Enjoy your security breaches when support ends then.
im a staunch supporter of the win10 transition myself, but lets be honest, how often will an average user get security breached on a legacy system?
heck, ive seen a couple of people still using windows xp and they seem alright
I got viruses somehow on windows 10 too, so people really need to stop with the "security holes" bullcrap.
The real reason you need to upgrade to windows 10 is to keep with the new tech like dx12 i guess.
windows 10 isn't flawlessly perfectly secure, no one implied it was either. But when it comes to security holes, running lets say, XP, is way the hell less safe than running 7 or above.
how do we know it isn't your fault too? It might not be, but for all we know you could be running a 2008 copy of avg and downloading broken linux distro's and sketchy music software, or are simply not properly securing your stuff?
I'm thinking about upgrading (mostly due to DX12), but since I love playing a lot of older games compatibility problems are a huge no-no for me.
So for all of you who upgraded, have you experienced any major compatibility issues thus far?
Oldest game I've played on it would be Fallout 1, which after choosing to run it with the correct color settings has been working fine. Also been playing some early 3d games, those have been fine (Deus Ex, Warcraft 3), literally no backwards compatibility with any early 3d game that used old DirectX or OpenGL at least.

I can run unreal gold / ut 99 / Deus Ex just fine on w10, I can even run them over 1080 with different drivers
Personally I've had a couple of issues on my laptop with Windows 10, and honestly I'd rather wait for the early bugs to be ironed out before upgrading. Windows 8.1 has been really stable for me (and I never minded the start screen), I prefer the Windows 8.1 version of OneDrive (as basically anyone would, really) but I'll upgrade before the 29th simply because it's the future proof thing to do, and I want to see where Windows 10 goes.
Windows 10 Just fucking hated using my laptops SD card and ethernet port for some reason.
I really want to upgrade to w10 because shit is starting to get wonky on my w8.1 install (mostly waking up from sleep bugs), but I'm deathly afraid that doing so will break the editing tools I am doing for a major portfolio project this summer that cannot be delayed by having to reinstall my OS and everything, or worse some how corrupting my project and having to revert to an older build

Windows 10 has a function to automatically revert back to your previous OS with all files in tact

Hardware acceleration for Directdraw has been gone since Windows 8. Games that use it still work, but just much slower, which depending on the game can make it pretty much unplayable. Swat 3 for example runs at a very "cinematic" framerate of 10 FPS for me. A lot of games on GOG that have no compatibility flag for Windows 8 or higher use directdraw.
I WANT to upgrade... but I can't as half the older software I use for development will break.

Maybe you need some custom drivers.

Good to know
I guess as long as I backup my entire project online even if I have to reinstall it's as easy as a drag and drop
because I could smell Microsoft's desperation. they've been trying for a while to shove this f****** OS down your goddamn throat
did you just censor fucking but not goddamn
:speechless:

I have voice recognition software on my phone it automatically does this.
and your comment has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.....

Could you not run it in a VM with host GPU access? Are there no alternate renderers available like the older UT games and UE based games?
The hit from virtualisation shouldn't be too bad if you're running hardware from this decade.
If I have an unused w10 key and I upgrade my pc after june 19 will it allow me to put in my already bought key
I work in IT support and I hate Windows 10. The amount of people coming in with either fucked up Start Menus or a broken Win 10 settings menu is ridiculous. Usually the only way to fix it has been to restore windows.
Also, the search is horribly broken. Why does clicking on a search result in a folder and then clicking up directory bring you back to the search results? Why does typing the same thing into the Start Menu search bring up different things multiple times? Why is searching anything on windows 10 so fucking SLOW? I really don't understand why everyone is sucking Microsoft's dick on this one. Fuck Windows 10. I'll be sticking with 8.1 with Startisback for the foreseeable future.

Windows 8 and 7 both do the same thing. And you can speed up the search by indexing folders. You ought to know this working in IT.
I was really into Windows 10 (aside from the spying, but I'm not gonna pretend 7 doesn't do it too) until it decided restarting in the middle of late-night video processing/3D printing/batch jobs etc was a good idea. I have to fucking keep tabs on when updates are scheduled and making sure they actually happen soon enough just so it doesn't arbitrarly decide to ruin my work and waste my time and/or money.
Like if they just added an option to turn off fucking nanny-mode I'd be all for Windows 10, but fuck me right?
I've only had one issue and thats for a game thats 10 years old. Which was solved by downloading a DLL.

Redstone uses an Active Hours timer, and will update when not in active hours
however, currently they limited it to ten hours (........ yes on purpose the fuck)
feedback was flooded with that to be improved
