It's probably a pretty silly suggestion, but... what about birds? Crows and hawks usually eat frogs. Exhibit A:
cane toads are assholes that are filled with all sorts of poisons and shit There are only a few animals in Australia that can successfully eat them without dying, and while introducing a new species could prove to be a short term solution, it can end up being a long term problem, same as cane toads were intended [editline]8th December 2014[/editline] cane toads were brought in to kill cane beetles and they were fucking shit at doing that, and now they're a huge problem
I never understood what's wrong with golfing cane toads. No one can say it's inhumane, there is no way a cane toad survives it.
I never understood what's wrong with golfing cane toads. No one can say it's inhumane, there is no way a cane toad survives it.
I've seen many a cane toad survive hard hits from a cricket bat. Even smashing it they can still survive.
Why not just get a bearded dragon, aren't they native to australia? :3
There are hundreds of different types of toads, not all of them are toxic to eat or you'd see dead cats everywhere. I used to have a cat that loved to eat toads. I also had a friend with a blue tongued skink that would eat them like candy.
That's just too bad the toads here are deadly to pets and quite poisonous, they're also a complete infestation. Absolutely vile looking and they are everywhere at night here in the subtropics. If you go for a walk you'll step on one every metre or so.
Why not just get a bearded dragon, aren't they native to australia? :3
I have a pair of Bearded Dragon and can assure you they're not where near as interesting as an inquisitive animal like a fox, a cat or a dog.
I have a pair of Bearded Dragon and can assure you they're not where near as interesting as an inquisitive animal like a fox, a cat or a dog.
lizards are way cooler than the ones you mentioned though.
Headlines of 2016: The new nation of Foxtralia
I think I rather vote a fox as PM over Tony Abbott
I think I rather vote a fox as PM over Tony Abbott
Nah, they've both got rabies and steal their neighbours' chickens
Fine, we'll deal with your pest problem, Straya. Now get rid of the Opossums faking death in my backyard every time my dog goes outside.

Gotta keep the foxes from climbing to the top of the food chain, otherwise they'll get smart and gradually take over society.
I don't know anything about Australia's ecosystems nor politics but foxes are adorable creatures and they're most definitely pets and they're awesome and we should all cuddle them
You know I think rats are cute little fuzzballs but they're still pests in the wild and it would be best to eradicate key populations.
You can still get permit to keep one as a pet, but the fact is that foxes are fucking up Australia's ecosystem really fucking hard. [editline]8th December 2014[/editline] Bring it back.
To be honest the australian ecosystem overall was in isolation for so long that most European, american or asian species are able to trash it without trying to much. Foxes, rats, bunnies, camels and multiple other things. Australia animals just aren't deadly enough.
There is exactly one race of foxes that's considered tame and they cost an arm and a leg so owning a pet fox is something you can probably tick off your wishlist. If you want a weird pet get a pet pig or something.

But you will still see stuff like territory marking naad other wild behaviours.
Wait, what did I do? I can assure you, I am perfect as a pet. Though, if they are invading the ecosystem and taking over it, I don't see any problem with this, just as long as it is dealt with in proper standards, i.e. you kill them quickly and humanly, don't let cubs starve to death etc.
His name is Pudding
wait I got caught up in all this, what's a cane toad and why are they indestructible
white people aren't native to australia yet they're eradicating the actual natives silly hypocritical humans
I don't know anything about Australia's ecosystems nor politics but foxes are adorable creatures and they're most definitely pets and they're awesome and we should all cuddle them
This kind of ignorance is what leads to people's cats, dogs, chickens, and even children being attacked by coyotes in Ontario. "Oh it's just a doggy, it's so cure, don't kill it!" meanwhile the bastards are ruining farmer's livestock and attacking their actual pets and children. Shit like this are a menace. It doesn't matter how "cute" something is when it's fucking up your child or your cat.
Australia really is tumblr heaven,
What? How?
Fennec foxes are domestic foxes that you can own in a lot of places, and they're pretty cute [thumb]http://www.cutenessoverflow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/fennec-fox-2.jpg[/thumb]

They're a small breed of desert foxes native to the Sahara.
Fennec foxes are NOT domestic foxes. They're a small breed of desert foxes native to the Sahara.
My bad, I mixed it up with the domesticated silver fox mentioned in the Fennec article. They're fine house pets and are legal to own in a tonne of places though, my province allows them as pets at least.
wait I got caught up in all this, what's a cane toad and why are they indestructible
Big ass toad. Which like a lot of toads has poisonous skin. Multiple old world or americas native animals just don't care one bit about the poison and instead know to go for the meat. Australian predators either find them too big or too poisonous.
Foxes can be domesticated, just look at the Domestic Russian Silver Fox. Although, one would have to be making some serious cash to want to buy one. Last I heard they were $4000.
wait I got caught up in all this, what's a cane toad and why are they indestructible
Ok, basically, a short history of the cane toad: Once upon a time, there were some sugar cane farmers in Queensland. Their crops were getting eaten all the time by cane beetles and there weren't any natural predators who preyed on them. So what did they do? They imported a foreign predator to get rid of them, the cane toad. Just one problem. The beetles tended to live high up the cane stalks, while the big fat toads were stuck on the ground, where they ate harmless native insects instead. And then before they could say "Well, we didn't think this one through", the cane toads had bred out of control. Here's a gif showing their spread from 1940 to 1980 (By now they've reached the most western point of the country): They then got busy preying on native insects and being eaten by native predators, killing them because they weren't used to their toxins, and just generally fucking everything up.
white people aren't native to USA yet they're eradicating the actual natives silly hypocritical humans
I can do a thing, too
