congrats you have bought the narrative that's been being pushed since the 60's to delegitimize civil disobedience in any context
SPARTANS!

Police have the right to defend themselves. It's sort of dumb how they antagonised the police by throwing object at them and knowingly breaking the law and then complained when someone was injured.

inb4 "He wasnt the one that threw it though!"
Isn't that the entire point of a protest?
we have no rights as americans anymore

Um no, these people are just honest to god fucktards.
If anything the Occupy idiots are going to make things worse for everyone (or the "99%") by not knowing how to properly protest.
These guys should go and occupy mcdonalds.

and the police are making things worse for everyone when they constantly abuse their power.

How is retaliating to physical violence 'abuse of their power'?

By April 19 of last year, they'd gotten millions of applications, while they could only hire 50k people.
Before you start saying "They should just do this and do that", it's not fucking black and white. There are so many problems in this country right now, which is why it's so damn hard to get a job. I've been trying for two years and just last week FINALLY got a job.
There are protocols on when and how to retaliate with violence. In many cases, what would be a normal amount of retaliatory violence is turned controversial by a few bastards in teh force who take things too far, such as the way-too-tight handcuffs in Occupy LA that permanently damaged some people's wrists, and that Iraq veteran who got hospitalized, etc.
Don't generalize the protesters as a bunch of jobless hipsters who are lazy.
Don't generalize the cops as a bunch of assholes.
Good about time the protesters grew some balls. I said this 1000 times, nothing will happen unless things get violent on a large scale.

They mostly have jobs, but that does not guarantee that they can pay for what they need in life.
I remember seeing someone yell GET A JOB, and a protester responding "I HAVE TWO BUT I STILL CANT PAY MY MEDICAL BILLS"
Can't wait for more "oh its a police state!!!!!!" or "police are fucking horrible!!!!!!!" from the protestors.
Man, the police over there are really badly geared up for riots, no shields or water cannons, just gas, brute force and plastic bullets, no wonder there's that many injured protesters and claims of brutality, the police can't really do anything else.

Non-violent protest may or may not actually accomplish anything productive, but violent protest will most certainly result in people being hurt and perhaps even killed.
This isn't a third world country, there are much better options then the use of violence to protest.

Welcome to wonderful world of Funding cuts.

The protesters were responding to the police illegally cracking down on them.

How was it illegal if they were served removal notices?

right to assembly?
right to assembly?
Citys can regulate where and when protest takes place. This also goes for any other large type of assembly. Its not illegal in the least bit.
it infringes on the right to assembly

The point still stands, regardless of the place where they work. No places are hiring anymore because ALL of our manufacturing has gone overseas. Yeah, there are still restaurants, but if you've read the article, you'd understand just why they can't pay employees better wages.
This puts people in a tough spot. Either go to school and get an education, but rack up $100K+ in debt, or work 2 or 3 low end jobs just to scrape by. It's disgusting how bad it's gotten, but our politicians seem too caught up in the fact that corporations are pulling in record profits.
it infringes on the right to assembly

(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and to freedom of association with others, including the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests.
(2) No restrictions shall be placed on the exercise of these rights other than such as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.
Not sure how it is in the USA, but here people staying in one place too long interrupts cleaning procedures and therefore becomes a health hazard as well as an annoyance.

In the US it differs from state to state. Generally, before you organize a protest you should check in with the local government so everything is in order and the police don't overreact because the protest will be expected. If a large group of people pops up out of no where and starts shouting and demanding things it would be a police chief's nightmare because they could see it as a riot waiting to happen.
We are the 9- wait what?
You see, the police is always right.
