Going to sound incredibly stupid by saying this but that is a construction elevator on the outside isn't it?
might not seem like anything special for the fpers who live close to NYC, but i got some pictures of it last year, i bet its gonna feel weird in a couple of decades, having pictures of a super iconic building while it was still being built

Yep.
The spire is kind of dumb but at the risk of sounding insensitive, it's downright beautiful when compared to the twin towers which were giant grey blocks of refined eyesorium. This one is a nice modern design with neat angles.
It's a botched design anyway, if you look into the history of the building's design, you'll find out it was way rushed by Bloomberg to help in his election; and they hired an inexperienced (in making FUNCTIONING buildings) architect, and once they found out the design would not be physically possible, they scraped it on really short notice. It went through a ton more designs each being made as quick as possible; and finally settling on this design because it looked OK; and would be easy to make physically sound.
Obligatory.

I'm going to New York in December, hopefully I'll be able to see this thing. Though AFAIK they'll only open observation decks in spring.
Reminds me of the time I was inside the famous "bottlecap opener" building in Shanghai

The politics around 911 are disgusting nationally and locally.
