no one's saying he can't say what he wants i mean if you felt like it, you could go around your local city and bash everyone's beliefs, but i mean should you?
No because the internet is one of the few places where you have the context and ability to say whatever the fuck you want especially because if it's something that offends somebody it's their choice if they look at it or not
I'm not in favour of banning free speech, except when it's an obvious incitement to violence
But... That is banning freedom of speech. As a person who is religious, I don't see the problem in his tweet (Maybe I'm not just religious enough.) It seems like Tim was looking up something to be offended by...
I'm thick skinned
Riiight.
it's like r/atheism has collapsed down into a single man
No because the internet is one of the few places where you have the context and ability to say whatever the fuck you want especially because if it's something that offends somebody it's their choice if they look at it or not
how am i supposed to know if im gonna be offended or not until i finish reading the message? i dunno where the whole "it's ok to be a massive tool because im on the internet" argument comes from, you're still a massive tool either way.
I'm starting to think r/atheism is a Christian conspiracy to create a generation of self-loathing atheists.

Obviously everyone knows that hurting people's feelings online makes you a massive tool, but not whining about it and posting pictures of awkward people in fedoras.
yes, let's keep making the joke that he's r/Atheism in a man or whatever because it's so clever He doesn't go out of his way to insult anyone. He doesn't take "offensive" stances. He's just blunt about his feelings on the matter. The people who argue with him, against him, and the people who hate him are far blunter and far worse than he ever has been. He's quite civil in his debates, and in his "proselytizing" for atheism, whether you think so or not. Where do we get the idea that you can't talk about religion or that there's too much respect to be paid to such beliefs for us to critique it and the people who believe it? What purpose does that actually serve? Civility? But that civility is senseless and causes an utter lack in critical thinking of ones spiritual life. Something that we should all want to do.
But it's still amazing how people feel that they can casually mock the spiritual and emotional convictions of others – including Tweeting directly at believers that God doesn't exist and they're either liars or idiots for saying so.
Will these evil Atheists ever stop their almost literal murder of our religion and feelings?!

It sounds so nice and calming He could make a great supervillain with that voice. Also, Wendy looks extremely creepy. Is she brainwashed?
Dawkins' antics are more embarrassing than they are offensive. The guy is 72 years old, he should know better.
I tip my fedora to you, master Dawkins
Euphoric. But seriously this is just dumb as fuck, every party involved is like a fucking 4 year old adamant that they're right and the others wrong. EUPHORIC
There are a lot of conflicting expectations in a lot of the replies... Most religious believers, In my experience, try to cram their beliefs down my throat. However, As soon as an Atheist tries to do the same, Everyone starts flipping shit. Don't get me wrong, As much as I am an Atheist, I think that having a belief system, Is a great idea, And keeps people going, All i am saying is that there are double standards.
EUPHORIC
haha good post i like it, did you think of the joke yourself?
If their faith is so strong why does it bother them so bad? Probably because deep down they know hes right. You can block someone on the internet but I have to wake up to chase the mormons off my doorstep.

And yeah, Where I live, People get mad when you don't believe in what they do :P
fair enough you're an atheist, but there's no need to be a prick about other peoples beliefs.
no, there's a pretty big need for it actually. religion is the most destructive thing on the planet and has been since the dawn of it's existence. publicly disproving idiotic religious beliefs is nothing short of philanthropy, because it is a contribution to the overall goal that one day people might stop being stupid enough to believe blatantly false myths that lead to the systematic corruption of earth's entire human civilization.

Are we still doing this "religion kills everyone, I swear it!" bullshit? Get the fuck over yourself mate, religion spoils fuck all, extremism does. Seriously just read that last line again and seriously tell me that it's accurate.
What's wrong with these tweets I don't think I've ever seen someone NOT say something about things they believe strongly in.

Religion and authority are a bad mix Any blind faith and authority is inherently a bad mix tbh [editline]29th July 2013[/editline] But what Bruhmis said is dumb
What's wrong with these tweets I don't think I've ever seen someone NOT say something about things they believe strongly in.
They're juvenile and play into every stereotype about Internet atheists there is. It'd be fine if they were written by a dumbass angsty 17-year old or something but Dawkins is a 72-year old man who is, in the eyes of many, THE representative of New Atheism and he should conduct himself accordingly. This isn't Dawkins making strong, concise statements on something he feels strongly about. It's Dawkins being a petulant, emotionally stunted goof. As I said, posting "epic atheist zingers" on Twitter is more embarrassing than it is offensive.
