Shame they decided to focus on melee combat. The "it's a tourist island so there aren't guns" argument doesn't really work when you counter with the simple "it isn't the middle ages, there aren't a lot of melee weapons nor are people conditioned physically for their use or trained to employ them" You can beat someone an awful lot with a pipe or a 2x4 before you manage to physically prevent them from moving or destroy their central nervous system. Skull was designed to protect against blunt force trauma.
The devs haven't said that there aren't going to be any guns, just that they're going to be very rare, and ammo for those will be even more rare. And what's wrong with first person melee combat? Condemned Criminal Origins had some pretty kicking rad and the most visceral melee combat seen in an FPS thus far, if the devs can pull something like that off I think we've got a winner. Alright there's the physical conditioning argument you've put up there but then it's kinda a game you know?
That trailer had balls when forwarded
THe IGN breakdown explains alot too i cryed at this - cant wait for this game [editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
Use Steamworks please.
i hope it does
Not as fast as you might think. And even once you do, you still have to hit the most well protected portion of the entire skull (when your opponent is facing you). They brought up logic first. I'm pointing out that it is heavily flawed logic. More flawed than firearms on a tourist island. Basically if there is a zombie outbreak and you don't have firearms, grabbing a melee weapon would just get you killed.
1. You are overthinking, it's a game. 2. You don't seem very smart. Honestly, your logic fucking sucks.
I found the trailer to be distasteful
I'm sorry but in a zombie apocalypse children aren't exempt from dying
Children are probaly the scariest among the zombies in real life
Children are probaly the scariest among the zombies in real life
Why? I never got this "creepy children", especially girls fad. They don't look creepy or scary at all. Sure they would be more dangerous because they're small, but not scary at all.
You guys are overreacting to this trailer, it really is pretty boring. [editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
Uh if you are smart with a melee weapon you won't get killed. Its like that right now too. If a group of like 10 guys are trying to mug you and you have a knife you can fight them off.
So what? Muggers would only be beatable in real life if you had a knife because they'd be scared to run at you out of fear of being stabbed. Zombies don't have that fear
Why? I never got this "creepy children", especially girls fad. They don't look creepy or scary at all. Little girls aren't supposed to be monsters, they're just supposed to be kids
dead rising is a sandbox game that has a story, it even has zombies to boot, so i don't see how this game having a story is a huge shocker. not saying the game doesn't look great just saying of all things that should really not be the highlight.
Because zombie games that actually feature stories on the background of the infection and such are rare. Games like L4D have no story other than just "ur a survivor, survive!"
That trailer was fucking SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD :saddowns: [editline]19th February 2011[/editline] Oh, the game looks really really good.
I don't understand why everyone was saying the trailer was sad... It was badass IMO.
It represents a corruption of innocence that's not natural. And that's why it's scary. Little girls aren't supposed to be monsters, they're just supposed to be kids
The entire theme that we're supposed to be sorry for kids was ruined when FEAR was released.
There's also the argument to be made that these are civilians, so if they found a gun, they would most likely be unfamiliar with its use. They'd waste large amounts of ammo and score few hits. They wouldn't have the knowledge to clear jams or anything. Basically, they'd be fucked. They'd burn all their ammo quickly, or ruin the guns, or shoot their allies because they can't control the gun. So, care to bitch about the melee now? I'm sure more civilians can safely and capably swing an axe than can use a gun. [editline]19th February 2011[/editline] Sure, you could make the argument that "Ohh, they may be gun owners, police officers, or at least been to a gun range." But by that string, they could be professional league baseball players, firefighters, and construction workers.
I don't understand why everyone was saying the trailer was sad... It was badass IMO.
A man just threw his zombified daughter out a window and had his wife devoured by undead.
Except undead corpses don't feel pain
The flaming zombie at the beginning sure doesn't seem thrilled to be on fire. I feel like that argument is only valid in certain zombie canons.
My god that Trailer was good. I really hope this game will be as good as this trailer.

Like when the fat one got hit in the neck by the axe he kind of recoiled then pulled it out.
Release the game now ! been waiting since it was announced first time
hey guys hey guys it was a cgi trailer that was constructed with the purpose of being sad, you have no way of knowing if the game is sad good trailers =/= good game
Doesn't mean we can't be excited about the expected features and be sad about the trailer we already have. Go away, don't ruin our fun
Hang on I'm just going to cry
i love everything about this so far [editline]20th February 2011[/editline] ungghhh cant wait to play this
The end of the trailer makes me cry
The end of the trailer makes me cry
I laughed when the little girl started falling up.

But by that string, they could be professional league baseball players, firefighters, and construction workers.
I expect anyone could get the hang of using a simplistic weapon like an M9, a Makarov, or an AK and any weapons that operate in similar fashions, as long as they know which end to point at what they want to kill at least. Someone with that little of a clue would probably start fiddling with everything they could out of desperation if they picked it up and it didn't fire as soon as they pulled the trigger. Eventually they'd flip the safety or chamber a round, unless they get killed. In which case it's there for the next guy to have a go with, process repeating until someone relatively competent with firearms finds it. And I don't understand what this argument is about. If you're on about the player character(s), just say they were an ex cop, weekend warrior, whatever would give them some firearms knowledge. If you're on about women/children I see where you're coming from but likelihood is they are or are with somebody who knows how to use a firearm, ie a man. Knowledge for firearms usage is hard-wired into men.
