So why not just introduce the iPhone 6?
Because they released the 5 a year ago? Thats how Apple introduces its devices for years already. Every company has their own way.
I don't know why people are talking that much about "small upgrades" when it comes to Apple. Considering their previous GPU, this will be a good deal faster than even the Adreno 330 in the Snapdragon 800 or the SGX544 MP3 used in the SGS4 Exynos. The CPU should be plenty fast, maybe not as fast as the 800, but it should definitely rival the SGS4. If anything I'd upgrade the camera to higher pixel and maybe up the resolution of the screen, but those two perfunctory changes.
Most likely because Tim Cook and Apple should be trying to show that they aren't just riding on the success of the iPhone/iPod/etc and should actually be taking the product to the next level. While using the same form factor is convenient for Apple's marketplace, it really doesn't stand up to the plethora of cheaper Android phones available (which are also on a less restrictive OS).
Damn the gold 5S is sexy as fuck.
The A6 is 1.3 and the iPhone 5 runs like fucking butter, so smooth. Waving your penis over your quad core CPU doesn't help shit if the OS doesn't use it optimally.
1.3 my bad. Still a shitty upgrade. It'd less than a Ghz in extra processing power. And I've run both phones side by side (i5 to gs3 and i5 to gs4) the Galaxies win hands down. They're a much faster and smoother device. Not to mention they offer true 1080p HD screens and more RAM.
Meh. I'm happy with my 5.
I like the iPhone 5S but it's nothing big enough to make me switch from android. I feel like they're going both catch-up and innovation. I want to wait to see what they do with the 6. but you cant really compare that. Apple has the advantage of managing both the cpu and the os. with android since google makes the os and then other companies are left to put the cpu in the phone. The only thing they can do is fit a faster cpu to make it faster. Even though its a dual core Apple can optimize the os to hell and back and it can be faster or on par with any other phone.
...you do realize that since Android is open source every si gle manufacturer dedicates a programming team to optimizing the OS to their device's hardware right? Granted it isn't as perfect a mesh as iOS and AX processors but I'd rather pay $200 and ACTUALLY get an upgrade.
Meh. I'm happy with my 5.
I just got my 5 a week ago during a Best Buy promo, trade in a 4 or 4s and get the 5 for 50% off.
They already have. Microsoft and Motorola have both done them. Motorola had a fingerprint scanner on their Atrix smartphone for ATT. [editline]10th September 2013[/editline] I'm really disappointed by the hardware. The A7 chip is only 1.7ghz dual core. Fucks sake we've had quad core phone processors for a year now and they've only given the phone a 400MHz boost over the iPhone 5's dual core 1.5GHz. IMO the 5s should be $100 and the 5c should be $50. This is NOT worth the premium price point of a state of the art phone.
are you actually serious or are you trolling please don't tell me you're genuinely comparing the GHz and completely ignoring the 64-bit adressing and all the other ARMv59(iirc) upgrades over ARMv9 Some quad-core android phones don't even have the memory bandwidth to successfully run 4 threads at max load, nevermind that GHz numbers don't mean shit when the architecture is different enough(case in point: AMD having 1GHz more than intel yet getting their processors destroyed by intel, A6 chip keeping up with the samsung galaxy released after it when the latter isn't overclocked and the former is at 85% clock) [editline]i[/editline] You're like the PC elitists that compare the next generation consoles with the GHz of their 2009 pentiums and go "lol i have more gigahertz not next gen!"
I'm definitely going to get the 5S to replace my 4S. I've also been running iOS 7 beta for the entire duration and I've got to say it works so smooth, even on a 4S.
I like it, looks ten times better than the iPhone 5. The back of the iPhone 5 looked horrendous.
The fingerprint tech looks nice, but its still something that has existed in various forms before (I had the Microsoft fingerprint scanner ages and ages ago); it'll suck when Apple has patented the shit out of yet another thing that has already existed for a long time.
Already happened http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1218003
. The A7 chip is only 1.7ghz dual core. Fucks sake we've had quad core phone processors for a year now and they've only given the phone a 400MHz boost over the iPhone 5's dual core 1.5GHz.
You know that you are living in the future when people are not satisfied with a 1.7ghz dual core cpu in a phone.
I was expecting them to add optical image stabilisation to the camera. It's becoming fairly standard for flagships these days.
I just got my 5 a week ago during a Best Buy promo, trade in a 4 or 4s and get the 5 for 50% off.
Screw Best Buy. Radioshack has iPhone 5's for as little as $100 (I believe it's $99.99 for sprint and $149.99 for ATT/Verizon) with up to $100 off with an 8gb iPhone 4 trade in or up to $150 for a 16gb iPhone 4s. Those numbers are with cables and a working non-broken phone.
Already happened http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1218003
Doesn't surprise me at all. Even the software for fingerprint scanners back then was integrated with websites so you could logon using your finger.
Were you aware that this is the worst possible time to buy a new iPhone?
Yeah. But it doesn't matter since my iPhone 4 was having a few issues. So why bother keeping a phone that doesn't work properly when I can get a working one for half the price that's considerably better.
I might consider an iPhone for the first time ever if the 5C is priced stupidly in the UK like the rest of them have been

Contracts are just ways to pay for the phone over time and its never clear how much is actually going towards the hardware because any phone company can make its calls cost on paper whatever it wants to.
You know that you are living in the future when people are not satisfied with a 1.7ghz dual core cpu in a phone.
Look when I can pay $150 and get a phone with a processor that's twice as strong, twice as much ram, and an inch larger screen without a neutered OS I'm not gonna pay more for a crummier phone
-snip-
Radioshack wanted me to pay for a whole new plan to replace my current one which is pointless since it would remove my unlimited plan that I got grandfathered into keeping with AT&T.
Radioshack offers both plans for AT&T. The new and the original. We're supposed to offer the new plan but the old plan is still available. I doubt they were trying to force you to change.
I might consider an iPhone for the first time ever if the 5C is priced stupidly in the UK like the rest of them have been
The difference between the two in US price is like 550$ for the 5C 16GB and 650$ for the 5S 16GB when bought without a plan With a plan it's a bit more significant, and i expect the price difference to be bigger in the UK and europe(especially here where the new iphones cost around 1000-1100$ for the 16GB due to 58% taxes when importing electronics :suicide:)
i'm hoping the iPhone 5 is reduced in price when these are released.
Wow the camera can capture 120FPS at 720p, that's fairly impressive.
Those are all also contract prices; if you're going to talk prices of phones and hardware then talk hardware prices. So paying full price for the phone is retarded.

I doubt they were trying to force you to change.
They said getting a new phone would replace the plan, plus with Best Buy I went from a 16GB phone to a 32GB phone for a little over $100. much better deal
I've seen this somewhere before... [t]http://i.nokia.com/image/view/-/2003984/highRes/2/-/Lumia-620-Smart-Shoot.jpg[/t]

Sweet, I get to upgrade from a 3GS to a 4S for free now!
