Too bad cops arrive after the robbery takes place. You have about a minute tops to protect your life. Don't want to shoot an intruder? Have fun dying.
Did you even read my post? Taking someone's life takes lots of balls, you need the motivation for that. Lack of motivation means no murder.

I am not talking about you, I am talking about him, the intruder. He is not going to kill you without motivation. I am complaining about that everyone here assumes that intruder in your house equals with someone who wants to kill you.

If he's armed us humans will see it as sign of violence, shouldn't have brought it with him if he isn't planning on using it anyway.
My family owns no guns besides Nerf guns and one airsoft pistol. I guess I'm going to have to carry a crowbar around and go Gordon Freeman on people if they break-in.
I find it incredibly sad that there are people in this world backwards enough to simply let somebody break into their home and do whatever they want. Criminals have abandoned the law. Criminals have abandoned reason. Criminals have abandoned morality. Defense of one's self and their loved ones is the most fundamental right of every human being, after being able to legitimately care for one's needs. Anybody who would deny you that right is beyond help.
Parents always said its best to have the bedrooms on the second floor, and a staircase with a bend in it. If someone breaks in or is in the process of breaking in, everyone goes upstairs and one of them grabs the shotgun. Stand at the top of the stairs, load the tube full of rounds, wait for them to enter and start moving around, load a single shell in the chamber, and rock the slider. That sound is one of the most recognizable sounds in all of gunland. If, after hearing that sound, the intruders proceed up the stairs, then they are obviously hostile and you aim at the corner of the bend and the instant you see something come around that corner you pull the trigger. What this kid was the right thing. [editline]25th June 2012[/editline]
Precisely, If you can out intimidate your assailant the better. Something as big as a .454 Cassul would work, or this A WTS .50 BMG (Browning Machine gun Cartridge) Pistol
And what the fuck is that and where do I get one.

he's gonna get so much ASS
I have this feeling that this situation would have had a less traumatic outcome should the kid have been educated in what to do when you think somebody is breaking in. He acted fast and in the most directly effective way, of course, but I can't help but wonder what would have happened should he been taught what to do instead of just assuming that it is the father's responsibility to defend his household as opposed to all members of the household instead. I am in no way saying that the outcome would have been any different for the home intruder, if you break into a home you have to be fully aware that anyone residing on it has every right and disposition to protect the household itself and may use any means at his or her disposal to stop you from breaking in, or if you're already in, to take you out. I'm more concerned about a kid using a firearm he may have not be properly trained for in a situation he definitely doesn't know what to do on, so many things could have gone wrong it's surprising that they went right.

Besides, the WTS .50 BMG has a forward grip, so long as you hold it steady and strong, like the Deagle, you'll be fine. Also, fat chance any gun maker would make a gun you couldn't safely use. Like this: It uses .600 Nitro Express ammo.

I'm pretty sure that would break bones.

It can also fire these: .50 Action Express .44 Magnum .357 Magnum .440 Cor-bon .41 Magnum All hand bruisers, but not not breakers.
Good for the kid. Makes me realize how fucked I am if a murderer enters my house, all I've got is an old steak knife beside my bed to defend myself
