Argentina invaded the Falklands because they thought we didn't want it, we took it back
Murican' here, what was the Falklands all about because they never taught it to us yet in High School.
Argentina wanted the Falklands, we wanted to keep the Falklands. The people on the Falklands wanted to remain as part of the Commonwealth IIRC.
Shit went down and Argentina took a lot of losses. I'm not sure but I think more people died on one ship we sank than we lost in the entire war.
Dubya.
He was re-elected twice.
Thatcher lasted about 50% longer than he did. Not to mention the Tories stayed in power after she left for another 6 years.

255 British servicemen died in the war and 655 Argentine
Well my Dad'll be pleased. I can't think of anyone else I know that hated Thatcher as much as he does. He's going to have a field day on Facebook arguing with Tories, that's for sure.
I remember once he was arguing with some guy about my age who arguged Thatcherism was the best thing that had happened to this country. If I remember correctly I think he shut him down with a "You were born in 1990, don't talk to me about something you weren't alive to see."
My mum's response is "Do you remember what '78 was like?"

Welp shows how much I know about the Falklands!
I should probably look it up. It's a war people know very little about.
I wonder if anyone ever asked her after her retirement how she felt about becoming one of the most hated politicians in British history. I actually really want to know how these politicians feel after that. Someone should interview Dubya and ask him, I think that asking a blunt question like that and seeing what response you get could be very interesting.

I doubt she cares, you wouldn't get that far in politics if you had your feelings hurt every time someone said they didn't like you

She called Mandela a terrorist.
She called Mandela a terrorist.
He was, he conspired to blow up a bus, his wife actually was a terrorist, just because his cause was good doesn't mean that his methods were.

But you never expect to become so hated after the fact. You know you can't please everyone, but you never expect so many people to despise you. As well, once you're out and no longer caring about re-election, it can give you some time to think and reflect about your past actions. It could provide some very unique insight into politics to do some interviews with politicians some 10-15 years after they retire, and ask them very blunt questions about their policies, their beliefs, and their feelings on public opinion towards them.
I think a lot of people are celebrating her death like she was awful to them, despite her having no effect on their lives, just to join the bandwagon.
Uncool.
Uh, she made a massive impact on most people's lives in Britain today, regardless if they were alive at the time.

She was hated by many but loved by many too, she didn't seem like the kind of person who regretted her actions
All I know about Thatcher was what Top Gear taught me, and that is that she was a vile, boring woman
She called Mandela a terrorist.

...in 1961 Mandela co-founded Umkhonto we Sizwe ("Spear of the Nation", abbreviated MK)...Operating through a cell structure, the MK agreed to acts of sabotage to exert maximum pressure on the government with minimum casualties, bombing military installations, power plants, telephone lines and transport links at night, when civilians were not present. Mandela noted that should these tactics fail, MK would resort to "guerilla warfare and terrorism."
That's the part of Mandela's life the schools like to leave out when they talk about his struggle against apartheid during Black History Month.

2 Type 42 Destroyers, HMS Sheffield and HMS Coventry were sunk, as were 2 Type 21 Frigates, HMS Ardent and HMS Antelope. Also lost was RFA Sir Galahad, a troop ship with the Welsh Guards embarked. I think a couple of other smaller vessels bought it as well, iirc.
(Easy to remember the Destroyers for me, those are the only two cities I've spent lots of time in)
The Falklands war was a very close run affair, we almost bollocksed it completely.
Anyway, RIP Marge, most of what you did seemed pretty on the level.
And so dies the iron maiden of Britain, another giant of the conservative 80s
Through some Wikipedia reading I ended up at the article about the Falklands Invasion - this is the actual correspondence between the Falklands and London after the invasion:
LON (London): HELLO THERE WHAT ARE ALL THESE RUMOURS WE HEAR THIS IS LON
FK (Falklands): WE HAVE LOTS OF NEW FRIENDS
LON: WHAT ABOUT INVASION RUMOURS
FK: THOSE ARE THE FRIENDS I WAS MEANING
LON: THEY HAVE LANDED
FK: ABSOLUTELY
LON: ARE YOU OPEN FOR TRAFFIC IE NORMAL TELEX SERVICE
FK: NO ORDERS ON THAT YET ONE MUST OBEY ORDERS
LON: WHOSE ORDERS
FK: THE NEW GOVERNORS
LON: ARGENTINA
FK: YES
LON: ARE THE ARGENTINIANS IN CONTROL
FK: YES YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH THOUSANDS OF TROOPS PLUS ENORMOUS NAVY SUPPORT WHEN YOU ARE ONLY 1600 STRONG. STAND BY.
I found it somewhat humorous.
Wow, FK was being pretty jokey considering they'd just been invaded.
