I actually accidentally squished one between my fingers yesterday and proceeded to give a good wiff.
It's... An odd smell, it wasn't particularly [I]bad[/I] in the sense of it being rank, but it was certainly intense. The closest thing I could compare it to (since I don't remember the specific smell itself) is it was sorta like awful smelling furniture cleaner (that sorta quick, sharp smell that stings the nostrils.)
I get these things every so often. I think they're sort of cute, but every fall we get loads of these little red and black bugs invading our house.
