Is it really a good idea to bunk them together? I realize it's a big thing to be "equal" now, but isn't there a lot of instances rape in the military? Of course, Norway could be way better at this than other countries, but something is bound to happen, no more how minor.
Are you serious? Your reasoning is to separate men and women because they might rape each-other? Whats next: Left side of the country is for women and right side for Men?
I think mandatory military service of at least a year is a great way to teach people values and standards IMO.
The only things that should be mandatory are taxes, specifically so that money can be divided up and a small amount goes towards a military budget that funds whoever volunteers to join. You can teach people these values and standards at school with the school budget. The only problem is budget cuts but they won't kill people unless it's health and education. Military budget cuts save lives on both sides, mandatory service just adds more people into a potentially hazardous job.
Considering how easy it would be to intentionally fail, it's mandatory in name only.
Well yeah. They send you a letter they year you turn 18 and ask you to fill out an online form about your health and whether you want to be in the military. I was like "no thanks" and they never contacted me again.
Are you serious? Your reasoning is to separate men and women because they might rape each-other? Don't be silly, this is about sleeping, changing and living quarters. You know, the place sexual relations usually occur. I dont know the exact conditions but saying that, for mandatory military service for all citizens, people should sleep in bunks with only their own genders. If it was volunteer i dont think it would be as important but making it compulsive draws in almost everyone... and think about the kind of people you get in "everyone".
What's keeping you out of the army? A legitimate ailment or just a terrible attitude?
case in point
Almost nobody really cares did you go or did you not go to conscription Starun V you are tad bit exaggerating things.
Almost nobody really cares did you go or did you not go to conscription Starun V you are tad bit exaggerating things.
a little but still "kutsunnat" is cancer and "elämämkoulu" is very real in some parts
Not just a little. I attended the drafting event last year and in my case it was a very mundane event. Nothing about it really reeked of cancerous propaganda, the infinitely replaying video was a tad silly but nothing to get upset over. I didn't have to watch it too many times until they called my name and directed me to some doctor, who just made sure everything is in order and gave me some papers. Then after some waiting, I sat down in front of Major Whoiswhatshisname and two other people and gave them the papers. I had no special requests or anything, so the conversation was brief. The major just told me "Well you're a grade A conscript going to Fort Sinkhole in 2017, here's some more papers, you may leave" and I left. Aside from Edgelord the Neckbeard refusing to remove his fedora when we sat down in the auditorium, the whole event was nothing unusual. The drafting event is slightly different for everybody, but so long as you don't act out of line, everything will go fine.
gross nonetheless i've heard you have to stand up for some random cunt who you have no allegiance to, sounds pretty gay lmao
I can't stress enough how accurate this is. I still can't believe how much red tape was involved with my USMC enlistment process. This girl who was biting her fingernails got disqualified under mental issues. Anyone with glasses got disqualified and had to see a specialist, just to find out that the doctors who dq'd you we're wrong. There's sort of a read between the lines mentality of when it comes to medical history, "don't motherfucking ask, don't motherfucking tell".
I think you guys are over exaggerating a bit, part of my job is medical screenings and a number of those points you mentioned aren't disqualifiable for ascension. [editline]27th August 2016[/editline]
gross nonetheless i've heard you have to stand up for some random cunt who you have no allegiance to, sounds pretty gay lmao
Well aren't you the little rebellious one. You would actually fit in well with the US Military since it seems like that's the route were going with the new generations of Sailors and Marines.
I find it always so weird how if there is anything like this is in the news mostly people from USA come around talking about rape as first thing.
It's because it's an actual issue with our mitary that literally no one wants to acknowledge or do anything about
It's because it's an actual issue with our mitary that literally no one wants to acknowledge or do anything about
This is not true
gross nonetheless i've heard you have to stand up for some random cunt who you have no allegiance to, sounds pretty gay lmao
so rebellious, problem is, once you start doing this kind of stupid shit you get punished and your entire platoon sometimes also get punished for dumb shit you've done on purpose "for the lulz". Won't be appreciated by the rest

Even if they didnt, I dont agree, especially considering this is Europe and stripping down in front of the opposite gender isnt as frowned upon as in the USA. They are all adults, they can handle it. I feel the "political correctness" and dealing in extremes in the USA, is increasing by the year. Yes saying it gets to a level where the left side of the country is mand and the right side women is silly. But I do believe an effort should be made to stop it. Or at least prevent it from blowing over to Europe. Besides this thread, the one linked below about rape, is also a good example of the cultural differences between the USA and Europe. And the USA dealing in extremes. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1531841 Almost all of the American facepunchers are bashing the judge for giving such a low sentence as rape=rape. While the Europeans try and look at the circumstances of the rape and if its really needed to destroy the guys life.

