least 20 people who looked normal as hell.
at one point i saw an elderly asian couple walking around together and saw they had badges of their characters around their necks.
that aside, in a way i agree with what you're saying. i really love the idea of being able to make yourself feel better by being immersed in something you love, it's great, but it may get dangerous if it becomes your entire life and becomes an excuse to not try to better yourself. it's like a drug, really.

It's not a thing a majority engage in at all, but you know people who do. All of us who've been around a fandom at some point in our lives know someone.
