I'm just wondering how long it'll be before the user with the avatar of Miku bouncing provocatively (and violently) will arrive in this thread. :v:
I'm more into touhou.
here's an example of the holographic projection

man that synthesized voice is annoying
A better usage of that technology is this

This would be something I would expect more from the Jimmy Fallon show. When Tyler, the Creator performed on Letterman, he commented on how old the crowd was.
Sweet Ann > Miku
I don't want to live in an anime future
You don't wanna live with people who are either extremely hyperactive all the time or have frequent sudden mood swings that last one sentence with body language that puts Italians to shame?
And you can pretty clarly see the glass that it's projected onto, as a variant/modern usage of:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper%27s_ghost
(AKA it's not holographic at all)
It is not a pepper ghost variation.
Miku concerts are NOT done using a Pepper's Ghost effect. It's rear-screen projection onto a semi-transparent diffusive polymer surface, called a Dilad screen. If you watch the concert footage, you can see between two and five projectors behind the screen beaming Miku's image.
Dilad screens contain microscopic bubbles, which is what scatters the light. They are expensive - designed for trade show exhibits.
Still no real holograph like in SciFi films but not a cheap pepper ghost effect either.
Who else? The hero of Persona 5?
[sp]I watch the Late Show sometimes, but that got me hyped.[/sp]
I'm not a fan of the Miku music but I do want to see the reactions on the show.
Why am I getting the feeling this is going to be awkward and cringeworthy.
Why am I getting the feeling this is going to be awkward and cringeworthy.
Because even the creators know it is and admit to that by bothering to put a drummer and a guitarist on the stage.

because your not japanese that worship her?
the West and East Attitude and likes/dislikes are completely different... Some things you consider Cringeworthy, is actually people's entertainment somewhere else.

It's pretty cringey in Japan too.
Let people have their fun.

Dude, Otakus are treated even worse than nerds are here in the States. Can we drop this thing about Japan being a nerd like heaven because it is in fact, one of the most hostile places to be any bit nerdy. Its fashionable to look like a nerd, but if you show any of the traits or stereotypes of being a nerd, you're crapped all over.

Thank you! At least someone knows. I get called a fukken Otaku by my wife for playing Madden.

I'm just gonna +1 this because I know a lot of Japanese people and not a single one actually seems to like Hatsune Miku.
I think the concept is cool and some of the songs are ok, but the fanbase is...interesting at best.

Just to punt the point home.
Japan is exploding more likely to the new Twin Peaks announcement than they are about Miku comin' over here.
how long until she can appear in my room? please answer
Maybe the hero of Persona 4, but only after it hits midnight.
I don't see the appeal of this kinda stuff. The fact that people are willing to pay money to go see a fake popstar, or a hologram of 2Pac makes no sense to me.
Miku is a hologram, Tupac is a hologram, Tupac is Miku.
First it's Pharrell Williams with that weird music video, now it's this.

I had a thought like this once before and it dawned on me that I was having it while standing in line to buy a ticket to a movie so I decided to chill out about it.
So... Anime Tupac?
I'm concerned.
