So thats it? I got all my shit ready to hike up a snowy mountain just to be dick slapped by the suns shenanigans.
I was going to get a free trip to a space observatory through my ISRO relatives to see this. ;_; Fuck you sun!

But no, there will be no illumination from it and you won't be able to see it in the night sky.
Holy shit [editline]28th November 2013[/editline] ISON YOU ARE LIKE A PHOENIX BUT WITH ICE

it's like our lord and savior has been resurrected again amen
quick, fund a missile filled with water to make it big again
ISON YOU ARE LIKE A PHOENIX BUT WITH ICE
In the NASA stream earlier one of the questions was "Is it just a myth that comets are giant balls of fire?"
Rise ISON! RISE!

So how big is it now? Half its original size?
If it's only a small fragment does that mean it won't be visible to the naked eye?
It's most likely just a trail of debris that will fall apart and fade out over a couple of days.
I'm not that great with photoshop but you get the point
So how big is it now? Half its original size?
We don't really know.
If it's only a small fragment does that mean it won't be visible to the naked eye?
Right now, nobody really knows. And how bright it will be is even more of a mystery. There's a lot of unknowns at right now, if a part of the nucleus did indeed survive we might see it, and we might not. What we do know is that there is a lot to learn from this, which is awesome, because I don't think a lot of people expected it to survive after it appeared to break up, and science is a lot about finding unexpected things and trying to figure out why it did what it did, so this is actually really cool.
