Pin to your task bar.
Click once.
That should be a lot better for your buttfucking workflow. Get a nice icon pack, make them all look uniform, there you go. Nice design, and functional.
No, I hate pinning things to the taskbar. Like. I absolutely hate it. I unpin anything from it immediately. I use the desktop and Start Menu for programs, the taskbar is ungrouped so every single window has it's own tab on the taskbar.
One of the many reasons why I prefer Windows over Macintosh.
I see it the other way, there is no reason at all not to upgrade. It's faster and more responsive, you have a much more organized Task Manager with a better overview on what's going on, it's the newest platform ensuring you to keep up to date with any new technology anyone is throwing your way.
It's honest to god plain better and performs faster. Personally I find the people that don't upgrade to W8 to be of the same kind that didn't want to upgrade from XP. It's the "It's fine as it is" or "if it ain't broken don't fix it" attitude. But that's how I personally view it.
?
It costs money, and time. And also there's the UI, which is mostly a matter of preference.
And honestly what's the problem with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality? If my OS does everything I need it to do and isn't a security risk (because it's still supported and is getting patched regularly) what's wrong with that?
I really don't understand you Windows 7 luddies, this is far tidier and more attractive...

Than this tacky, glossy vestigiary which uses unwieldy nested directories.

Windows does a whole lot of dumb shit... I don't understand why anyone would put up with it.
Glass sits above your normal vision, you do have to look up and completely zone out to use it.
lol, no. you still have the rest of your peripheral vision and anything behind it
Windows wasn't designed to be worn and secondary to the world, it's an unfair comparison.
No, you are completely missing the point.
The actual effect of what's happening is the same. When you look at a screen your vision is dedicated and absorbed in what's happening on the screen and ignoring the surroundings.
The "world" is the screen. When you accidentally open a game and it has to load and you're stuck with a black screen or logos and you can't do fucking shit you get annoyed and frustrated because the previous experience, the desktop is now blocked off.
The same is it for me with the Start Screen. It replaces everything on the screen with the menu, forcing me to only interact with the start screen and nothing else. It's a "either you fucking use me, or you don't" kind of thing. It doesn't allow me to have it as an addition in the world I'm already in, instead it creates an entirely new world for me to be in.
a.k.a the menu just adds onto the vision, the screen blocks my vision.
i like os x where i can spotlight find anything without having to cover my entire screen
[t]http://u.cubeupload.com/chrishind10/Screenshot114.png[/t]
Would this have made you all happy?
No, XP is shit.
krunner is being upgraded for the next plasma version, and it's still better than the Start Menu (It's almost like Spotlight). Plasma Next looks like it's going to revamp it even further.
I don't think I could go back to using Windows for productivity, it's way too basic.
No, XP is shit.
only thing i liked in xp for a stupid reason was gif backgrounds. if win9 could allow gif or webm backgrounds that would be hella dope
Remind me how depth of field and focusing works... Your eye focuses on the foreground (glass) and the background (the real world) becomes a blur. You do not get both.
that's not how glass works but sure lol
only thing i liked in xp for a stupid reason was gif backgrounds. if win9 could allow gif or webm backgrounds that would be hella dope
why in the fuck would you want a gif as a background

It can cost money. Time? Seriously? Is that an argument? You can upgrade your W7 installation, it just replaces the OS and keeps all your programs and shit installed. It takes you less than an hour to upgrade. It takes you 3-4 hours to do a fresh install (just because of the hassle of installing everything again).
Whilst the UI is changed, it's barely actually changed, it's all pretty much the same, but yeah I can see that bugging some people. It bugged me until I got used to it and realized it was better (as tends to happen with most things for most people)
It's a mentality that supports being conservative, to deny progress and advancements. The only reason XP was supported for so goddamn long was because it would have been a giant security risk not to because people were so profusely decisive on not upgrading and businesses didn't want to upgrade (for a various good and bad reasons).

Just because it's a blur doesn't mean you don't see it. If a car comes driving straight at you, you will see that blurry shape that looks like a car coming towards you at a dangerous speed.

ffs windows 8 isn't that bad
but my sources say, at this point, that Windows Threshold is looking like it could be free to all Windows 8.1 Update, and maybe even Windows 7 Service Pack 1, users.
This would instantly win me over.
The one thing I'll say about W7 is it does look pretty dated at this point. I even installed a W8 skin because that's the only thing I like about it, best of both worlds.
only thing i liked in xp for a stupid reason was gif backgrounds. if win9 could allow gif or webm backgrounds that would be hella dope
XP also had GIF support for image viewer
you literally need to go third party /web browser for GIF
I don't understand. W8 works in the same way W7 does. You have all of the options in the control panel that you have in W7. It has all the same features (plus more of course) and it has the same old desktop functionality every Windows has had since 1995.
How exactly did W8 make anything convoluted for you?
Because it's NOT like the control panel in W7. It's all dumbified and makes things more of a pain to do.
The only issue I've had with Windows 8 is the lack of DirectDraw support. It makes some old games unplayable since they run at like 5-10 FPS. I understand that they have to stop supporting ancient legacy stuff eventually, but it would be nice if they could add directdraw hardware support back as a separate download or something.
unless windows 9 has some sort of amazing dealbreaker like turning my computer into a hovercraft i am not even gonna go near it
why in the fuck would you want a gif as a background
just purely as an option. it really shouldn't be too difficult to implement
Because it's NOT like the control panel in W7. It's all dumbified and makes things more of a pain to do.
Umm, it's EXACTLY the same control panel. It has the same views, categorized or small/big icons.

I, too, like options that I will never use.
unless windows 9 has some sort of amazing dealbreaker like turning my computer into a hovercraft i am not even gonna go near it
Eventually you'll have to because Win7 will stop being supported.
I, too, like options that I will never use.
i would probably use it on some occasions tbh, i have tried before
Umm, it's EXACTLY the same control panel. It has the same views, categorized or small/big icons.

I'm talking about using start to pull up the metro UI to do it. I honestly didn't know about that when I used W8, I used it like I used W7: searched for control panel item and used it
Halo 3 Windows 9 exclusive!
[sp]Pls no[/sp]
Eventually you'll have to because Win7 will stop being supported.
uh yeah thats kind of inevitable
Halo 3 Windows 9 exclusive!
[sp]Pls no[/sp]
fuuuck...
if the master chief collection was windows 9 exclusive
it would convince me to upgrade, i will totally admit
It's like windows 7 just faster.
It's the same exact shit. Just install Classic Shell and you have your start menu back and everything.
Also yes, all the hate for Windows 8 is based on misinformation and misunderstandings. It's just a straight up better version of Windows 7.
lol listen to yourself
"just download this unlicensed third party application that makes it exactly like the previous version and it'll be 100% better than the previous version!!!"
