Furries still make zero logical sense to me and it's impossible to explain to anyone how its not totally weird. I'm a totally normal dude, most of my friends in the fandom are totally normal, and yet we're all brought together by this really strange thing. Its just the culture and companionship of it is different in a way that appeals. Meeting up with friends all across the country in one place to party and chat and indulge in this strange common interest is super fun and engaging. There are total weirdos and the socially awkward but what I found most surprising when I started going to cons is just how many normal, cool, successful and interesting people of all ages were into this thing and identified with it. The friends you make in the fandom can be stronger than any friends you'd make elsewhere.
Such as? I don't see any attraction other than just porn.
Well some people have a poor self image and and use "Fursonas" to represent themselves positively, it can help keep people from feeling sad or even depressed.
Some even like it because it brings a change to art and can help things look a little different in their everyday life.
Also as stated above even friendships, some use it to meet others and form a social life.
I knew a furry who did very well, I think he was trying to trick me into some sort of sex but I stood my ground.
...ok?
I mean is this one person why you think every furry just wants to fuck and talk about fucking
because again, you'll find people who do that anywhere. some people are just really fucking into sex or whatever fandom they're into or any combination thereof
i mean i bring up my darth vader/darth maul lemons to all my friends

That's 50% of what he talked about; 50% Half-Life and 50% Furry fandom and handjobs.
That's 50% of what he talked about; 50% Half-Life and 50% Furry fandom and handjobs.
well like i said you're just letting one person shape your views which isn't really a good thing in any case
you'll get freaks anywhere in anything
Such as? I don't see any attraction other than just porn.
Sex is totally apart of the fandom but absolutely nobody I personally know is apart of it primarily for sexual reasons. Its just like normal porn really, everyone is into it but most people except the kinkiest dont really primarily identify with it.
I cannot believe people in this thread have gotten away with actually advocating the chemical attack and praising it without getting banned.
I don't like furries but that's really fucked up that a large amount of people are okay with it happening. It's like since the WTYO thread was closed "dogfucker" came from nowhere and turned into an insult freely able to be used as widely as "autist" or "gay" and you can just sweepingly generalize people different than you with it. Get the fuck over yourselves, people could have died.
Don't assume that everyone has weird/abstract fetishes, that's often not the case.
Lol bullshit.
If you don't have an abstract fetish that means you haven't found it yet.
Good luck explaining it to the judge.
"Will the defendent please take the stand."
"Your honor, my motives were justified because it was a furries convention. For furries. "
It is really sickening reading this thread. So many people saying this is right since, LOL THEY FURFAGS. Even if, furries are people, and no person should get killed or hurt by some fuckface with chemicals.
I hope the get whoever did this.

I'm not a furry anymore, left the fandom a long time ago, but when I was, yeah, thats how I met a load of people when I was a part of it, I didn't really give a shit about the porn at all, just, the people I met and shit, played a lot of vidya and shit.
Furries exist because of sexual frustration.
Sometimes you're pretty smart, Laser.
This isn't one of those times.

What defines abstract though?
Cross posting because I feel it's relevant.
Serious question. How would you catch someone doing this at a fur con? I'd think it would be pretty trivial to dodge surveillance. Just dress up in a secure location, show up, dump the stuff, leave, and undress in a secure location.
Then again, this assumes that the person doing this wasn't stupid.

What defines abstract though?
Something that isn't strictly sexual, I think he means? Like, you can't say you've got a tits or ass fetish and think of it as unusual or abstract, since those are two things heavily sexualized in contemporary society. A foot fetish is an abstract fetish. As are transformation kinks, furry, etc. Abstract fetishes are usually created when some emotional or intellectual need is satisfied in a sexual manner. That's my own theory, at least.
Furries exist because of sexual frustration.
sounds like you're speaking from experience, friend
What defines abstract though?
I would say anything that either goes beyond sexual relations with humans, things that usually aren't deemed sexual but sexualized anyway (I.e. feet, gore) or just acts that can't be replicated irl (vore, inflation, transformation).
So animal fuckers got into some toxic shit?
So animal fuckers got into some toxic shit?
Usually people call them dog fuckers from what I've observed.
I feel like my problems with furries stem from all the fucked up weird ones I went to school with and dealt with in person. Idk if where I live is full of the "bad side" of the furry community, but it seems like I've only talked to and interacted with the annoying overly-pushy ones.
[editline]7th December 2014[/editline]
Although I will admit no furry I've ever met has been as despicable as a Brony
-nevermind-
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you sit on Facepunch and like to pretend like you're any cooler than the average furry... l m a o
You guys act so autistic.
It's a strange fandom full of some of the weirdest creeps I've seen in my life, but nothing justifies harming people like this. I wonder how long it'll take to catch who did this.

If there was a chemical attack at a FacePunch Convention, everyone would be prepared because everyone would be a 14 year old with a gas mask.

The community is a huge draw, finding like-minded people is an obvious point. There's a very general appreciation for anthropomorphic characters — you can't expect adult works to be the only draw, oversaturation bores most people rather quickly. And there is a ton of works for fans to enjoy, examples being the all-ages and lighthearted Wuffle, the sombre On Yonder Lee (it just ended, $2 for the complete comic), 1930's Prohibition-era crime romp Lackadaisy, long-standing Edo-period action series Usagi Yojimbo (who has crossed over with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on multiple occasions, in the comics and cartoons), or the straight-up Eisner and Harvey award-winning Blacksad.

With bronies it's the same thing. I know some bronies who are reasonable human beings, but most people wouldn't know that they're bronies. At the very most, they might have a themed iPhone case or something like that, but as with literally anything, the ones who people hear about are the ones who put themselves out there the most. If you judge every fandom by the most vocal minority, then every single fandom is utter shit.
Aw fuck I am sorry about my earlier comment.
Was just trying to take jabs at disgusting furries.
Nothing in the initial thread quote said people were actually harmed and had to go the hospital until I read the comment below mine and realized it was more serious.
Of the people that were taken to hospital, at least one was complaining about their lungs "burning", so this shit's serious.
On the upside, according to reports on Twitter, the Hyatt is taking responsibility for the bill for ambulances and medical care for con and hotel guests affected by the incident.
I heard that they weren't giving compensation since it was determined to be intentional
