if all the buttons were that big though I'm pretty sure you'd have no room
people prefer the start menu over metro because they have tons more to add to it. I didn't have that, so I liked metro better.
Paul, I have been using Windows 8 since release.
How odd. I've not experienced the start screen breaking my workflow.
But if you truly insist on this being a problem, I guess it's just a difference between people.

wow you must suck at counter strike
wow you must suck at counter strike
We need bigger hitboxes
How odd. I've experienced the start screen breaking my workflow.

Well of course it's a difference between people. It's just me arguing about why I personally dislike the Start Screen and why I prefer the Start Menu.
wow you must suck at counter strike
How does that denote that he sucks at counter strike?
Are you defying all logic and saying it's not easier to hit a big target?
Word of warning: I'm going to punch the first person who mentions the phrase "Windows Cycle".
Hope you have fun punching your monitor then.
wow you must suck at counter strike
no i just don't want to have to align my mouse in a 16 pixel high label when i want to open anything in the start menu and to navigate folder mazes
How does that denote that he sucks at counter strike?

Do you understand the concept of accuracy?

yeah, but with bigger icons come less space
look at the size of the start menu
it's 1/6th the screen and can hold the same amount of programs, if not hundreds more with dropmenus
for metro you need to scroll for more
I'm pretty sure that your image is BS because it comes down to preference
plus would the start menu even fit this many icons:

I remember bragging about using that on MSN messenger back when I was a wee one. The word 'teh' was involved.
yeah, but with bigger icons come less space
good thing it's full screen then!!
it's 1/6th the screen and can hold the same amount of programs, if not hundreds more with dropmenusfor metro you need to scroll for more
no i fucking don't, the tile screen fits all the shit i use and the all apps screen shows every single app i have
I'm pretty sure that your image is BS because it comes down to preference
how is a bigger target NOT easier to hit wtf
plus would the start menu even fit this many icons:
Yes, but it gets really tall. I would personally have used the Desktop for all of that except the "work" and "office" programs.
no i fucking don't, the tile screen fits all the shit i use and the all apps screen shows every single app i have
So does the start menu.
no i fucking don't, the tile screen fits all the shit i use and the all apps screen shows every single app i have
Good thing you don't have that many programs then, or else you would be fucked. I didn't have that issue but I did once I added icons for video games.
you can customize start menu and metro alike
So does the start menu.
can you fit 29 apps at the same time in it?
I've used Win8 for a while before ultimately switching back to Win7. You can get Win8 to function a lot like Win7 through a lot of tweaks and software but in the end all you end up with is a slightly shittier looking Win7 with compatibility issues. And anyone who says that Win8 is faster is heavily exaggerating, it's faster by such a miniscule amount in really specific ways it doesn't even matter.
can you fit 29 apps at the same time in it?
you can fit more so idk wtf you're on about

start vs metro is literally just based on "that looks better"

well you can still scroll through it
i just don't see how navigating tons of folders better than seeing it all at a glance with a little bit of scrolling
well you can still scroll through it

It's drop down menus, rather than folders, VS scrolling
it really comes down to what you like better
also windows 7 areo looks ugly as shit compared to w8 or classic
I'm super jelly of people that can run windows 8 without comparability issues
It's like windows 7 just faster.
It's the same exact shit. Just install Classic Shell and you have your start menu back and everything.
Also yes, all the hate for Windows 8 is based on misinformation and misunderstandings. It's just a straight up better version of Windows 7.
The fuck it is. The kernel is vastly different and games made before 2003 have all kinds of bullshit problems, even if they're fully dx9 compliant.
I really don't understand you Windows 7 luddies, this is far tidier and more attractive...
Some of us aren't running 80 gigs of windowblinds bullcrap and simply prefer to start USING the computer to work.
Also yes, all the hate for Windows 8 is based on misinformation and misunderstandings.
DX 7, 8, and 9 games factually documented to not be working correctly is not a misunderstanding of any sort.

i suppose
well in the end i'm arguing about fucking menus on the internet and the old start menu is coming back anyway
Why do these threads always turn into shit flinging contests. Some people like Metro, that's fine, some people hate metro, that's fine too.
Can't we all just agree that an option to use either the classic start menu or metro would be a good compromise for W9?

to be fair, a lot of windows xp programs and stuff don't work on 7 EITHER
and windows 8 simply needs to have support added

if I don't have metro in windows 9 I'm going to grump my way into third party programs and be super disappointed

Yes

Good thing we have Compatibility modes and people with solutions on the internet. You aren't honestly trying to say that Windows 7 runs old games flawlessly? Yeah sure W8 may have more/different problems with really old games, but that's just a sign of technological progress if anything. Get rid of that old junk that just piles up to have ancient support. The best solution has always been to just install a Virtual Machine with XP or W98 anyways, we're all just too lazy to bother.
1 program is 80 gigs worth of windowsblinds bullcrap? Huh, that's news to me.
People sure like to exaggerate when they hate things (I'm not an exception).

As much as I disagree with the Metro fullscreen, I hope it stays as an option (which would've been the solution since day 1, Microsoft, all the shit you wouldn't have had to take just by adding a fucking checkbox). I understand that you like it, and I wouldn't like you to be uncomfortable on W9, just as as I wouldn't like to be uncomfortable on W8.
Really, all of this could've been fixed so soon by giving users the choice, just like they already do with themes.
