I'm really tired of them releasing statements that basically don't mean anything. When you don't show any hard proof, don't say anything. Their a complete joke at this point.

It'd be self inflicted, they're the first to go public with the report, not the allegations, which means they could pretty get the blame almost completely unilaterally if this turns out to be completely fake.

Allow me to introduce you to the concept of plausible deniability. The intelligence agencies of the United States, and to no lesser extent the politicians reporting on their reports deliberately choose their words as to never directly confirm nor deny anything to avoid potential future repercussions, the people who actually give the strong confirms or denials are in the end the ones liable for said repercussions, AKA, they're the 'fall guys'. It is quite literally part of the CIA's handbook, it's how they operate.
If 4chan actually made this whole thing up they should probably go into writing the next great american novel.
