Is it confirmed that the sticky fix is only for T_D? I think T_D is a shithouse but I do agree that they should just fix the exploit globally rather than actively silencing a sub. It just leaves the door open for another sub to abuse the same exploit and like you said, sets a poor precedent for neutrality on the site.
he addressed this. he says if he removes the exploit without doing anything else, then sports subreddits will suffer.
he addressed this. he says if he removes the exploit without doing anything else, then sports subreddits will suffer.
There are plenty of better workarounds. eg: have it so that you can only put up one sticky post every 24 hours.
he addressed this. he says if he removes the exploit without doing anything else, then sports subreddits will suffer.
A righteous sacrifice for a righteous cause.
Already starting to backfire to only specifically fix that exploit specifically for T_D. https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/5fte99/first_they_came_for_us_is_your_community_next/ Already top result of /all. Shortsighted idiotic decision.
It fixed that method of exploit, it didn't mean that they couldn't do it another way.
Damage done, T_D has more ammo now.
Damage done, T_D has more ammo now.
T_D would have continued regardless of that exploit being fixed. People can filter /r/all now anyway, so that ammo might be a bit useless.

You are daft to think that a filter will silence the group. It only strengthened their resolve and gave sympathy.
Reply back to me when their subscriber count goes down and maybe you would be right. You are daft to think that a filter will silence the group. It only strengthened their resolve and gave sympathy.
The filter isn't specifically for them, it's for anything.
The filter isn't specifically for them, it's for anything.

We have identified hundreds of the most toxic users and are taking action against them, ranging from warnings to timeouts to permanent bans. Posts stickied on r/the_donald will no longer appear in r/all. r/all is not our frontpage, but is a popular listing that our most engaged users frequent, including myself. The sticky feature was designed for moderators to make announcements or highlight specific posts. It was not meant to circumvent organic voting, which r/the_donald does to slingshot posts into r/all, often in a manner that is antagonistic to the rest of the community.
Sure doesn't seem like it. Even if he meant all subreddits, the wording has already done the damage.
Sure doesn't seem like it. Even if he meant all subreddits, the wording has already done the damage.
I was talking about the /r/all filter, not that. I'll wait to see how much damage is done when more subreddits than the_donald rally behind the 'you're next!' mantra.
/r/The_Donald is a flaming garbage dump of a sub, but what the hell is going through Spez's head? Not only is specifically making rules targeting a single subreddit kind of fucked-up, but any targeting TOWARDS a specific subreddit is just going to rile them up even more. Not going for a reddit-wide sticky rule was a terrible choice. I don't know. I don't condone brigading, or doxxing, or blatant shitposting, but pushing to silence one of the very few right-positive areas on a site where even the supposed "neutral-politics" subs are 100% left-leaning feels kinda shitty to me.
It takes all of two seconds to filter another subreddit and see that it's not just affecting the_donald. [editline]30th November 2016[/editline]
https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/5fte99/first_they_came_for_us_is_your_community_next/
What a load of horse shit
We just want to have a seat at the table, the same seat as everyone else, without special rules or stipulations against us.
That's what you are getting. This hasn't been taken away from you. People can just choose to filter out your annoying, antagonizing stickies that you spam onto r/all.
We do not encourage harassment or violence or bullying of any kind.
Demonstrably false
No subreddit polices its own with such fervor as that of /r/The_Donald.
Thank god for that.
"Look at all these people who have done what plenty of people do, they just made the mistake of making it blatant"
We want you to know that we are also fighting for you.
Unless you have a dissenting opinion. /r/all filtering was long overdue

Targeted policing (in this case, sticky-exploit removal), however, is a terrible solution, no matter what sub it's about. It should have been a site-wide policy.

thank fuck /r/the_donald is filtered also they're complaining about how unstickying a thread doesn't make it visible on r/all, i think that's on purpose [editline]1st December 2016[/editline] nowhere NEAR all trump supporters are schmucks, i think most of them are pretty decent people /r/the_donald is literally fucking shit, though. same with hillaryforprison and enoughtrumpspam, just as bad, fuck
I assure you guys that if the /r/all algorithm was changed like this back in March for /r/SandersForPresident that Facepunch would be collectively shitting itself about how awful it is to target specifically one subreddit and yada yada. Buuuut it's for Trump, so everyone kind of just pretends like it's no big deal. Which is perfectly reasonable to complain about.
/r/sandersforpresident didn't abuse flaws in the /all algorithm [editline]1st December 2016[/editline] lets say neither abused and circumvented organic voting. id also filter sandersforpresident because i dont care to see politics on my /r/all. ive filtered all political subreddits

From what I can tell, and I could be wrong, but it seems like the sub /r/The_Donald was created purely for the fact that supposedly "neutral" discussion subs like /r/politics were so far left that they had nowhere else to go. It's a shame that it's become such an awful shitposting circlejerk, but you get what I mean?
ok that sucks then i thought it was just stickies, but if it's posts that are more popular than stickies also being filtered, that's nuts [editline]1st December 2016[/editline] is there a more civilised donald trump subreddit? i want to see it because fuck that'll be a breath of fresh air
Nope. You may have some luck at some of the Republican subreddits but really it's kinda interesting to see how much Trump material is downvoted outside of that single sub.
nope.
Great discussion you've brought to the table.
i agree with water-marine, it's very left in the other political subreddits but it'd be really nice to see a republican subreddit that isn't fucking insane
Just want to let everyone know I was banned from the Donald tonight for making a single four word comment that was relevant, but dissenting, to the discussion
Just want to let everyone know I was banned from the Donald tonight for making a single four word comment that was relevant, but dissenting, to the discussion
Well, yeah, it's a radically Pro-Trump subreddit. You'd get the same reaction posting dissension to /r/HillaryClinton. According to their rules, they have open-discussion sister-subs such as /r/askthe_donald.
It takes all of two seconds to filter another subreddit and see that it's not just affecting the_donald.
I started to mess up on the filter/modified sticky terminology. I don't care about the filter; That is fine and dandy. The sticky thing is the problem.
Honestly I just filtered out The_Donald and EnoughTrumpSpam and now it's like this election cycle never had the huge effect on reddit that it did.

Also they are in meltdown mode now.
Apparently their version of fighting "censorship" is with censorship. Also they are in meltdown mode now.
...I don't understand what you're getting at. It's fairly clearly mentioned in the sub's sidebar that it's purely a pro-trump area. They then proceed to list subs like /r/askthe_donald for political questions. Did some searching and there's another more popular sub called /r/asktrumpsupporters that serves a similar purpose. Both of which, and said sidebar rules, have existed before said censorship.
Anyone else max out their subreddit ignore list for no good reason
