Those annoying Windows 10 upgrade notifications will finally go away for good
Nah, still sticking with 8.1. I did actually try 10 once but went back to 8.1 because some of my older hardware and software I have just did not work properly with it, and on top of that I actually found it harder to use. And honestly, I do not get why people act like 8.1 is the worst thing, other than the start menu the UI is no different from 7.
Windows XP Syndrome
Windows XP Syndrome
Personally I've had a couple of issues on my laptop with Windows 10, and honestly I'd rather wait for the early bugs to be ironed out before upgrading. Windows 8.1 has been really stable for me (and I never minded the start screen), I prefer the Windows 8.1 version of OneDrive (as basically anyone would, really) but I'll upgrade before the 29th simply because it's the future proof thing to do, and I want to see where Windows 10 goes.

I was talking more about the people on 7 who don't want to upgrade because "I don't have any issues with it" and won't upgrade even once it stops getting security patches.
What do you need that you don't get in the Pro edition?
"Full" control over the system.
Yeah I'm still kinda doubting upgrading to 10 all my hardware is old...

I hate it when people say this. Did you completely miss the part I said about hardware/software compatibility?
There is no doubt I will upgrade when the time comes that 8.1 is no longer supported at all, but for now I want to make use of the hardware and software I already have, rather than let it all go to waste just because the OS was upgraded.

Sorry I was referring to
" And honestly, I do not get why people act like 8.1 is the worst thing, other than the start menu the UI is no different from 7."
Should have been more specific
you could just put w10 on a tiny 10gb partition you never use before the upgrade period ends.
Jokes on them
The nagware updates were never installed on my PC
Windows 7 ftw

Jokes on you you'll have to upgrade later on anyways.
I still haven't received a single notification, I tried installing it my self but it fails every time, it just wasn't to be I guess :(
Jokes on you you'll have to upgrade later on anyways.
And what will make me do this?
Are they going to barge into my home, put a disk into my computer, install the OS, and steal over a hundred dollars from me?
No?
Then I'm not upgrading.
they kind of did with the whole Hardware upgrades. you have to have Windows 10 to be able to use a new CPU?
that's a course assuming that they could get manufacturers on board with that scheme which I doubt because that would severely cut into how much product you're selling.
This is just a common misunderstanding, though.
Microsoft will simply just not optimize their old operating systems for new hardware.
You know, in the same way that you can run Windows 95 on a Core 2 Quad or Athlon II X4 CPU, no problem, but the OS won't be able to fully utilize any of those processors
I.E, nothing's changed
Outside of possible hardware and software issues (of which I've had none), I really don't see any reasons to not upgrade to Windows 10.
The whole "Microsoft botnet" (which is horribly mislabeled) argument doesn't really fly, because every Windows OS that communicates with MS is essentially a "Microsoft botnet", and that includes Windows 7. And you can disable a lot of the tracking stuff in the OS anyway. And if you're so worried about "botnets", why are you using Windows in the first place? Hell, why are you on the internet?
It just seems like a lot of people who don't want to switch were swayed by the overblown "horror stories" of Windows 10 upgrades killing their computers in the very early days.
The only things I don't like about Windows 10 right now is Cortana being forced to use Bing (who the fuck uses Cortana anyway), and the whole UWA/UWP system not being as open as Win32 (which MS is hopefully going to be addressing with an update this month).
Why would you want to stick with Windows 8.1 it's like Windows 10 with a shittier UI.
hmmm yeah why would you want to use an OS that still has vestige's of when microsoft gave a shit about desktop operating systems over one that constantly sends your data to a bunch of different places just so you can view the weather in the start menu
give me a fuckin' break lmao, i don't like the tin-foil hat win10 haters but also try not to drink the kool-aid

Enjoy your security breaches when support ends then.
Enjoy your security breaches when support ends then.
yeah......in 2020.
people say this shit as if it's ~impossible~ to get updates after support ends. Win98 support stopped in 2006 and there are still yearly releases of the Unofficial Service Pack 3 for Windows 98. christ. fuck outta here with this dumb "enjoy the viruses!!!!!" shit. makes you sound like you don't know the first thing about what you're talking about

Well, Kaby Lake and Zen is apparently not going to be supported (at least I'm reading it as "Won't work", and not "some features will not be supported" - but maybe I'm wrong) on anything older than Windows 10, so upgrading your hardware would mean either getting 10 or a linux distro. Also, Windows 7 will EOL completely in 2020, and no matter what you think of 10 (or whatever it'll be then), it's dumb running without security patches.

Well I meant the upgrade later loosely :v:
Also I totally forgot about unofficial service packs, damn that's some dedication.
I wonder what kind of software you're using that can't be updated or replaced. Games from up to 15 years ago were my concern but they seem to work as well as they did on 7, and older ones can be emulated.
Unless you really rely on some obscure programs that aren't updated anymore, w10 is a direct upgrade. Everything's just smoother and better.
Hardware incompatibility could be an issue if you're using ancient components and can't upgrade for some reason, I can understand that.
there is a lot of software out there that will not work on Windows 10 mostly for large companies that's why they won't upgrade to the new windows platform. soyo Windows 10 is only really good for a residential household

that's what I was looking for I can't remember what it had to do with it but thank you for finding that

If they really want my database of porn and save game files?
the only entities that need to worry about this or people that do a large amount of banking on their personal computer and large corporations. for the average fuck just do a fresh wipe and who gives a shit.
in this day and age if you can't backup your data then you your Fucked right out the door.
I've got two hard drives, one with 7 installed and one with 10.
Give this random individual a cookie! in the end what does it matter what OS you're running on your computer? for people who are Skilled with PCs multiple OS is on one hard drive is very easy to implement
i installed windows 10, and when i tried getting my internet adapter to work, it would freeze up.
What should I do to get the windows 10 for as cheap to be? I have an old broken copy of 8 with no updatability, and I need to upgrade for the vive. Should I purchase a windows 8 key?
I will happily purchase it when the time comes to upgrade.
Out of curiosity, is there a way I can, like, dual-boot Windows 10, but still be able to access programs installed on my Windows 7 partition?
I have a few programs that are no longer supported that are fairly critical to some work I do, and I've heard mixed reports of how these programs behave in Windows 10. It's the only thing holding me back from upgrading.
"dumb viruses shit" -- you're going to get malware for using an out of date OS much more frequently, updates are going to be far and far between for an OS they aren't focusing on.
I wish people would list off things that had hardware/software compat issues so Microsoft and community could help fix it.

You can always try upgrading then revert if all goes sideways.
worst part about upgrading is if you're not on a fresh install of 7/8 you're going to have a fuckload of issues
worst part about upgrading is if you're not on a fresh install of 7/8 you're going to have a fuckload of issues
I must be in the minority that had none.
I must be in the minority that had none.
My guess is that most people actually have very few problems, but of course it's all guesses. I know quite a few people who have upgraded with no help from me or any other computer literate person, and they haven't had any problems.
Eh windows 10 isnt tht bad, it takes some time to getting used to but yiu get used to it
I've had Win10 for like half a year now. It's literally 7 but better.
I upgraded when I got an SSD, I don't regret it for a second.
