Nobody died and nobody got seriously injured.
I dunno man I'd consider
puking up blood
a serious injury, internal bleeding isn't just "I smelled something funny and then I had a sore throat for the rest of the day"
Heh, interestingly enough, fandoms and religions have that in common.
How much more likely is it for a story about a rape or assault to point out the perp was a furry than if the perp was a trekkie?
Cue all the stories of bronies turning out to be pedophiles.
Learn about it yourself before you trash it, and don't just go by everyone else's opinions. Look up some art, talk to people in the fandom, ask what inspires them and what they love (or hate) about it. Chances are you'll find a lot of 'em are self-aware, because let's face it: It's some damn silly shit.
You're a bold man for having stuck his neck out into this discussion; the people on the other side are usually unwilling to let go of preconceptions or just like to bash on people who're different from they are. They also have a flair for evangelism in trying to make people into a fandom 'see the light' in how bad it is. Problem is, like every fandom as you've mentioned there are good and bad sides to it - it's not like Two-Face's penny where both sides are heads.
I dunno man I'd consider a serious injury, internal bleeding isn't just "I smelled something funny and then I had a sore throat for the rest of the day"
I was wrong. I'll snip it and keep my serious post.
Meanwhile on Reddit's front page..
sounds like a plot line in dreaming of utopia
Why can't you just let people like what they like for one day of the year, this is really low and hopefully everyone injured is okay
Usual times: "If I identify as a dog you should respect it" Emergency: "I am a human too!" Jokes away this is very scary
Even if that were the case, you know that this entire thread would have been outrage, horror, and sympathy, if the chemical attack had been at a dog home or something. So even if you don't want to consider them human (which is way more ridiculous than finding Sonic the Hedgehog attractive or some shit), it's still a totally unprovoked attack on living, breathing organisms. Or are people now going to insist that furries don't have pulses or they're classified as some form of insect? [editline]7th December 2014[/editline] Even if this had been a big convention full of Neo-Nazis, I wouldn't have wanted them to be gassed. For one thing, that'd be hypocritical, and for two, it would be frightfully ironic.
Any ideology or worldview that considers human beings of a certain social, ethnic, political or religious denomination less "human" than others is one in the same vein as Nazism. And no, that's not hyperbole.
Problem is, like every fandom as you've mentioned there are good and bad sides to it - it's not like Two-Face's penny where both sides are heads.
It is true that all fandoms have their bad sides, but as far as I've seen, Furry does try to police itself. Abusers and creeps are called out and are not tolerated, and they do their best to ensure animal abusers don't get away with it.
you know i was surprised at the number of "normal" people i saw at the furry con i went to earlier this year, and that's coming from someone who's been in the fandom for like, 7 years. for every dude in weird rave pants and a fedora there were at least 20 people who looked normal as hell. at one point i saw an elderly asian couple walking around together and saw they had badges of their characters around their necks. that aside, in a way i agree with what you're saying. i really love the idea of being able to make yourself feel better by being immersed in something you love, it's great, but it may get dangerous if it becomes your entire life and becomes an excuse to not try to better yourself. it's like a drug, really.
I think i've managed to hit that balance. The furry fandom has helped me through some really rough times a few years ago, and thanks to it i have gained a boyfriend, i've met fantastic friends, i've improved my social skills, which for someone with autism is hard as fuck. And best of all i've learnt to accept who i am, and my confidence has risen from basically not existing. Heck its because of the community i even dare to write anything on facepunch, or any other place these days.
imagine hating a community so much, you wish death upon them via chemical attack because they like what you don't this forum amazes the shit out of me
Was it proven to be chlorine gas?
It is true that all fandoms have their bad sides, but as far as I've seen, Furry does try to police itself. That highly depends on your definition of "creep".
Are you guys seriously arguing about an abstract fetish involving non-existent fantasy creatures fucking each other There are people out there who have the thickest boners imaginable from pissing, shitting, getting beaten to a pulp, hardcore BDSM, disabled women riding public transports and inflation, and all it takes to weird you out is a fox with tits Like, is your sex life seriously that boring that anthropomorphic animals are too wild for your standards
I got lost at this part
imagine hating a community so much, you wish death upon them via chemical attack because they like what you don't this forum amazes the shit out of me
"but dogfuckers!"
"but dogfuckers!"
Animal abuse like that is luckily not very common.
Where are all the other odd porn fetish avatar people at?
Where are all the other odd porn fetish avatar people at?
at the convention
Where are all the other odd porn fetish avatar people at?
you mean the anime-wifu people? they're at midwest anime con-chan, its down the road
you mean the anime-wifu people? they're at midwest anime con-chan, its down the road
No I mean the people who Like BDSM and like to express their hobby through avatars.
How many times have you heard of that sort of stuff happening in the way larger, far more active Star-Trek and Star-Wars fandoms?
What about the little girl who was almost abducted at my local Comicon, arguably the most well known/most socially acceptable con in the country? I dislike the furry community as much as anyone, but generalizing all furries together saying they deserved to be victims of a chemical attack makes you seem kinda crazy, bro
you do realize that it's different for every fandom right furries naturally have a fucked up majority much like bronies do (gee, it's like as if furries are a fetish and mostly focus on porn or something!) spongebob has a massive fandom too but you don't see them murdering eachother or making as much porn as furries do

Minority, and just like any fandom, it gets its rep from its most vocal participants. And the most vocal minority in any fandom can often be obnoxious for various reasons. Pick a fandom. Comparing Spongebob's fandom to Furry is a moot point. That's a fandom for a single all-ages cartoon whose target is kids and teens, VS a fandom for multiple forms of media (spanning decades of time) which all feature a specific character design trait, whose grand majority of active participants are adults (a lot of whom are artists who contribute to the library of media that fans buy and consume). And, yes, adults are gonna want to draw some dicks, tits, and asses. They're adults. Adults love dicks, tits, and asses. You see similar shit from the Simpsons fandom, or the Star Wars and Star Trek fandoms, or fandoms for many different game franchises — Just think of it as fan-service. But the big reasons why it seem like Furry has tons more of it, is because there are tons more participants, a far stronger focus on original content, and frankly it's just a far more sex-positive environment.
Even after an amazing genuinely helpful and thoughtful reply like that, he still refuses to believe anything except 'but dogfuckers', and stalks the thread through ratings. facepunch never changes
Marvel as SexualShark makes a complete ass of himself! This is a once in a threadtime opportunity!
The amount of people that know furries on this forum is staggering.
despite my love for informative replies, this is why I'll never write one a few years ago the homophobic portion of FP was significantly louder, but the only thing that could silence it was a shifting ratio in new user tolerance, and bans [editline]7th December 2014[/editline] double automerge break
It is true that all fandoms have their bad sides, but as far as I've seen, Furry does try to police itself.
Even after an amazing genuinely helpful and thoughtful reply like that, he still refuses to believe anything except 'but dogfuckers', and stalks the thread through ratings.
Don't forget the creation of countless troll alts to try and "prove a point"
