Shame. I was a fan.
Did she blow up buildings full of innocent people?
It was a joke, but you can do more damage from the inside
Can someone British explain to me an American what was bad about Margaret Thatcher.
Neoliberalism
I don't get why people that weren't even born when she was the prime minister are the ones spreading the hate.
lol you don't have to be born or have been directly effected by something/someone to dislike anything. By that logic you wouldn't be able to spread hate on nazis or something
You guys are acting like children. Though I should come to expect that here.
Im very surprised nobody has posted this song, Hell i only remembered it because of a facebook friend posting it.
It was a joke, but you can do more damage from the inside
I still can't see how celebrating her death is okay, especially when it's been two decades since she left office.
She shat on the working class. Sold off all the council houses so that working class families can't get decent housing these days and are forced to rent from Slumlords at high prices Sold off the Utility Companies to Private owners so that now pensioners freeze to death in winter because they can't afford the expensive fuel prices charged by these profit-hungry monstrosity companies. Stopped free school milk Poll Tax/Council Tax (making everyone pay a huge chunk of their income to the Local Authority in Tax with no regard as to their ability to pay this) Decimated our Heavy Industries costing millions of jobs - at the height of her power there were 3 million unemployed. Destroyed the Trade Unions, robbing the working man of the right to stand up for himself Turned this country from a place where people lived in strong communities with a sense of culture and heritage into a capitalist hellhole where everyone is laden with debt, morals and tradition has gone to the dogs and noone gives a sh*t about each other and only cares about credit cards and consumer crap. Maggie is the reason this country is in such a mess today.
She was also responsible for that horrific vegetable-oil ice cream.
lol you don't have to be born or have been directly effected by something/someone to dislike anything. By that logic you wouldn't be able to spread hate on nazis or something
I blame president Jefferson for our current economic and social issues.
hah. no
So none of these things happened?
So none of these things happened?
Re-Read the part I bolded and then check my response
I don't think there will be any tears shed on both sides of the border tonight in Ireland. She somehow managed to wrong both sides haha
Re-Read the part I bolded and then check my response
I didn't see your edit. Allow me to retort, She is one of the main reasons, maybe not THE reason. There's plenty of others.
Can someone British explain to me an American what was bad about Margaret Thatcher.
She realized that windows shouldn't be banned to prevent competition with candlemakers.
RIP Margaret Thatcher fuck the haters #YOLO
Jelly and ice cream though!
"#nowthatchersdead" It saddens me more that people misread this as the death of some stupid, vacuous musician.
She shat on the working class. 1. Working class families do not all live in council houses - part of the stock of council homes was sold off to the people that lived in them, if someone needed to live in one but there were none available they receive housing benefit instead. Exactly like they do today. 2. Except pensioners get hundreds of pounds worth of winter heating allowances - it was her view that the state should only run essentials like healthcare, things that private companies could not efficiently provide. Bearing in mind that this was a time that the state had a hand in everything. 3. No she didn't. She stopped it for over 8 year olds who weren't even drinking it, which was wasting millions of pounds. 4. Poll tax, also know as council tax, still stands to this day - 23 years later. 5. No, manufacturing increased while she was prime minster, it stagnated under labour from 1997 - 2010. Manufacturing was already a mess thanks to the unions and the inefficiency of management. 6. All the trade unions still exist and are still active - in the 80s they had a ridiculous amount of dominance and called strikes constantly to get more money for their members (more money for members = more money for the union leaders) 7. The UK was already a capitalist country, can you really link Margaret Thatcher to the loss of 'morals and tradition'?

It's a great pity that a lot of bad shit happened, but trust me mate, if you kept with the old labour policies, Britain would be rotting away like the Soviet Union.

I shall have a pint or 2 in honour of this glorious day.

I understand the 70's were shit, but she went way too far. The financial deregulation she introduced paved the way for the credit crunch, people didn't earn any more but could borrow more easily and the entire boom of the 90s/2000s was due to debt. (My basic understanding of why neoliberalism sucks, anyway). Also privitisation of everything which seems a bit pointless when water and electricity is exactly the same thing, regardless of the company.
Sold off all the council houses so that working class families can't get decent housing these days and are forced to rent from Slumlords at high prices
I remember at one point, the waiting time for a 3 bedroom council house in Westminster was 23 years. I'm not the biggest fan of hers.
Can someone British explain to me an American what was bad about Margaret Thatcher.
To make it breif she was one of Britain's more authortarian Prime Ministers who brought in some very unpopular policies (ie withdrawal of milk from schools, poll tax). She stayed in Parliament as long as she did because she spearheaded the Falklands which was a success with the press right in time for an election. She was a conservative and automaticaly unpopular with working classes - she closed down a lot of the mining industry in the north and didn't do much else meaning there was a mass amount of unemployment in the north throughout the 80s. She also made herself unpopular with Liverpool in particular by saying to the media that it wasn't a city.

She closed down heavy industries in England because they cost more than what they made though which a lot of people forget, she just had to take the flak for it.
I didn't agree with her politics either but she's a human being so let's not be complete animals about this whole affair
If she was so brilliant and doing such a good job, why did her own party remove her from power?
same reason politicians do anything, she was too powerful and becoming an obstacle to their own agendas
