Honestly, this was infinitely more fishy than anything spez did.
Way to totally ignore the context of internet access/visitors.
That and it is the 27th most visited website in the world and 8th in America. According to alexa.com
And people use it as their main source of news intake in alot of cases.
Oh you use text posts on reddit as a reliable source of news do you? Your own fault m'dear.
(User was banned for this post ("Shitposting" - Bradyns))
Should have just muted the subreddit and banned it from /all. Everyone would be happy then.
everyone except mostly everyone
honestly they would have to write one giant explanation as to why they removed r/the_Donald. obviously the conspiracy nuts would flip their shit no matter what, but there might be some reasonable bystanders that might go "this is censorship"
might be easy if they've been storing records. could cite the amount of hateful comments and the admins barely doing anything about it, could cite the amount of misleading and fake news that gets posted there and the admin not doing anything about it, could site the amount of warnings from the admins that the subreddit received and how they were ignored or not taken seriously
Oh you use text posts on reddit as a reliable source of news do you? Your own fault m'dear.
Holy shit you are completely daft if you think that is what I mean in only text posts.
You ever been to their news or politics board?

If you blocked T_D it showed r/Politics instead. IIRC they never confirmed it was a hack.

No, I haven't. I don't care about politics half as much as you might think I do judging by your "you're only strengthening the side you hate"(lmao) comment, and I look at actual trusted news sites.
But I do know enough to know that determining whether a source is reliable or not is up to no one else but the reader. Like if you must rely on Reddit for news, reddit admins can only change the text of posts, or their links. They can't change or edit websites they don't own.
Current Subreddits on r/all right now with this story:
r/The_Donald x2
r/WikiLeaks
r/UncensoredNews (Right Wing Subreddit that believes their news is better than lamestream media news)
/r/OutOfTheLoop (Neutral Drama Thread)
r/circlejerk (Meme Subreddit)
r/SubredditDrama (Neutral Drama Thread)
r/conspiracy (r/the_donald's daughter/girlfriend)
r/technology (Neutral Subreddit)
r/KotakuInAction (Gamegate)
r/TheNewRight
r/Conservative
Spez needs to step down.
Holy shit.

Imagine being so pissed off about users calling you a cuck you kill off your own website.
Its a forum. The internets a big place. They can go somewhere else.
And before you say Reddits all about free speech, how is the donald allowed to ban every dissenting opinion making the whole place an echo chamber. A safe space like those they criticize. Youre not allowed to argue or reason with them.
reddit has never not allowed people to be banned from individual subreddits. They are their own communities after all, and dollars to donuts you're not actually going in there to "argue or reason", you're probably just looking to spark a reaction and salt mine posts. Which is exactly what ive done in the past to subreddits i think are full of morons, like theredpill.

Can we stop with this shit? Yes, what Spez did was unprofessional and the worst mistake he could have made. But let's not pretend that having a highly vocal group of people constantly spamming messages saying "Fuck you" that get immediately directed to his inbox and then being accused of pedophilia for shutting down the cesspool that was PizzaGate isn't going to make someone act irrationally. I'm not defending what he did, but it wasn't just "boo hoo someone insulted me on the internet".

Yes it is? If he cant take people calling him names on the internet, maybe he should have stepped down instead of stealthily editing the content of peoples messages.
Jesus thats even worse than fp mods
honestly they would have to write one giant explanation as to why they removed r/the_Donald.
Besides the blatant spamming and vote botting? And according to the chat log leaks if they are to be trusted, doxxing, death threats, and even smashing up a site admin's car.

I find it interesting that you sympathize taking the moral high ground when you could instead ban the user with a specified reason and face the repercussions on a case by case basis. Obviously the guy had allocated the time of day to manipulate user's posts, who is to say he couldn't have just reflexively banned people if he had a real case for harassment?
Seriously there's not a single thing he can say that relieves him of responsibility. He corrupted the core tenant his website supposedly stands for.