But all of those DQs I experienced first hand.
good thing i wont be conscripted?
It really is.
good thing i wont be conscripted?
In this case yep, unless your recruiter basically says nope and does conscript you when time comes. They are assholes too

I'm confused Are you guys shitting on Saturn V because he doesn't want to be forced to be in the military? How is that not a reasonable thing to be outraged over? Fuck being forced to do that.
I think they're shitting on him because hes acting like a child about it.
What's "acting like a child"? Being rightfully upset that his government is forcing him to join the fucking military? Fuck that. That's an incredibly reasonable thing to be upset over.
but isn't there a lot of instances rape in the military?
US Army, yes. [editline]28th August 2016[/editline]
Oh no its the end of the world, what an unprecedented thing in Finland. Noone has ever had to go through that before.
What are you, fucking 12? You're not affected by the issue, so you have no personal basis to argue based on, and you're sure as hell not presenting any facts.
Conscription is a shitty policy that detracts from individual freedom of choice. But if you have it, there's zero reason to not make it gender-equal. But ideally you don't have conscription at all. Make it a viable career choice and give people good benefits for joining the military and sticking with it. The US does this, and the military competes on the job market with literally any other job. But they offer competitive benefits for low-skill work - the GI bill and the VA used to be huge incentives. Less so now, but still - a voluntary military is far better than a conscripted one, because you don't have to waste time and money dealing with people uncommitted to serving and you don't interrupt anyone's personal life choices.
Interestingly, a lot of problems with the US military recruitment is that the paperwork and requirements are so strict that it has become accepted to lie your way into the service. I always say that if the Marine Corps actually kicked out all the people who shouldn't have been able to join, nobody would be in the Marine Corps. There is so much paperwork they make you do on everything. Ever even touched an inhaler? Disqualified. Ever broke a bone? Possibly disqualified, get six forms signed on it. Don't have perfect vision? Get ten forms signed on it. It's not correctable with glasses but you can still see almost fine? Disqualified. Any history of any sort of depression, anxiety, or anything of the sort? Disqualified. Ever smoked weed or any sort of drug or been prescribed most over the counter drugs? Disqualified. Drank under 21? Disqualified. Any misdemeanors? Possibly disqualified, get thirty sheets of paperwork to cover it all and see. It's to the point most recruiters have the kids joining lie on all of their paperwork and claim some outrageous shit like "I've never seen a doctor in my life but I somehow have all my vaccinations" because if they say anything else then they need to get a stack of papers all signed, noted, dated and if a single thing is wrong then those weeks of getting ready were for nothing and now you'll never get in since it's all on record. When you go to the processing station with your paperwork, they say things like, "We know your recruiter just told you to lie about anything, but tell us, we need to know," But that's just a test to make sure you're not so retarded that you can't keep your mouth shut for an hour. Honestly, we might be able to weed more people out if we lessened some of the paperwork and the pain of signing up in order to encourage actually doing the paperwork.
lying to get into the military is no new phenomenon. People have done it since Militaries have existed, and will probably continue to do so until humanity is gone.
Oh no its the end of the world, what an unprecedented thing in Finland. Noone has ever had to go through that before.
Yeah and women in Saudi Arabia get raped and subsequently murdered for being raped. They should just get over it, right? It's common there!
Yeah and women in Saudi Arabia get raped and subsequently murdered for being raped. They should just get over it, right? It's common there!
I don't think those two situations are very comparable. being raped and murdered is hardly comparable to military service. [editline]28th August 2016[/editline]
US Army, yes. [editline]28th August 2016[/editline] What are you, fucking 12?
These "values" and "standards" of military servicemen/women often clash with your average facepuncher's in conscription based militaries that attract people alligned to the right/far right wing. Conscription was useless for me. Spent 14 months of my life and i didn't improve as a person. Infact it made me worse. But i love it when USA citizens come in these threads and tell us that it's good and beneficial to get conscripted.
Boy do I love it when <X> citizen comes in here with an opinion differing from mine due to my nation being different!
