The only thing I like that apple had created was the old iPods. Not the new ones with the touchscreen, but the old ones that had huge storage and had nice battery life. Now there's noone really making things like that anymore.
I wish they had stuck with ZIF drives only because then they would get more developed. I salvaged an 80gig 1.8" drive from a 5th gen ipod, literally the perfect size for a raspberry pi if you can get an interface for it.
On this subject, are refurbished Macbooks a good idea to buy since they're cheaper? I've been looking to get one for a while for a few reasons.

My friend had one, and had no problems up until when she sold it.
iPod classic had a hard drive which isn't great for jogging.
I sorta disagree actually. My 120 GB 6th Gen has no issues and I jog with it frequently. It just has to cache the songs to RAM and then the drive can spin down.
One day, maybe Apple products will have enough free stuff on it to make up for their comparatively expensive prices? They gave out a ton of free stuff today, not just Mavericks.
This on one partition, Windows 7 on another partition. I do my media, schoolwork, and music production on OSX, game on Windows. These little laptops are pretty bitchin' and i've always been die-hard Microsoft.

When I took my macbook in with a broken key the guy said if I bought it directly from Apple they would've just given me a new macbook.
One thing that i also like about Apple is how they are stuff is actually kinda 'new' for a change. I have never used any other operating system then Windows and sure there are more people like me who just wish to use Mac OS X for the sake that its something different.
I find it kinda funny that Microsoft did it first, though. Same with iwork being free on iOS devices - MS did it with RT, Apple does it with iOS. Not complaining, though.
Except overall they really didn't. Microsoft charging like $20 for Win8 to begin with was right out of Apple's playbook, before then the cheapest you could get Windows was like $150. Microsoft made 8.1 free but the entire basis of Microsoft's new strategy is what Apple has done for years. Also iWork is free on all devices now, that's a lot different than MS bundling their Office suite with their tablets(more like tablet since everyone has abandoned RT). Where's my free office 2013 for my PC so I'm not confined to just having a tablet version? Why don't I get that same office suite from my Surface on my Lumia 920? Again, it's really not the same thing at all, me getting Office for RT free isn't the same as giving me the full Office suite across everything I own with a Windows logo on it.

Windows 8 is arguably more "new" - or you could go with the plethora of Linux based OSs.

I agree though - it is quite refreshing to use a different OS from time to time once you become fairly fluent in both.

The "free annual" upgrade was done by Microsoft first, and the iWork offer is clearly aping office on RT whether it applies to all windows devices or not. I'd also argue that office is a much larger business for Microsoft than iWork is for apple, and arguably a more useful office suite - Apple already seels the hardware, so apple charging for software is a lot different from Microsoft charging for software. Second, I'm not going for that "omg apple is copying!!11", but rather a "clear market response". If you can't see that apple responded to what Microsoft is doing, I don't know what to say. Sadly, I don't.

I would love to try it but i simply don't have a thousand euro laying around. :v:

Any Apple product I do have has been kindly donated to me by my family members abroad who seem to buy these things on an almost bimonthly basis. :< I've been looking into getting one for a while (wanted to get that + a developer license to try out making small games for iOS in Unity, among other things), but my brother-in-law mentioned that refurbished ones would be my best bet. Judging by the responses I got about it from some of the nice folks in this thread, I'll definitely do a little more research on the exact model that would serve me well.
Where can one obtain a refurbished Mac Book?
On this subject, are refurbished Macbooks a good idea to buy since they're cheaper? Adorable little dude. Damn near credit card sized, save for thickness obviously. Favorite drive type.
some people i know have been flipping their shit over this because it's free, like it is some sort of crazy innovation. i think it's cool that they finally have a free update, but is it really that big of a deal?
I was actually looking forward for this update mainly for the better battery life and improved Safari. Plus I got Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for free.
On this subject, are refurbished Macbooks a good idea to buy since they're cheaper? I would install this right away if I could even create an apple id "Your session has timed out, please try again later."