Credibility LMFAO
You can't destroy something that never existed.
At least Reddit's CEO don't have any pretensions of the place being more than a (distinctly seedy) messageboard.
man... and i didn't think 2016 could get any worse. first starpluck... now spez
man... and i didn't think 2016 could get any worse. first starpluck... now spez
What did starpluck do? Or is that a meme?
Messed with the wrong safespace.
oh wow so apparently the post he edited was the one found in the washington post article about pizzagate
https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/5ekks6/reddit_admins_secretly_edit_the_donald_user/

To be honest he should delete his website and be done with it.
And then people can agree to never host hundreds of communities under one administrative staff ever again.
What did starpluck do? Or is that a meme?
He tried to swindle his way out of a toxx.
What did starpluck do? Or is that a meme?
He didn't eat the flag
What did starpluck do? Or is that a meme?
Refused to carry out his toxx and tried to use his clout as a moderator to get unbanned and restored to mod, resulting in 50 pages of shitstorm in the toxx thread in GD. You can go check it out yourself if you want, it should be near the top. Started getting good around page 20 I think
He stooped to literally begging some of the mods to not have to follow his toxx and destroyed whatever reputation he could possibly have had beforehand and I think that should be immortalized forever
/r/t_d is an awful cesspool, but the petty post-editing us not acceptable in any manner. In fact it sounds like something that /r/the_cheeto mods would do if they could! And I consider stepping down to their level pathetic.
The worst part about this entire spectacle is that the entire alt-right of reddit feel legitimized in their fight against their enemies.
Editing posts as part of the administration is worse then being a cesspool tbh...
they lost the moral highground and probably a lot of respect with it from everyone.

In a way, rightfully so

I keep hearing about different events being bad because they legitimize trump supporters
I mean, if the bad guys keep getting repeatedly "legitimized", maybe there's a reason?
This is the most ridiculous overreaction I think I've ever seen

This kind of stuff is patently ridiculous. This is literally going to be a repeat of the whole Ellen Pao conundrum that happened a year ago or so, a whole lot of conspiracists losing their marbles, cries and protests of corruption and subreddits shutting down, everyone's going to suggest to migrate to voat, then some time passes and everyone forgets.
What spez did was pretty shady, sure, but it was so innocuous, it is seriously impossible to take all this "reddit has no credibility!" nonsense seriously, if reddit even had credibility to begin with.

Feeling legitimized and being legitimized are not the same thing.

Yeah it's called overblowing the situation and saying that since once incident happened, then other incidents must've happened also.
"HE MUST'VE DONE IT PLENTY OF TIME SECRETLY!!!"
"OH MY GOD, OTHER SITES MUST DO THIS TOO!!!"
"I BET THEY'RE GOING TO ADD CHILD PORN TO MY BROWSING HISTORY! OH MY GOD!!!"
(These are all real, top voted posts on various subreddits.)
Alt-right breeds fear. They control fear. They use that fear to recruit others for their cause. Why do you think that subreddits like r/conspiracy and r/theredpill are socially right wing?
All the nutjobs that think that spez editing some posts, then admitting, apologising, and fixing them, legitimises the life-threateningly dangerous tin-foil hat nonsense that is r/pizzagate, as well as the constant flow of misinformation and fearmongering that is r/the_donald are grabbing at straws invisible to the naked eye.
If this stays heated for a while, which it might, spez should step down for PR reasons, but as it stands, it's such an overreaction to something so unbelievably minor. Imagine if these people were as outraged at the leagues of corruption the companies and government agencies they deal with as much as spez editing some posts.
to me the /r/pizzagate thing isnt the problem
the problem is that the reddit owners actively admitted they have the power to edit posts to whatever they want without a trace. this reaction isn't overblown to that.
this singlehandedly destroys any credibility of any reddit postings, because what if the reddit admins want to play dirty and trash someones rep by posting as them? or hide info they dont want coming out?
we only know they can edit posts too, who knows what else the admins have as tools.
