Well said
BMS Is turning into Duke Nukem Forever
Except that Duke Nukem Forever was supposedly being developed full-time by a dev studio.
Who didn't see this happening?
I am doing to total conversion in a small mod team, but at least we don't hype the fuck of it and post release dates we can't meet.
Oh, so what? You guys are making it out to be like this is some retail release that you've all put money down for pre-orders. And they missed a vague "release date" of 2009. So does every single other development studio, professional or otherwise.
Expected.. Oh well, At least it's not dead.
It has to be close to it. It's probably dying. I've seen major mods die before, and this is always the beginning signs of the mod's death. They will begin to set deadlines and every time the deadline comes around, they don't release in the name of "making a better product".
making all the maps from scatch, making the props and textures to fill the maps with, modeling, animations, recreating all the enemies for the source engine, music, sound, voice acting, bug testing, contending with real life, the list just goes on. you can't say "CROWBAR AND HEV SUIT IN THE GAME THIS THIS MOD SHOULDN'T TAKE LONG" that's just silly.
yes however, they don't have to design a story, or gameplay design, voice scripts, rendering/lighting/sound/physics engine, or anything like that.
Now I have to wait even longer for some polished deja-vu.
I'm going to enjoy my polished deja vu :smith:
the point is that they created all this hype for the mod and collected a huge fan following, they should at least respect their fans and do the best they can not to mislead them and release the fucking game when they say they will.
You guys are acting as if the BM team is obligated to please their fans. They're not. The only thing they're getting out of this mod is experience, and probably some job openings after it's released. They're not getting paid for it, they're doing it for free in their spare time. Yet you guys are still acting like ungrateful spoiled little shits.
the point is that they created all this hype for the mod and collected a huge fan following, they should at least respect their fans and do the best they can not to mislead them and release the fucking game when they say they will.
Why? They aren't getting paid for their work and they're going to release a free mod. So what if a few "fans" are PO'ed to the point they won't download the mod, tens of thousands of others will still download it. So tell me, what exactly do they owe anybody?
They shouldn't have mentioned ANY release date to begin with, you shouldn't say anything until your mod is a release candidate.
Either way, they're screwed. If they don't mention a release date, people are going to think it's vaporware.
Why? They aren't getting paid for their work and they're going to release a free mod.
they owe us at least some satisfaction on what they've told us they'd give us. just a "it's not going to be released" is enough.
If they never release the mod they would still never owe you or anybody else a thing. It's a free mod, sit back and continue waiting.
Who really cares if we need to wait. It's not like they delayed it a whole year. It will probably be out by the end of January. Stop being impatient little kids and learn that sometimes things come up.
fuck tha police
i can't believe this. i want to play half life 1 with better graphics sooooo bad, but this mod wont come out. what am i to do?
I forgot about this. Holy shit.
At this rate EP3 might get released first. EDIT: It's a Race! Who will make it to the finish line first? EP3 or BMS?
all of you ocmplaining really need to remember that this is a mod developed by people in their free time. they still have other things to do and focus on like schooling, work, life, social life. they aren't going to wake up at 6 am and code texture and map until 2 am straight.
At this rate EP3 might get released first. EDIT: It's a Race! Who will make it to the finish line first? EP3 or BMS?
My prediction: BM:S could be released in the Summer or Fall of 2010. EP3 might be released around the same time, or late-winter towards the middle of Summer of 2011.
You see, this is all part of the development. They want to capture the feel of a valve game, so they're workin' like real valve employees.
If they never release the mod they would still never owe you or anybody else a thing. It's a free mod, sit back and continue waiting.
Because if they're doing it for experience and to put on their resume, that will sure do them good. "I see you worked on Black Mesa Source. You took six years and never released it, what happened?" "Dunno. It just fell apart." "I see...We'll get back to you on that job application."
At this rate EP3 might get released first. EDIT: It's a Race! Who will make it to the finish line first? EP3 or BMS?
Duke Nukem Forever would beat them first, by a landslide.
Because if they're doing it for experience and to put on their resume, that will sure do them good. "I see you worked on Black Mesa Source. It'd be far more logical for a team that has worked 6 years on a project to release the incomplete product than to just let it be dead and lost forever. And they're probably going to release the complete game.
This.
It was in the trailer.
Yet it still says it will be released in 2009 on their homepage.
Gordon Freeman Forever. Seriously, what is taking so long with this? It's a mod, meaning the engine is already there for them to use, and they're copying a game that has already been released. Original mods are released faster than this.

With an original mod, you can do whatever the fuck you want, but with Black Mesa, people are expecting a certain product.
