God damn that song was bad. Use a better song next time.
Something tells me there probably won't be a next time cuz of that
Jesus Fucking Christ that was awkward and terrible.
What the shit tacos. There's just something really really really uncannily bad about the voice. I've never been able to get past it because of just how off it pulls some things off.
Of all the Hatsune Miku songs in the world, I too wonder which songs they're gonna use.

she sings??
there has got to be a voice actor for it, right?
there's a voice actor in a sense, someone they used to base her vocal tones on. Beyond that, the speech/singing is 100% synthesized, using a program where you basically program it like sheet music, giving notes particular syllables, duration, cadence, etc. With a little refinement can sound pretty amazing.
I still don't understand how bad it can be with some of the official music they do, the first night I played with the program I got it to speak pretty natural [engrish] using a japanese-syllable-only version. I'd expect them to have this down to a science by now. On the other hand, maybe they like emphasizing the digital aspect, because it's what the fans like or something.
to be fair, Miku is one of the more robotic-sounding vocaloids
GUMI is where it's at
Somebody knows my pain.
After looking at it some more:
pick a shitty English song just because it's in English
you can't understand her anyways because the sound quality/speakers were so fucked
the live band wasn't great (possibly due to the sound setup), plus they were way too loud and exacerbated the above problem
garbage introduction by Letterman which doesn't explain exactly what the fuck Vocaloid is to normalfags
cameramen have no idea how to handle the performance, worst angles and lighting possible just make her look normal 2D
It was a trainwreck, not even a funny one, it was probably worse than the dominos pizza.

There was so little prep done for this it seems like, it's not even funny.
Makes me wonder if they just only gave a shit about putting her name out there, rather than trying to make it appealing?
everyweaboo's favorite waifu
Cirno. At least more than Miku.
The fact that a multimillion dollar iconic figure's performance got executed so terribly astounds me.

They did such a shitty job representing what Hatsune Miku is, it only enforces existing stereotypes and also gives a bad impression of her.
[editline]9th October 2014[/editline]
People're gonna hate her for it, which is sad because half of the technical achievement is the vocaloid aspect, which isn't bad... With the exception of the song they picked.
Shit's way too weeb to captivate US audiences. It doesn't have the cross-cultural appeal of anime like Death Note, Attack on Titan, or Pokemon that has been very popular in the USA.
Which is good, cause i'd rather have it stay as nerdy weeb.

Even these kids know how much of a faggot you are if you go to a Hatsune Miku concert, and that's just how I want it to stay.
Cirno the best
I just don't get the whole cheering at an empty stage thing. I know it's a hologram, and I can't stop realizing that there is literally nothing there and I'd feel like a complete idiot for jumping around and screaming at an empty stage.

there's a real band playing the music, she's only vocals
this whole setup felt so extremely last-minute, I feel sad for the miku crew
fyi vocaloid isn't a genre and there's currently 49 different voicebanks. if you don't like jpop or miku's voice then there's a buttload of other stuff

Can a vocaloid sing death metal?
Can a vocaloid sing death metal?
there's vocaloid metal songs with death growl style vocals. utsu-p and yuyoyuppe are two artists I know of that use death metal style vocals, although they don't stick too closely to any particular genre of music.
ahahah wow
you're so cool
Anime has been mainstream for a while, people just haven't noticed it.
DBZ, Pokemon, Naruto, Attack on Titan. Anime has been subtly invading our lives one weeb at a time.
We've been blind.
Hold your waifu tight.
The end is nigh.
literally only these were ever mainstream
oh and Sailor Moon and kinda Yugioh
literally only these were ever mainstream

Naruto's kinda mainstream, it aired on Cartoon Network for a long time if I remember
plus a lot of people who don't know a lot about anime can usually name it
you're so cool
and the hitsune miku fanbase is hip as fuk
is it bad that i really want to see this in concert because i always wondered what a 15' tall anime hologram chick would look like?
and the hitsune miku fanbase is hip as fuk
Do you ever not shitpost?
Do you ever not shitpost?
because thinking or expressing how this fanbase is dumb is shitposting
feel free to go through my post history though

If you think the Hat Mike fanbase is dumb then why did you bother coming here to post about it?
i fuck the anime good hit that 2d pussy like a fukkin chainsaw but instead of trees its drawn pussy
Why is it always about sex? Can't you appreciate something without wanting to fuck it?
[editline].[/editline]
This only seems to apply with anime / cute girls. You can like WH40K without wanting to fuck the emperor, but you can't like Vocaloid without wanting to fuck Miku.
literally only these were ever mainstream

Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell? They still show Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim.
[editline]10th October 2014[/editline]
E: My dad listens to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack which still blows my mind. That show is fucking ace.
English doesn't work with vocaloids either, because from a technical standpoint it's a very complex language compared to japanese.
Comparing the Japanese structure to English word structure/diverse nature, couldn't you just write lyrics in English using only the Japanese sounds? Just have every word end in 'ん' or a vowel.

Foriegn languages work fine with vocaloids, the languages they cover are english, korean, spanish, chinese and french (and there's a few bilingual ones). It just sounds terrible when you try to make a non-english vocaloid sing in english 'cause it's like a japanese person with no understanding of english trying to sing in it :v:

probably because the emperor isn't skimpily dressed nor a permanent school girl just my guess
