Those annoying Windows 10 upgrade notifications will finally go away for good

I got viruses somehow on windows 10 too, so people really need to stop with the "security holes" bullcrap.
The real reason you need to upgrade to windows 10 is to keep with the new tech like dx12 i guess.

What is with this weird stubbornness that everyone seems to have in regards to not upgrading to Windows 10? Is it just because you don't like that you're being told to change and would rather have come to the conclusion on your own?
Fucking shit. I'd upgrade, but I'm not getting the upgrade notice since I have updates disabled/windows genuine is going off ever since I migrated my hard drive to my new PC
fuckinnnnnnnnn whatever
I never had GWX nagging because I specifically spotted the update that had it and just chose to never install it :smug:
I'll upgrade to/buy 10 when I really need to; AKA when I build a new computer again, which will definitely happen before Windows 7's extended support ends. Price doesn't bug me really.
New Forza is DirectX 12. So finally something worth playing is using a "Windows 10 feature"
Windows update rolled out spy patches for 7 and 8.1 ages ago
not as important updates, only as recommended updates, and literally anybody who cares about that sort of thing saw it coming because it didn't happen until a few months or so after 10 went RTM
Windows update rolled out spy patches for 7 and 8.1 ages ago
You mean updates that checked for admin access for applications that worked on the low level, that's Microsoft's way of checking what malware use
And other updates for a very long standing Customer Experience program, something of which I believe not many people here actually care about
If you attend a uni you might be able to generate windows 10 keys for free. I got 5 windows 10 keys, 2 w8s and one 8.1 that way. Its not an issue.

Those will be an issue after they expire
So this made me decide to finally upgrade, after nearly a year, so far i've had no problems with my drivers, which is what I was most worried about.
Those will be an issue after they expire
Expire?
I'm still running keys for years
[editline]7th May 2016[/editline]
Just lookever over the onthehub,
keys only expire if they are a timed licence, like if they offered a one year access to a product
like how autodesk did (still do?) have one year free access for students
Operating system keys don't expire
although you won't be able to retrieve keys if your account is removed from the system
they are sent to your email though, usually paired with the school's system as the school manages the student accounts
what's with this spiteful attitude towards users still on windows 7
"yeah it doesn't matter if you're on 7 now you'll have to upgrade anyway"
"stupid windows 7 users you should accept that windows 10 is better!"
"windows 7 won't get updates, enjoy all your viruses and malware!!"
why is there such a vested interested in getting windows 7 users to update, both from microsoft and seemingly from the windows 10 community??

because the users in question tend to act as if they're so smart and above the sheep for not upgrading

while i really don't see that why does that matter
can't you just ignore them and be happy about your own decisions
how come we need to have an us vs them thing about bloody operating systems

because these people are choosing to have a conversation.
who cares what you have to say about the conversations other people choose to have

half the time, these people don't choose to have a conversation. what they're choosing to have is a rabid argument filled with hostility and snarky epic snipes.
this thread may not be the best example of it, but it's so weird seeing any news about windows 10 attached to an argument that no one really needs to have

The important thing is you're above it all
You can always upgrade and then downgrade, that way you at least have a 10 key just in case. I thought I'd hate 10 but it's honestly pretty okay once you tweak it a bit.
How exactly does that work?
Windows update rolled out spy patches for 7 and 8.1 ages ago
Technically, Windows has been "spying" on you since Windows 2000. It wasn't until 10 that Microsoft had to let people know that Windows will collect information such as crashes, and submit them automatically to Microsoft to help improve the system, user experience, etc.
How exactly does that work?
like this but there's a button for it

replace build with Revert Windows to whatever
it's the same system pretty much

Just reactivate your license? It takes like five minutes through their automated service.
Just reactivate your license? It takes like five minutes through their automated service.
took me ten minutes
but that's pretty good because it was nine thirty at night, really good for after hours support
Used my hard drive on someone else's machine, so it was a justified cause
The important thing is you're above it all
The important thing is the epic snipes
I'm thinking about upgrading (mostly due to DX12), but since I love playing a lot of older games compatibility problems are a huge no-no for me.
So for all of you who upgraded, have you experienced any major compatibility issues thus far?

I have no problems admitting that. I don't like it when the computer tells me what to do and windows 10 was the final straw for me.
Technically I think windows 10 is better and all that. Switching to Linux I'd rather run windows 10 in a vm or dual boot for my increasingly rare windows needs than windows 7.

this post rang a bell
I wonder what kind of software you're using that can't be updated or replaced. Games from up to 15 years ago were my concern but they seem to work as well as they did on 7, and older ones can be emulated.
Unless you really rely on some obscure programs that aren't updated anymore, w10 is a direct upgrade. Everything's just smoother and better.
Hardware incompatibility could be an issue if you're using ancient components and can't upgrade for some reason, I can understand that.
I've never had an invite to upgrade to 10 :frown:
I've never had an invite to upgrade to 10 :frown:
If you're if at all interested
Download the iso, and use the CD key for your current installation
if you don't have the key anymore, based nirsoft have a program for that
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
I must be in the minority that had none.
Most people I've seen who did this had issues in the long run, including myself, but didn't have any on a fresh install or update from 7/8
though, could just be those around me having those issues
I'll stick with Win 7 rather than something that belongs on a tablet, thanks
