Whats wrong with 2000? Its a solid and incredibly reliable OS.
Since XP came after it and XP was "good" then the completely factually accurate "pattern" shows us that it was actually shit.
none of them were bad, just not as good as 98, XP, 7 or 9 (potentially).
By that metric, every windows operating system has been terrible because the next iteration has been better.
2000, Vista and 8 are all good OS'es.
Vista's aero is ugly, that's all I remember about it.

Dear love of God I've waited this new to come out!
Vista wasn't too bad if you didn't have a cheap PC. It's mainly because MS forced OEMs to put Vista on shitty budget PCs that weren't nearly powerful enough to handle it's graphics that it was so badly received. I mean, there were other problems but the performance was the big one.
After it got SP2, it was essentially Windows 7 with a few missing features and a different skin. My friend thinks I'm full of shit and rides the Vista is a terrible OS train, but if you put your average computer illiterate in front of a Vista SP2 PC and W7 PC, they would seriously not be able to tell the difference.

They put users who didn't like Vista without any actual experience of it in front of Vista and told them it was a new pre-release OS and they all liked it. My brother still games on Windows Vista and has since it came out. He hasn't had a reason to switch to any other OS.
